If you’re not used to reading or studying the bible, it can be daunting knowing where to start, or how to plan your studying. I have therefore put together some thoughts which you may find helpful, to give you some pointers for your bible study.

Read The Bible With An Open Mind

Proverbs 3:5-7 (NIV)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.

The bible is not a story book, it’s a book of instruction on what we need to do to live the life God wants us to live. Even so we must accept that the bible is no ordinary instruction book, but one inspired by God, just so He could tell us how much He loves each one of us.

Believe What The Bible Says

John 8:32 (NKJV)
“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

The bible is not always easy to read or indeed understand, but don’t let that stop you from believing in God or in what the bible says. I’m a Christian of many years, but I still do not know or understand what God is trying to tell me in some parts of the bible. So don’t despair if you’re struggling to see God’s big picture. I believe that as our faith and knowledge of God grows, so does our understanding of His message to us. Therefore, in time I believe God will answer all our questions, all our doubts – It’s simply a matter of trusting Him to help us gain understanding of His message.

Jeremiah 29:13 (The Message)
When you come looking for me, you’ll find me. “Yes, when you get serious about finding me and want it more than anything else, I’ll make sure you won’t be disappointed.”

Do you remember how God first showed you how much He loves you?

Do you remember how God showed the world just how much He loves us all?

Here’s a nice poem which reminds us all just how much we mean to God – enjoy!

Love Revealed

I saw them hang Love on a tree.
I saw them brutalize and hurt Him badly.
I saw them slap, curse, and spit in His face.
But, Love remained Love and never did He retaliate.

Love stood as a lamb. He stood gentle, humble, and calm.
Love stayed silent, Love stayed still, even when His blood was about to be spilled.

Love did not think evil when He was wrongfully chastised.
Instead, Love expressed more love and humiliated Pride.

Why did Love do all of this for such a wretched people?
And why did He suffer such trouble?
why did Love send Love to die on a tree?
The answer is simple. Love had a deep affectionate Love for you and me.

Now before I break off, and before I end, let me reveal the name of Love, my friend.
His name is Jesus; God’s Revelation of Love to men.

Up until a few years ago, I was a regular tennis player, playing 3-4 times every week at the tennis club just behind my Mum and Dad’s house. Now, although I’ve been unable to play tennis for a few years, I’m still a big tennis fan, and keep up to date on all the latest tennis news.

So we’re now into week two of Wimbledon 2010. We’ve had a chance to watch all the main competitors play 2 or 3 matches, but who’s going to win the men’s and women’s championships this year?

Men’s Singles

I’m a huge Nadal fan, but do I think he’s going to win this year? I’d love to say yes, but prior to today’s match he seemed to be struggling in his last few matches, going to 5 sets and having to call the trainer on a couple of times . However Nadal seems to be back at his best again today, winning in 3 straight sets. So I hope Nadal is feeling well again and is just reaching his top form at just the right time to win Wimbledon again – I’d love that!

If it’s not Nadal who wins, who else is capable of winning?

Well inevitably there’s Federer, who despite struggling in his opening match (and going to 5 sets), still looks capable of winning this tournament as he definitely has the “Wimbledon Factor” having won here so many times before.

Apart from Federer, I think Soderling has looked very good in his matches, until that is today when he got taken to 5 sets against Ferrer but that may be just the kind of game he needed to get himself geared up to winning his first Wimbledon. Whether Soderling goes all the way or not, I do think he may well have a big say in who eventually wins the championship.

And what about Andy Murray? For me, he’s not good enough to win Wimbledon…yet! However as a fellow Scot, I’d love to see him win, but my heart says it’s not going to happen this year.

Women’s Singles

I think the ladies singles is a bit more clear cut, with the Williams sisters looking far better than any of the other contenders. Personally I think Serena may just edge it, but I suspect it to be close between her and Venus to lift the trophy.

My outsider for the ladies championship is Kim Clijsters, who played really well today to beat her fellow Belgian, Henin, in 3 sets.

 Now It’s Over To You…

So there you go, there’s my predictions for this year’s Wimbledon championships. Do you agree with my predictions? If not, who do you think is going to win?

A Beautiful Heart

I found this story while surfing the internet today. It’s a beautiful story and one which really touched me and got me all emotional again. I hope and pray if you look at my heart you will find it in the same condition as that of the old man in this story.

Look after you heart for Jesus’ sake.

A Beautiful Heart

One day a young man was standing in the middle of the town
proclaiming that he had the most beautiful heart in the whole valley.
A large crowd gathered and they all admired his heart for it was perfect.
There was not a mark or a flaw in it.
Yes, they all agreed it truly was the most beautiful heart they had ever seen.
The young man was very proud and boasted more loudly about his beautiful heart.

Suddenly, an old man appeared at the front of the crowd and said,
“Why your heart is not nearly as beautiful as mine.”
The crowd and the young man looked at the old man’s heart.
It was beating strongly … but it was full of scars …
it had places where pieces had been removed and other pieces put in …
but they didn’t fit quite right and there were several jagged edges.
In fact … in some places there were deep gouges where whole pieces were missing.
The people stared … how can he say his heart is more beautiful … they thought?

The young man looked at the old man’s heart … and saw its state and laughed.
“You must be joking,” he said. “Compare your heart with mine …
mine is perfect and yours is a mess of scars and tears.”
“Yes” … said the old man … “yours is perfect looking but …
I would never trade with you.
You see … every scar represents a person to whom I have given my love …
I tear out a piece of my heart and give it to them …
and often they give me a piece of their heart
which fits into the empty place in my heart …
but because the pieces aren’t exact …
I have some rough edges … which I cherish …
because they remind me of the love we shared.

Sometimes I have given pieces of my heart away …
and the other person hasn’t returned a piece of his heart to me.
These are the empty gouges … giving love is taking a chance.
Although these gouges are painful …
they stay open … reminding me of the love I have for these people too …
and I hope someday they may return and fill the space I have waiting.
So now do you see what true beauty is?”

The young man stood silently with tears running down his cheeks.
He walked up to the old man … reached into his perfect young and beautiful heart …
and ripped a piece out.
He offered it to the old man with trembling hands.
The old man took his offering … placed it in his heart …
and then took a piece from his old scarred heart …
and placed it in the wound in the young man’s heart.
It fit … but not perfectly … as there were some jagged edges.
The young man looked at his heart …
not perfect anymore but more beautiful than ever …
since love from the old man’s heart flowed into his.
They embraced and walked away side by side.

So we’re now two weeks into the World Cup 2010, and are now at the round of the last 16.

The group stages saw a number of surprise score lines, and resulted in two of the “big name” countries, France and Italy, departing the tournament at the end of the group stages. Then there were the surprises of the tournament – I’m sure we all have our own views on who they have been, but the surprises to me are New Zealand, who I know didn’t make it out the group stage, but, boy did they play well, particularly against Italy.

For me the best team so far have been Argentina. Others such as Brazil and German have had their moments, but have also looked quite suspect at times. So my prediction for world cup glory is Argentina. As a complete outsider to lift the trophy, I would go for Japan, as they have played very well and looked well organised and confident.

But who has impressed you? Who do you think looks good enough to go all the way and lift the trophy in a few weeks time?

The following video has been out together to portray Jason Upton’s song based on Psalm 23. I love this song, the message it gives us and the wonderful video that’s been thoughtfully put together to this music.

Be blessed by the words, the music and the images.

Answering Prayer

Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Do you expect God to help you? Do you expect God to make your life more bearable? Do you ask God to do these things, by praying to Him?

If not, how do you expect God to help? God can be the answer to all your prayers, but only if you pray those prayers.

Here’s a lovely little poem I came across that echoes what I’ve been saying:

Prayers Can’t Be Answered Unless They Are Prayed
Life without purpose is barren indeed
There can’t be a harvest unless you plant seed
There can’t be attainment unless there’s a goal
And man’s but a robot unless there’s a soul
If we send no ships out, no ships will come in
And unless there’s a contest, nobody can’t win
For games can’t be won unless they are played
And prayers can’t be answered unless they are prayed
So whatever is wrong with your life today
You’ll find a solution if you kneel down and pray
Not just for pleasure, enjoyment and health
Not just for honors and prestige and wealth
But pray for a purpose to make life worth giving
And pray for the joy of unselfish giving
For great is your gladness and rich your reward
When you make your life’s purpose the choice of the Lord.

Jesus The Programmer?

This is a bit daft but it does have a great message…enjoy!

Jesus and Satan have an extended argument as to who is the better computer programmer. Finally, they agree to hold a contest with God as the judge.

They set themselves before their computers and begin programming. Typing furiously for several hours, they enter lines of code streaming across the screen.

Seconds before the end of the competition, a bolt of lightning strikes, taking out the electricity. Moments later, the power is restored, and God announces that the contest has ended.

God asks Satan to show what he has done. Satan is visibly upset and cries, “I have done nothing! The power outage destroyed all of my work!”

“Very well, then,” says God, “let us see how Jesus fared.” Jesus enters a command, and the screen comes to life in vivid displays of 3-D color. The voices of an angelic choir pour forth from the speakers.

Satan is stunned and stutters, “But how?! How did he do that?!”

God chuckles, “Jesus Saves!”

Wings of Prayer

The Wings of Prayer
Just close your eyes and open your heart,
Feel your worry and cares depart.
Just yield yourself to the Father above,
Let Him hold your secure in His love.
For life on earth grows more involved
With endless problems that can’t be solved.
But, God only asked us to do our best,
Then He will take care of and finish the rest
So when you’re tired, discouraged and feeling blue,
There is always a door open for you,
That is the door to the house of prayer,
You’ll find God waiting to meet you there.
The house of prayer is not further away
Than the quiet place where you kneel to pray
For the heart is a temple when God is there,
When we place ourselves in His loving care.
He hears every prayer, and answers each one,
when we pray in His name~Thy will be done
The burdens that seemed too heavy to bear,
Are lifted away on THE WINGS OF PRAYER

Powerful prayer, but one which can be a personal prayer for every one of us, as God does hear very one of our prayers and he can lift all our burdens from us…all we have to do it lay them at His feet.

Psalm 86:1-2 (NIV)

Hear, O LORD, and answer me,
for I am poor and needy.

Guard my life, for I am devoted to you.
You are my God; save your servant
       who trusts in you.

Yesterday was Father’s Day, when we celebrated the love and affection we receive from our dad and as such I talked about my Dad in my blog post yesterday (For Dad).

But today I want to talk about our Heavenly Father, God. We do not celebrate God on any specific day of the year, although there are times such as Christmas and Easter when we as Christian, celebrate specific events in the Christian calendar. We should however celebrate God every day of the year.

God is the greatest person we could ever wish or hope to know, but do we treat Him as such? we fail Him many times during our lifetime but still he loves us and helps us. Say thank you to God our Father for His unending love for each of us, each day.

Thank you God for being my Heavenly Father.

A fabulous song and words that I know to be truth.  Do you know these words to be true too?
