In yesterday’s blog post Talker or Listener? I spoke about how some people seems to do nothing but talk all the times, while others tend to keep in the background and just listen to all that’s going on.

Have you ever noticed how those who have a lot to say for themselves and often those who get themselves into trouble more because of what they’ve said? The following quote by Frank Tyger beautifully illustrates this:

Be a good listener. Your ears will never get you in trouble

It’s so true, isn’t it? By listening to what others have to say to us, we cannot get ourselves into trouble. We only manage that when we talk about what we’ve heard!

God needs good listeners. people that others can confide in. If you’re more of a talker than a listener, ask God today to help you be a better listener.

I’m sure we’ve all heard a number of people talking about how we should focus on other people and not on ourselves because in looking outward we minimise the significance our own problems and issues, have on our life.

To a degree I think this is right, however we can’t spend all out time looking outwards and caring for others, as we will simply run ourselves into the ground and then be of no use to anyone. I think this is particularly applicable to those who have their own health problems as it is impossible to spend all your
time caring for and helping others as their own health will suffer even more as a result.

I do believe however that we can all care in a spiritual way for others, regardless of our own physically capabilities. By praying for others we are doing the most useful thing we could possible do for them, because ultimately God is the only one who can change their situation/circumstances.

We can never (nor should we ever) completely forget or dismiss our own problems or issues, because they are very real to us – Maybe something that is a huge issue for us in our life, is a small insignificance to someone else, so please remember we are all different, we all cope with life’s events and struggles differently, and with different levels of success.

So be patient with those who struggle and moan about life, because they’re simply finding life more difficult to cope with than you are.

Pray for them!

Life is full of mountains we all have to climb and challenges we’d rather not face. However if it weren’t for those mountains and the struggles we endure trying to climb them, how would we ever build our inner strength to make us strong enough to face the next mountain.

Some mountains in life as ones we can climb with little effort, other seem unending and our progress up the mountain seems to get slower and slower as the days and weeks go by.

No matter how high or how many mountains we face in life, we must keep on believing that we can conquer these mountains – So how do we ensure we do that?

We keep believing that God is by our side at all times – He is our safety rope while we’re climbing the mountains…in fact he’s our safety rope every day of our lives regardless of whether we ascending or descending a mountain.

Keep the faith!

I can almost see it
That dream I’m dreaming but
There’s a voice inside my head sayin,
You’ll never reach it,
Every step I’m taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
Got to keep trying
Got to keep my head held high

There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I’m gonna to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb

The struggles I’m facing,
The chances I’m taking
Sometimes might knock me down but
No I’m not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I’m going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
And I,
I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on, cause

There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I’m gonna to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb

There’s always going to be another mountain
I’m always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain’t about how fast I get there,
Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side
It’s the climb

Keep on moving
Keep climbing
Keep the faith baby
It’s all about
It’s all about
The climb
Keep the faith
Keep your faith

I think sometimes we can all be guilty of thinking prayer doesn’t work simply because we don’t see any results to our prayers, or the results we see are not those we wanted. Why is it that when we pray we seem to forget that God determines to outcome to all our actions, both done or just considered?

Is it because we somehow feel we should be in control of all that happens in our life…including our prayers?

Sometimes God answers our prayers immediately, other times it can be months or years before He answers them, however He will always answer our prayers.

The other important thing we must always remember is that we may not even have realised God has answered our prayers. How can that be? Well God not only answers our prayers, He answers them in the way He considers to be best for us which of course isn’t necessarily the way we may have wanted.

No matter what we pray for, please, remember that prayer really does work if you simply give it a chance – You need to invest some time in prayer and it will produce results!

Jesus Answers Prayer by the International Staff Band of the Salvation Army:

Here’s a question for you:

What do we Christians have that is worth offering to other people?

Galatians 6:2 (English Contemporary Bible)

You obey the law of Christ when you offer each other a helping hand.

As Christians we should try to do all we can to help others – whether that be the homeless, the lonely, the abused, the starving, the broken, or indeed anyone else in need. Therefore here’s some of the qualities I would expect to find in a true Christian…how many of these can you honestly say you possess?

  • honesty
  • compassion
  • unconditional love
  • generosity
  • unselfish
  • caring

Sometimes at the end of the day, some people just need someone to listen to them and maybe give them a hug – I’m sure each of us are more than capable of doing that. However I’m sure if we could all do that each day, we could make a huge difference in so many people’s’ lives.

Job 29:11-13 (NIV)

Whoever heard me spoke well of me, and those who saw me commended me, because I rescued the poor who cried for help, and the fatherless who had none to assist him. The man who was dying blessed me; I made the widow’s heart sing.

Go on, make a difference in someone’s life today!

Two things that are infinite…mans stupidity and gods love!

So how do we get it down to only one thing that’s infinite? We pray!

It’s time for God!

But doesn’t that depend what time of day it is or even what day it is?

No it doesn’t! – God is ready and waiting for you to make time for Him at any time on any day.

So you’ve decided to make time for God, but what do you do now?

You pray, you read the bible and most importantly you listen to God talking to you. God will direct you in all you do, and will help you through times of trouble and disappointment.

Don’t ignore God today, make time for God today and every day.

The Time Is Now by Twila Paris

We close our eyes and wonder how much longer
The earth can hold the tears of all its children
We wonder what became of Eden
While we live in the garden we have grown
But there will be hope when we finally understand
We were never meant to make it on our own

The time is now
To hear the call
From the Father of creation
Comes an answer for us all
The time is here
The time for you
If you seek, then you will find Him
And the moment that you do
Seal your heart with a sacred vow
The time is now

We look ahead and try to face the future
But find we have no heart for this tomorrow
There is a vision that is brighter
And if we will believe, it’s not too late
For every decision becomes a destination
And today we face a choice that cannot wait

The time is now
To hear the call
From the Father of creation
Comes an answer for us all
The time is here
The time for you
If you seek, then you will find Him
And the moment that you do
Seal your heart with a sacred vow

Now is the time and today is the day
Now is the time and we cannot delay
This is the moment and this is the place
For the mercy, the power, the love, and the grace

The time is now
To hear the call
From the Father of creation
Comes an answer for us all
The time is here
The time for you
If you seek, then you will find Him
And the moment that you do
Seal your heart with a sacred vow
The time is now
The time is now

Now is the time and today is the day
Now is the time and we cannot delay
Now is the time….

What We Need

God doesn’t give you the people you want, He gives you the people you NEED.
To help you, to hurt you, to leave you, to love you and to make you into the person you were meant to be.

We are often guilty of asking God for what we want, rather than asking Him to give us just what we need. We must remember that God know better than anybody just who and what we need to make us into the person He wants and needs us to be.

When we pray, we must ask God to give us what we need, because that He can do, whereas if we ask Him for what we want, we will only be disappointed.

Here’s a wonderful song which means a lot to me which assures us that God is all we need… More Than Just Enough by Sara Luneack:

A Beautiful Heart

I found this story while surfing the internet today. It’s a beautiful story and one which really touched me and got me all emotional again. I hope and pray if you look at my heart you will find it in the same condition as that of the old man in this story.

Look after you heart for Jesus’ sake.

A Beautiful Heart

One day a young man was standing in the middle of the town
proclaiming that he had the most beautiful heart in the whole valley.
A large crowd gathered and they all admired his heart for it was perfect.
There was not a mark or a flaw in it.
Yes, they all agreed it truly was the most beautiful heart they had ever seen.
The young man was very proud and boasted more loudly about his beautiful heart.

Suddenly, an old man appeared at the front of the crowd and said,
“Why your heart is not nearly as beautiful as mine.”
The crowd and the young man looked at the old man’s heart.
It was beating strongly … but it was full of scars …
it had places where pieces had been removed and other pieces put in …
but they didn’t fit quite right and there were several jagged edges.
In fact … in some places there were deep gouges where whole pieces were missing.
The people stared … how can he say his heart is more beautiful … they thought?

The young man looked at the old man’s heart … and saw its state and laughed.
“You must be joking,” he said. “Compare your heart with mine …
mine is perfect and yours is a mess of scars and tears.”
“Yes” … said the old man … “yours is perfect looking but …
I would never trade with you.
You see … every scar represents a person to whom I have given my love …
I tear out a piece of my heart and give it to them …
and often they give me a piece of their heart
which fits into the empty place in my heart …
but because the pieces aren’t exact …
I have some rough edges … which I cherish …
because they remind me of the love we shared.

Sometimes I have given pieces of my heart away …
and the other person hasn’t returned a piece of his heart to me.
These are the empty gouges … giving love is taking a chance.
Although these gouges are painful …
they stay open … reminding me of the love I have for these people too …
and I hope someday they may return and fill the space I have waiting.
So now do you see what true beauty is?”

The young man stood silently with tears running down his cheeks.
He walked up to the old man … reached into his perfect young and beautiful heart …
and ripped a piece out.
He offered it to the old man with trembling hands.
The old man took his offering … placed it in his heart …
and then took a piece from his old scarred heart …
and placed it in the wound in the young man’s heart.
It fit … but not perfectly … as there were some jagged edges.
The young man looked at his heart …
not perfect anymore but more beautiful than ever …
since love from the old man’s heart flowed into his.
They embraced and walked away side by side.

The World Around Us

The last few days we’ve been having some beautiful sunny and hots days, I’ve found myself being more aware of the world around me, the beautiful flowers, trees, rivers, fields etc.

You know I see these things every day, but it’s only now when we have a few nice days I suddenly seem to have noticed it all again. How about you, do you notice the world around you each day?

Never mind whether you notice the world around you, but do you thank God each day for the world he created for you to live in? being honest, I don’t. I like many take the world around me for granted so often, and don’t really appreciate all the beautiful things God has provided in this world for me to enjoy.

Make a promise to God today, to thank Him for providing so many beautiful things for us to enjoy in this world.
