When you’re waiting for a bus, and get fed up waiting so start to walk away, why do two buses turn up then!

Why can you never get that last bit of toothpaste out of the tube?

When you don’t feel well and try to see a doctor you can’t get an appointment for days, but when you’ve just to go for a follow-up appointment you can get one the day you phone!

Why is it always raining or blowing a gale when I go to the hairdressers?

Why can you never find the matches when you have a power cut?

Why is threading a needle always do difficult when you’re trying to quickly sew a button back on

Why is it nearly always a song you can’t stand that gets stuck in your head all day!

Why are some people morning people and others night owls?

Why are so many of us scared of spiders and other creepy crawlies that can’t hurt us?

Why do cat always seem to know when you’ve left a nice cosy jumper lying on the bed, and then curl up and sleep on it!

We all have things which annoy us, some trivial, some quite serious. So today I want to share with you some of the trivial things which annoy me…they’re listed in no particular order:

  1. People who don’t hold the door open for you even though they’ve obviously seen you
  2. People who don’t say thank you when you do something for them, or give them something
  3. People who finish the toilet roll/kitchen roll but leave the empty roll on the holder (can you guess who I’m talking about?!)
  4. People who barge in to wash their cups etc when you’re using the sink, but who don’t bother to say “excuse me” or “could I just nip in” BEFORE they lean in and start cleaning their cup, forcing you to get out of their way!
  5. People who don’t really know me but who judge me based on what they see or the little that they know about me
  6. People who butt into a conversation they weren’t part of, just to give their tuppence-worth
  7. People who leave shopping trolleys in a car parking space, rather than walking a few metres to put the trolley in one of the provided trolley parks!
  8. People who park over 2 spaces instead of 1 and therefore reduce the already limited number of available parking spaces
  9. People who go through the 9 items or less queue despite knowing they have more than 9 items in their basket
  10. People who park in disabled parking bays who don’t have a disabled badge

Do any of these annoyances sound familiar to you?

Yes, all the above things annoy me, but most of time I manage to stay quiet when they happen and just observe and say/do nothing as I know it’s just me being me!

Last night I told you about the opening of the long awaited M74 motorway which links the existing M74 to the M8 motorway at the far side of Glasgow city centre. Today though I want to ask you what may seem like a daft and maybe pointless question, but it’s one that’s got me curious for a while but I’m sure one of you out there will be able to answer it…

When a new motorway (or extension to an existing motorway) opens, how do they go about opening the new bit of roads and all the associated on and off-ramps to the mew road at the same time?

Sorry, I know that might seem a strange question to ask, but to me, who thinks logically about all I do and all problems I face, it struck me that this kind of situation may be a bit of a logistical nightmare:

  • What if they open one on-slip road before the remaining of-ramps are open?
  • What if they are opening the junctions/on-off ramps in sequence and a motorist gets ahead of those opening the junctions?
  • What if they open the on-slip roads but haven’t opened where the new road joins the existing road?

I did think for a while that they could probably avoid a lots of these potential issues by opening the new motorway in the middle of the night when there would obviously be very little traffic. This theory was however dashed when I discovered the M74 extension was opening at 7pm last night – So how did they do it?

I’m sure there is probably a very sensible and straightforward answer to this, but hey I’m just curious how they do it!

Well got up this morning to find yet another few inches of snow had fallen overnight. So what to do…hubby had hospital appointment at the other side of Glasgow this morning so we couldn’t attempt to get to work in one car. So do I try and drive to work, see if I can get a bus to work, or admit defeat and see if I can work from home again today?

End result…

I checked the First Bus website to see if the bus I needed to catch was running and it was, so that decided me…I’d forget the car (I’d have had to dig it out first and the roads still looked really bad), and walk to the nearest bus stop and try and get a bus to work. So at 7.50am wearing several layers of clothes, I left the house and headed to the bus stop.

…and so I waited for the bus that was due every 10/15 minutes…at 8.40am the bus arrived, quite busy but I still managed to get on. I heard a number of folk comment on the bus that the trains on our local routes had been cancelled, so that explained why the bus was much busier than usual.

After a reasonable journey, I arrived at my destination safe and sound…thank you First Bus! So no second “snow day” for me :(

My observations when I arrived at my destination were that the snow there was nothing like as deep as at was at our home…no wonder we ended up having a snow day yesterday!

Throughout the day we had some very heavy snow showers followed by some very bright sunshine, so a number of us kept checking the bus and train website to ensure our buses or trains were still running.

Thankfully my bus continued to run all day so at 4.15pm I left the office and managed to get a bus home within a few minutes. Result! I was home by 5.10pm which was great, as that’s earlier than I’m usually home from work.

I will reassess tomorrow morning if and how I’m going to travel to work based on the overnight weather and the roads conditions in the morning.

I hope you all manage to stay safe and warm this winter.
