God In My Dreams?

I love the song Do you Dream of Me? which I’ve heard sung by several artists including Across the Sky and Michael W Smith. After having a look on YouTube, I’ve found a wonderful video presentation of this song being performed by Michael W Smith:

Wonderful love song about our relationship with God. So I have to ask you, do you dream about your relationship with God?

Personally I’ve found when I’m struggling with something it often find it ends up in my dreams in some form or another. I also find that afterwards when I wake up I’ve often got a new perspective on that problem…could it be God is directing me even when I’m sleeping? Of course He is!

Why wouldn’t God be part of my dreams? God it part of my life and I try daily to make Him part of all I do each day, so there’s no reason why He shouldn’t be part of my dreams too! And why shouldn’t He also use them to speak to me/direct me!

God IS amazing!

Dreaming

I’ve heard it said many times that when we sleep we always dream…so how come we often have no memory of what we’ve dreamed about?

I woke up this morning remembering exactly what I’d been dreaming about, and it seemed to have been a very long and strange dream: One of my family had died unexpectedly and we were at the Salvation Army hall in Rutherglen for the funeral service…this was particularly odd as the family member in question doesn’t even attend the Salvation Army and it’s not even the Rutherglen Salvation Army I go to anymore it’s Bellshill! The other very strange thing I remember about the dream was that the majority people who were there were folk I’ve not seen in years as they were people I grew up with at Rutherglen Salvation Army and who have left the Salvation Army!

I told you I had I strange dream last night!

Why is it some times we have dreams where we wake up frightened of something, but we’re never quite able to put our finger on what caused that fear?

A number of years ago I did read up a bit on dreams as it always fascinated me why we dream about certain things, particularly when they are about places and people that are not part of our lives anymore. As it was a number of years ago I don’t really remember much of what it said now, but it does still intrigue me the strange things we dream about when our body’s are sleeping.

Having started thinking about dreams and what they mean, I had a quick look on the internet to see what I could find – So if you’re interested in finding out a bit more about dream, checkout the Dream Moods site.

What a Week

What kind of week have you had?

My week has felt very long indeed. I was only in my office on Monday and Tuesday and then have spent the last few days visiting a number of office throughout North Lanarkshire to carry out some setup work and then train folk on how to use their new IT system.

The week started with a full day’s seminar/overview of some new software we are planning to use in the coming weeks/months, so that was quite a long day. Then on Tuesday I spent in my own office at my own desk getting on with my work. And that was when normality ended this week!

Yesterday morning I spent over 3 hours travelling to one of our offices…an journey that should have taken me about 45-50 minutes!!!  Fortunately I had less problems on my journey home as it only took me an hour.

On Wednesday after doing installs and training all day I spent the evening at one of our other offices while engineers installed some hardware – Boy was that a long day as I didn’t get home until after 9pm! I don’t think I’ve recovered from that long day yet.

Funny how the best laid plans for this week ended up totally inadequate due to unforseen circumstances – why do things like that happen, no matter how much we plan?

There’s only one person who’s plans once made, never change, and that’s God’s – He plans every breathe we take, every thought we have, every word we say and every action we take…however it’s up to us to do them. If we stray from God’s plan for our life, we will never find true happiness in our life. Put your life fully in God’s hands today, and He will bring you true happiness, forever.

Yes or No?

Some questions for you today – Please answer each question honestly by answering either YES or NO. i.e. Pass of Dont’ Know are not acceptable answers!

  1. Are you an optimistic person?
  2. Do you consider yourself to be a Christian?
  3. Do you listen to music regularly?
  4. Do you believe in God?
  5. Do you pray every day?
  6. Do you like reading books?
  7. Do consider yourself to be PC literate?
  8. Are you in love?
  9. Do you read the bible each day?
  10. Are you a Social Networking addict?

So how many questions did you answer YES to and how many did you answer NO?

I answered NO to two of the above questions and YES to the rest – but which ones do you think I answered NO to?

It may surprise you to know that I answered NO to question 5 – Do you pray every day? and also question 9 – Do you read the bible each day? Although I consider myself to be a Christian and try to do all I should, I do fail at two of the main tasks expected of me…praying and reading my bible every day.

I have no acceptable excuses for not praying or reading my bible each day as the times I fail is normally because I’m too busy doing other things that these important God focused tasks are omitted from my day. Sometimes I must admit that it’s not even a conscious decision on my part not to do these things but just what happens.

Does this sound familiar to you? I’m sure if you’re honest in your answers you may find yourself realising the same as me.

So how do I stop this happening and making sure I do give God the time He deserves in my day? Well there are a few things we can do:

Pray, ask God to help you become more God focused

Put aside a set time each day to spend with God

Find your “Quiet Place” and use that to have your time with God

I will be trying some of the above suggestions to try to help me spend time with God each day, as He wants and expects me to do. I pray you will try to do likewise. Good luck!

Ecclesiastes 3:11
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time

In His time, in His time,
He makes all thing beautiful in His time.
Lord, my life to You I bring,
May each song I have to sing,
Be to You a lovely thing, in Your time.

In Your time, in Your time,
You make all thing beautiful in Your time.
Lord, my life to You I bring,
May each song I have to sing,
Be to You a lovely thing, in Your time.

Pray For Friends

Do you pray regularly?

Do you pray for your family?

Do you pray for your friends regularly?

Your friendships will never reach their full potential unless God is part of it. What do I mean by this? Well we pray for our lives and the situations we find ourselves in, that God will help us to do the right thing in all we do – Our friendships are no different from that, we must pray for our friends and our friendship with them.

With God part of our friendships, our friendship can reach their full potential – that of course may mean some friendship may be short-term, while others will last forever through many highs and lows – but remember God knows what relationships/friendships are good for you and which aren’t, just trust God to help you find and keep “forever friends”.

Prayer For A Friend by Casting Crowns

Lord, I lift my friend to You, I’ve done all that I know to do
I lift my friend to You
Complicated circumstances have clouded his view
Lord, I lift my friend up to You

I fear that I won’t have the words that he needs to hear
I pray for Your wisdom, oh God, and a heart that’s sincere
Lord, I lift my friend up to You

Lord, I lift my friend to You
My best friend in the world, I know he means much more to You
I want so much to help him, but this is something he has to do
And Lord, I lift my friend up to You

’cause there’s a way that seems so right to him
But You know where that leads
He’s becoming a puppet of the world, too blind to see the strings
Lord, I lift my friend up to You
My friend up to You

Lord, I lift my friend to You, I’ve done all that I know to do
I lift my friend to You

Friends Forever

Friends (by Michael W Smith)

Packing up the dreams God planted
In the fertile soil of you
Can’t believe the hopes He’s granted
Means a chapter in your life is through
But we’ll keep you close as always
It won’t even seem you’ve gone
‘Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

And friends are friends forever
If the Lord’s the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
‘Cause the welcome will not end
Though it’s hard to let you go
In the Father’s hands we know
That a lifetime’s not too long to live as friends.

With the faith and love God’s given
Springing from the hope we know
We will pray the joy you’ll live in
Is the strength that now you show

But we’ll keep you close as always
It won’t even seem you’ve gone
‘Cause our hearts in big and small ways
Will keep the love that keeps us strong

And friends are friends forever
If the Lord’s the Lord of them
And a friend will not say never
‘Cause the welcome will not end
Though it’s hard to let you go
In the Father’s hands we know
That a lifetime’s not too long to live as friends.

I love this song by Michael W Smith it reminds us that our friends, although they may be important to us and we may think they will be our friends forever, will only remain true friends to us if God is part of our life and theirs. This sentiment is reflected in my favourite part of this song:

And friends are friends forever
If the Lord’s the Lord of them

Let God be part of your life and part of your friendships. He alone can help your friendship flourish and last forever.

“Portrait of a Friend”
I can’t give solutions to all of life’s problems, doubts,
or fears. But I can listen to you, and together we will
search for answers.

I can’t change your past with all its heartache and pain,
nor the future with its untold stories.
But I can be there now when you need me to care.

I can’t keep your feet from stumbling.
I can only offer my hand that you may grasp it and not fall.

Your joys, triumphs, successes, and happiness are not mine;
Yet I can share in your laughter.

Your decisions in life are not mine to make, nor to judge;
I can only support you, encourage you,
and help you when you ask.

I can’t prevent you from falling away from friendship,
                from your values, from me.
I can only pray for you, talk to you and wait for you.

I can’t give you boundaries which I have determined for you,
But I can give you the room to change, room to grow,
room to be yourself.

I can’t keep your heart from breaking and hurting,
But I can cry with you and help you pick up the pieces
and put them back in place.

I can’t tell you who you are.
I can only love you and be your friend.
    –Unknown

God’s love is unmeasurable. He loves us unquestioningly. He forgives us when we disappoint or fail Him, but He continues to love us.

…and this is what God wants us to do as well…love one another without question and without discrimination. Love everyone as your friend and neighbour.

2 Corinthians 13:11-14 (The Message)

And that’s about it, friends. Be cheerful. Keep things in good repair. Keep your spirits up. Think in harmony. Be agreeable. Do all that, and the God of love and peace will be with you for sure. Greet one another with a holy embrace. All the brothers and sisters here say hello.

The amazing grace of the Master, Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God, the intimate friendship of the Holy Spirit, be with all of you.

We Must Have Friends

You’ll have gathered from my posts this week, that I’ve been thinking about friend, both past and present. I think the conclusion is clear, friends come and go from our lives, but only one will never ever leave you…Jesus.

Circle of Friends written by Point of Grace
We were made to love and be loved
But the price this world demands
Will cost you far too much
Spent so many lonely years just tryin’ to fit in
Now I’ve found my place
In this circle of friends

In a circle of friends
We have one Father
In a circle of friends
We share this prayer
That every orphan soul will know
And all will enter in
To the shelter of this circle of friends

If you weep, I will weep with you
If you sing for joy the rest of us
Will lift our voices too
But no matter what you feel inside
There’s no need to pretend
That’s that way it is in this circle of friends

In a circle of friends
We have one Father
In a circle of friends
We share this prayer
That we’ll gather together
No matter how the highway bends
I will not lose this circle of friends

Among the nations, tribes, and tounges
We have sisters and brothers
And when we meet in Heaven
We will recognize each other
With joy so deep (joy so deep)
And love so sweet (love so sweet)
We’ll celebrate these friends
And life that never ends

In a circle of friends
We have one Father
In a circle of friends
We share this prayer
That it will not be long
Before all will enter in
To the shelter of this circle of friends

That it will not be long
Before all will enter in
To the shelter of this circle of friends

Circle of friends…

We are all human, we all want to be loved, we all want to fit in with those around us. Do you feel you “fit in” with those around you?

I must admit to often feeling like an outsider. I’ve never been a particularly outgoing person and often find it difficult to step outside my comfort zone when with folk I don’t know or who don’t know me very well. Sometimes it’s like being invisible in a crowded room. It’s unsettling and stressful when you don’t feel you fit in.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 (New International Version)

Two are better than one,
because they have a good return for their work:

 If one falls down,
his friend can help him up.
But pity the man who falls
and has no one to help him up!

As I said earlier, we all want and need to feel we “fit in” and feel loved. Let God help you build your circle of friends by letting Him surround you with love and strength to maybe go outside your “comfort zone”, and build up a circle of Christian friends.
