James 1:17 (Good News Bible)

Every good gift and every perfect present comes from heaven; it comes down from God, the Creator of the heavenly lights, who does not change or cause darkness by turning.

Everything good that happens to you, your friends and  your family, is because of God. God sends us gifts in the form of people, situations, opportunities, knowledge and ideas all because He loves us and will do all He can to help and guide us.

Don’t get complacent about everyday things and activities, by forgetting to say thank you to God for all He provides for us. Always remember God loves you and will do all He can to help you.

How many of you have at some point or another felt worthless and felt like a nobody? I have, and I guess some of you will too.

It’s a rotten feeling isn’t it when you feel worthless, unneeded and surplus to requirements. But there’s good news – no matter how unneeded we feel, there is one person who always considers us to be worthy of loving. So who is that person? If you’ve been reading my blog for a while or you know me personally, you probably won’t be surprised when I tell you that that person is God!

I recently read a tweet which said the following:

God has a habit of picking nobodies and making them somebodies

These words have really stuck with me since I read them, and have made me think about some of the folk I know of who you’d probably never imagine would become the amazing people they have, but because they have chosen to give their everything to God, they have become amazing people.

Just because we think we will never be somebodies, don’t ever think that means God agrees with us! in fact, I can say with confidence that God never ever considers anyone to be a nobody!

I’ve spoken a lot about blessings, but do you know what are they?

Here’s some dictionary definitions:

  • A short prayer said before or after a meal; grace.
  • Something promoting or contributing to happiness, well-being, or prosperity; a boon.
  • Approbation; approval: This plan has my blessing.
  • the act of invoking divine protection or aid
  • the bestowal of a divine gift or favour

However the best description I’ve ever heard for blessing is ”presents from God” – Isn’t that lovely? It always reminds me that the blessings we receive are always very personal. i.e. What may be a blessing to one, may not be for the person next to them, but God knows us each individually and knows our needs better than we know them ourselves.

1 Corinthians 9:22-23 (New Living Translation)

When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

So when do we receive our “presents from God”? On special occasions like our birthday, Christmas, or Easter perhaps? Well let me tell you, God can give us presents at any time! Whenever God gives you presents I can assure you that it will be at a time you need them most, and it will be the best present you could have received at that time.
