Last Saturday I asked you whether you had ever noticed how there are some things which happen in films which never ever happen in real life – today it’s time for some more examples!

top15moviesHere’s a few examples which show what I’m saying:

  1. Once applied, lipstick will never ever come off
  2. During all police investigations it will be necessary to visit a strip club at least once
  3. Getaway cars never start first go…but the police cars always do
  4. Police cars will always slide to a dramatic stop in the midst of a crime scene
  5. Any police officer about to retire will probably die on their last day…especially if their family have planned a party!
  6. Police detectives never solve a case until they have been suspended from duty
  7. If staying in a haunted house, women will always investigate any strange noises wearing their most revealing nightwear
  8. You always know when there’s going to be a murder…the music tells you!
  9. When arranging to meet someone to tell them you know who the murderer is, you arrange to meet in a graveyard!
  10. If you are heavily outnumbered in a fight involving martial arts, your opponents will wait patiently to attack you one by one by dancing around you in a threatening manner until you have defeated their predecessor

Any of these sound familiar?

Obviously these are complete generalisations because not every film follows the above rules, but I’m sure you’ll agree, you can think of a lot which do!

We all have things which annoy us, some trivial, some quite serious. So today I want to share with you some of the trivial things which annoy me…they’re listed in no particular order:

  1. People who don’t hold the door open for you even though they’ve obviously seen you
  2. People who don’t say thank you when you do something for them, or give them something
  3. People who finish the toilet roll/kitchen roll but leave the empty roll on the holder (can you guess who I’m talking about?!)
  4. People who barge in to wash their cups etc when you’re using the sink, but who don’t bother to say “excuse me” or “could I just nip in” BEFORE they lean in and start cleaning their cup, forcing you to get out of their way!
  5. People who don’t really know me but who judge me based on what they see or the little that they know about me
  6. People who butt into a conversation they weren’t part of, just to give their tuppence-worth
  7. People who leave shopping trolleys in a car parking space, rather than walking a few metres to put the trolley in one of the provided trolley parks!
  8. People who park over 2 spaces instead of 1 and therefore reduce the already limited number of available parking spaces
  9. People who go through the 9 items or less queue despite knowing they have more than 9 items in their basket
  10. People who park in disabled parking bays who don’t have a disabled badge

Do any of these annoyances sound familiar to you?

Yes, all the above things annoy me, but most of time I manage to stay quiet when they happen and just observe and say/do nothing as I know it’s just me being me!

Do you believe in God? Do you believe in the power of prayer?

If you answered yes to those questions, I’d like to ask for you support in prayer in this coming week…

My Dad suffers from vascular dementia and over the last year or two his condition has deteriorated very quickly. So much so that he is barely able to di anything for himself now. He is still living at home (at present), where my Mum cares for him 24/7.

Mum has been finding it more and more difficult to cope with Dad over the last little while and has been talking about it maybe going to be time for Dad to go into care permanently, soon.

In November last year Dad went for a weeks respite care to the same care home my aunt (my Mum’s sister) lives in full-time. Although my Dad remembered nothing of his time there, the break did do my Mum the world of good, especially as the staff at the care home were able to reassure Mum that Dad had settled in ok.

Within a few weeks of Dad’s week in respite care, the social worker had got Mum to agree to putting Dad’s name down again for another week’s respite…there’s about an 8 week waiting list!

That’s the background to my prayer request today. So here’s why I’m asking for your prayers…on Monday, Dad is going back to the same care home for another week’s respite care so Mum can get a well earned break again.

Although Mum needs the break and is looking forward to having time for her rather than caring for Dad 24/7, I know she will really miss him, and she’s not the only one, as I’ll miss him too. The social worker who is dealing with Dad told us it was better not to visit Dad while he was in the care home, just so Mum could get a complete break – Mum did of course phone then nearly every day to check that Dad was ok.

Personally, I never ever wanted Mum or Dad to have to go into a care home, however I know how much Mum is struggling to cope with looking after Dad these days, so in that sense I’m glad Dad is going for respite care on Monday. That said, even although we’ve done this before, it’s still going to be a tough day taking Dad to the care home and leaving him there for a whole week.

While Dad in respite care next week, Mum will get a good chance to relax plus do exactly what she wants to do with no time constraints. I’ve taken a few days off too, so will spend those days with Mum and maybe go for a run in the car somewhere different, just for a change.

In closing, I would therefore like to ask you to pray for Mum and Dad next week as Dad goes in for a week’s respite care – I know Mum would appreciate it too if you would pray for them.

Thank you, and God bless.  .x

We’re in His Hands,
We’re in His hands,
Whatever the future holds,
We’re in His hands.

It’s Saturday again, so I’d like to give you another word association challenge today. So as before, I’m going to throw some words at you and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

4. Diet

5. Scotland

6. Sunday school

7. Tennis

8. Baby

9. Water

10. Hairdresser

11. Cinema

12. Car

So how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you suspected?

Well here’s my responses to my Word Association questions:

1. Mmmmmmm

2. Study

3. Nightmare

4. Weight-loss

5. The independence debate

6. Childhood

7. Rafael Nadal

8. Blessings

9. Thirsty

10. Appointment

11. It’s been a while

12. Garage

Were any of your answers the same as mine? Did any of my answers confuse you? Did any of your own answers confuse you?

Do you like these Word Association games? As I’ve said in my previous word association posts, I find I get a bit stressed when I’m doing them as I put a lot of pressure on myself not to over think my answer!

I still think when we truly do respond with the first words that come into our mind, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?

As I said before, I sometimes just pick some really random words and just try this myself just to see what my answers are – I know that sounds really sad, but I often find it illuminating to discover what is occupying my subconscious…I’d urge you to try it out for yourself.

…and I think cars are great again!

Last week in The Problem With Cars… I told you how I’d been informed that my car  required £1300 worth of repairs. Having been shocked and stunned at the time, we had to have a serious think about whether we really should go ahead and get my car fixed or whether it was time to get a new car.

Well things moved quickly, and smoothly, so much so that yesterday I picked up my shiny new car!

To be honest I was sorry to see my old car go, it had served me well and I loved all the added gadgets it had. However it was time to move on, and get used to my new car.

So far so good, I’m loving my new car!

…they’re great when they’re working but a pain in your bank account when they’re not!

My car is now eight and a half years old. I’ve had it from new, and have found it a very reliable car which I’ve had very few problem with…until now.

In the last couple of weeks I’ve noticed one or two problems with it when I start it from cold, so given we’re getting into the cold of winter I thought I’d better put my car into the garage to get it checked out.

So the car was put into the garage on my way to work and by 3.30pm I’d still not heard anything from them - was this good or bad? Well it was bad, but little did I realise just how bad!

Yes there was various faults with my car, none of which had to be done today, however would need done at some point in the near future. The total cost of the repair work would be just over £1300!!!!

Wow! I was stunned, the cost of these repairs is incredible particularly when you consider how much I car is probably worth these days, despite it’s very low mileage.

So do we go ahead with the repairs? Well I told the garage not to proceed with any of the repairs just now, as none of them are causing the car to be unroadworthy. Hubby and I discussed the cost of the repairs and the age of my age and have decided now is maybe the time to start considering replacing my car, so we’ve now started looking round checking out what offers are currently available on cars, before we make a final decision on whether to repair my existing car to replace it!

Oh the joys of motoring!
