Archive for February, 2012

At the start of this year, I shared with you my aims for this year (Welcome to 2012) – not my new year resolutions, but what I aim to achieve this year. Then at the End of January I gave you an update on how I was doing, so now that February is just about over, it’s time to review how I’m getting on so far, with my aims:

  • Eat healthier
    • Doing ok with this one, as I’m still eating healthier both at home and in the office – and yes I am still managing to eat between 3 and 5 bits of fruit a day just in the office
  • Lose some weight
    • Once again I was a bit apprehensive of checking my weight as I’ve simply been eating a bit healthier and getting a wee bit more exercise, rather than actually going on a diet as such. So I was pleasantly surprised when I weighted myself this morning to find I’ve lost 5 lbs!
  • Spend more time reading my bible
    • Much the same answer as last month as I am reading my bible more than I was last year, but I could definitely still do better.
  • Don’t let pain rule my life
    • On the whole February’s been a better month than January was, as managed to keep going every day – though some days were a struggle..
  • Get back to playing tennis as stopped playing in 2003 when I first wasn’t well
    • Still nowhere near ready to try to play tennis again yet, although I’m still going for about a half hour walk most days, so I’m happy with my progress with this one!
  • Put aside a minimum of 5 minutes each day to spend some quiet-time with God
    • Been managing this more in February than I did in January, but there’s still room for improvement
  • Get back to playing the piano regularly as it’s been a while
    • No progress on this one yet!
  • Go on holiday – we’ve not been away anywhere since 2002
    • Again, no progress on this one yet!
  • Keep on top of the housework (especially the ironing mountain!)
    • Definitely still not succeeding with this one,as too many other demands on me these days
  • More patience and understanding of others
    • Finding this very difficult and challenging…more prayer for patience required I think!
  • Stop procrastinating
    • More success on this one this last month than I did in January, but still lots of room for improvement

So there you go, there’s my honest answers to how I’m getting on with my aims for 2012 – I think if I had to summarise my progress to date, it would be, doing OK so far, but still room for much improvement.

How about you, are you succeeding with your aims for 2012 so far?

Whatever your aims for this year, I pray you may be making progress in your aims for 2012, and that come the end of the year you will have achieved all God had planned for you this year!

I’m forgiven, because you were forsaken
I’m accepted, you were condemned
I’m alive and well, you’re spirit is within me
Because you died and rose again

Yes our sins have been forgiven by God because Christ died for us, but have we forgiven those who sin against us?

Mark 11:24-26 (NIV)

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

How can we expect God to forgive us when we sin if we don’t forgive those who do things against us? Therefore we much be willing to forgive others who hurt us, let us down or say or do things which disappoint us, otherwise how can we ever claim to be Christ-like!

Acts 13:38-39 (NIV)

“Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through him everyone who believes is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.”

I’m forgiven, because you were forsaken
I’m accepted, you were condemned
I’m alive and well, you’re spirit is within me
Because you died and rose again

Isn’t amazing just how much God loves us? I always feel very humble whenever I think about how much God loves me. But I do admit that I don’t remind myself often enough just how much God loves me, and how much He gave us just for me and you.

Jesus paid the ultimate prise for us just so we could be forgive of our sins, and be able to lead a free life. Isn’t it only reasonable that we should try and repay God for His love for us, by doing all we can to share His love and forgiveness with others?

Have you ever stopped to think how many times each day you say, do or think something which you shouldn’t?

I’ve never actually counted myself, but I’m sure I would surprise even me how many times I fail!

How do you think God feels as we looks down on us as see us fail Him so many times?

Psalm 130:3-5 (NIV)

If you, LORD, kept a record of sins, Lord, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness, so that we can, with reverence, serve you.

I wait for the LORD, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope.

Thankfully as the above words from the bible tells us, God forgives us of all our sins, regardless of how many they may be. So all we have to believe in Him and ask Him to forgive us, and in return serve Him with all our heart.

Why is it when you sleep in, you always end up feeling more tired that day?

How come you can untangle your headphones one minute, lay them down for a second and when you pick them up again they’re all tangled again?

Why is it whenever you get your car washed, the birds attack it as soon as you leave the car wash?

When you try to do something quickly, it always ends up having to be re-done!

Why is it that some people, regardless of what they say, just wind you up the wrong way?

Why is the working week always so long, but the weekend is always over in a flash?

Why is it when you can’t sleep all you can hear is the ticking clock on the bedside table…and how loud it ticks!

Why is it when you need someone to talk too that’s always when everyone else is out or too busy to listen

Why is it that the film or book you’re most looking forward to seeing/reading always turns out to be a complete let down

When you’re in a hurry, why is everyone else on a go slow?

People come and go in our lives, some tell us they’ll always be there for us, then when things get tough they desert us. Other’s never promise us anything, but are always there when we need someone to talk to or a shoulder to cry on.

I’m sure as you’ve read my last couple of sentences, certain people in your life have come into your mind – Some maybe reminding you of some warm loving and comforting times, others maybe of a time when you’ve been deeply hurt or let down.

But as I’ve mentioned before in previous blog posts, there is one person who comes highly recommended who I can assure you will never let you down, regardless of when you need them or how often you call them…and that person is God!

God will always be there for you no matter where you are, no matter when you need Him, no matter how frequently you need Him. In other words, God will be there for you no matter what!

WIPDo you know what that means?

Work In Progress

What do you think of when you hear those words? Work, DIY, housework, homework, your life…

These last few days I’ve spoken about how God can help us Be The Person He wants us to be, so doesn’t that make us His work in progress?!

No matter what age we are when we give our heart to God, God starts working in our life to help us become more like Christ, but because we are human we fail Him so many times. But all is not futile, as God doesn’t give up on us – If we seek Him and ask for His forgiveness, He will forgive us, and no matter what God will continue to love us unconditionally.

Yes, we need to try to be more Christ-like, however, no matter how many years God is at work in our life we will always be His “work-in-progress”!

I hope you enjoy Twila Paris singing All Things Work Together which fits in well with my thoughts for today:

God loves me and cares for me in spite of all I do to hurt and disappoint Him.

Who else would do that?

It’s not that I mean to hurt or disappoint God, it’s just that when I don’t put Him at the centre of all I do, I don’t do what He wants me to do…but yet God still loves me.

Who else would do that?

I say and do things which I’m not proud of. I say and do things God disapproves of…but yet God still loves and forgives me.

Who else would do that?

It’s not just me God loves, God loves every one of us. He loves every one of us, despite our flaws.

I’m sure we’ve all said it, and I’m also sure we’ve all heard it, that “it doesn’t matter” even although we know it really does matter!

So why do we say that?

Is it to make the person we’re saying it to feel better, or not feel so bad, or is it because we want to keep the peace and not get annoyed, or is it simply because we know in the grand scheme of life that it really doesn’t matter?

Well we may say “it doesn’t matter” sometimes when it really does, but when God says He doesn’t care what we’ve done in our past, He really does mean it!

Whether our past indiscretions have been small lies, or faults, or whether they’ve been far more serious or evil, God will accept our plea for forgiveness and help. God loves each one of us, and wants each one of us to love and serve Him, and His only pre-requisite is that give Him our all…our joys, our desires, our faults, our failures, our mind, our heart, our all.

All There Is Of Me by The Three Sopranos:

The whole point of being alive is to evolve into the complete person you were intended to be. – Oprah

Yes that’s kind of true, but I believe this statement would be more applicable if it read

The whole point of being alive is to evolve into the complete person GOD intended you to be.

See the subtle difference? What we make of our life should not just be down to us, but should be down to us letting God make us the person He needs and wants us to be.

Go on, make the most of your life…let God take control!
