This last week I’ve been haunted (in the nicest possible way) by the melody and words of the song He Had To Hold To Calvary, which I posted in my blog last Friday, Good Friday, entitled Easter…He Had To Do It.

That song along with an image of Christ’s bloodied body hanging on a cross had been constantly in my mind this week. The knowledge of Christ’s death on the cross and why it happened have been things I’ve known for many years, so why am I struggling to free myself of the words of this song and the associated images this year?

Hold on – Why am I expecting to rid my mind of these images/words? Easter may just come round once a year, but the consequences of that first Easter are everlasting. I shouldn’t be trying to rid myself of these images/words, but embrace them for what they signify, after all they represent everything I believe in as a Christian – Christ died on a cross a Calvary so I could be free. So I could be free from sin and have everlasting life.

I have realised that I’m not haunted by the images/words/music from Easter, but am in fact reminding myself daily just how much God gave up for me on that very first Easter.

Just because Easter is now in the past this year, don’t forget the significance of Easter.

Here’s that video I referred to of Garry Druery singing He Had To Hold To Calvary – I hope this inspires you to always remember the true meaning of Easter:

He Had To Hold To Calvary by Garry Druery
He could have left that cross that day
To feed the hungry who were there
He could have wiped the children’s’ tears away
To show them He still cared
He could have once again reached out His hand
To give sight to the blind
He could have kissed His mother one more time

But He had to hold to Calvary
To ever hold to me
He could not free himself and set me free
He had to surrender
To win my victory
He could not save himself and save me

He could have proven to Jerusalem
That He truly was God’s son
He could have shown those who scorned Him
That He was the mighty one
He could have grieved the crown and filled the sky
With angels to set Him free
He could have walked away from Calvary

But He had to hold to Calvary
To ever hold to me
He could not free himself and set me free
He had to surrender
To win my victory
He could not save himself and save me

But He had to hold to Calvary
To ever hold to me
He could not free himself and set me free
He had to surrender
To win my victory
He could not save himself and save me
He had to surrender
To win my victory
He could not save himself
He could have walked away from Calvary
He could not save himself and save me
