I recently came across the following quote which struck me as very apt:

A smile is the lighting system of the face, the cooling system of the head and the heating system of the heart.

They always say we use less muscles to smile than to frown, therefore let’s spread some joy by sharing a smile with everyone you see.

sunshine

Here are five things you probably didn’t know or never really thought about:Love

  1. At least five people in this world love you so much they would die for you.
  2. If not for you, someone may not be living.
  3. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.
  4.  A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don’t like you.
  5. You are special and unique.

I particularly like #5 as this reminds us of exactly how God considers us…special and unique, just the way He made us!

The happiest people don’t necessarily have the best of everything but they make the most of everything.

As I said yesterday (in Keep Smiling), smiling can be infectious as if we smile, those around us will also feel like smiling. One thing helps make it easier to smile sometimes, is when we have all we need. That doesn’t mean we have the best of everything, but we don’t need the best of everything to be happy, as happiness is a very subjective feeling and as such can often be fulfilled simply by having all we need in life. e.g. loving family, good friends, a roof over our head, food to eat, clothes to keep us warm etc..

Note: To have everything we need does not include life’s luxuries, such as a car, lots of money, all the latest gadgets, but instead it is simply life’s necessities to live.

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works so that no one can boast.

Have you been saved by God?

If not, what’s stopping you?

If so, I bet the day you got saved, was the happiest day of your life! When we get saved not only does it make us happy, it makes God happy because we are accepting God’s presence in our lives, and committing to live our life for Him.

But what makes God even happier?

When you get saved, God puts a smile on your face. When you grow up, you put a smile on God’s face.

i.e. When our faith and trust in God grows, so does what we can achieve for God, and that is what makes God smile.

We all make a fool of ourselves sometimes don’t we? Do you laugh at yourself when you do something daft or are you embarrassed and which the ground would open up and swallow you?

Personally, I’ve found myself in both situations, as I guess it depends on what you’ve done that’s so daft and who your with, how you respond. If I’m with friends or family I can probably laugh most things off, however if I’m with strangers or in a meeting I’m far more likely to simply want the ground to swallow me.

Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, no matter what we do or who we’re with, the ground never opens up and swallows us, so isn’t the best thing, just to see the funny side of the situation instead of stressing about something which is effectively now history? Easier said than done I know, but as the following saying says, at least we’ll give ourselves something to laugh about at any time!

Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused ~ Unknown

Positive or Negative?

Would you say you are a positive person? Or do you tend to focus on the negative things in life?

I’m sure you’d agree with me that it is easier to be in the company of someone who is positive and upbeat than to be in the company of someone who has nothing positive to say. It’s depressing and soul destroying to constantly be bombarded with negative comments/actions.

So what should we do if we’re surrounded by negative people?

I haven’t any definitive answers…but I do have a few suggestions – some you may find useful, others you may find are not right in your situation:

  • Smile
  • Don’t argue with the “negative person”, it will only encourage them!
  • Counteract their negatives with a positive statements
  • Distance yourself from the negative people in your life
  • Let the negatives wash over you…don’t let them soak into you and pull you down

Be positive, it’s contagious!

Smile it might never happen

How many times have we said that to someone, or someone said it to us?

But what if it has already happened, what then?

Sometimes no matter how much we try to look on the bright side of life, life throws bad things in our direction. Bad through it all, we need to put our life in God’s hands. He will keep us strong and give us the strength to smile even when things aren’t going our way.

Remember smiling is infectious, so pass a smile on to someone else today!

Blue Monday or Happy Monday?

Well how was your day? Did you find it to be The Most Depressing Day (my blog post from yesterday), or have you had a Happy Monday?

In my office today, one of the managers, before starting a conversation with anyone said “Happy Monday” to them with a big smile on his face - I have to say it was quite infectious, as it brought a smile to most peoples’ face, even if for some it was just for a few seconds!

What have you done today to make today a Happy Monday rather than a Blue Monday, for you, and for others?

If your answer is nothing, there’s still time to make someone happy!

Why not resolve to make someone smile everyday – make everyday a Happy Day!
