Is your church famous?

Nicky Gumbel stated that

The church should be famous for its love. Unconditional love breaks down barriers, puts people back on their feet, restores and heals.

Does this sound like your church?

If not, it’s down to you and everyone in your church to make your church famous instead of infamous, by breaking down barriers.

I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one. So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you  and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

So here goes…

  1. wordsDrive
  2. Village
  3. Blast
  4. Pool
  5. Bulb
  6. Fete
  7. Bike
  8. Crash
  9. Poster
  10. Garden

So how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?

Well here’s my responses to my questions:

  1. Monoblock
  2. People
  3. Deafening
  4. Cue
  5. Garden
  6. Murder
  7. Summer
  8. Fatality
  9. Advert
  10. Midges

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?

By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!

What we think we can achieve is limited by our humanity. But in God’s strength we can do all things.

Do you believe that?

It’s funny how we always seem to think we can do everything ourselves, without God’s help, and them seem surprised when we fail. Maybe one of these days we’ll learn!

Have you ever wondered what your walk looks like to others?

Would your walk look like it belongs to the Ministry of Silly Walks?

ministry of silly walks

Our walks may be different at different times depending on how we’re feeling or what shoes we’re wearing. Similarly our walk through life can have it’s funny times and it’s more difficult times. How about your walk through life with others? Are you there for others when they need you? Do you focus your attention on those who are strong and not in need of support?

walk with the broken

Look around you, and be there for those who need you.

Ever feel like there’s no way you can do something? I’m sure we’ve all felt like that sometimes, so here’s a picture to make you stop and think

you can

Don’ t ever again say you can’t do something, because if it’s meant to be, God will help you achieve anything!

Believe! Because of the cross all things are possible.

My mum often used to say, “It’s not what you know, but who you know”. For many years I never really understood what she meant by this as it didn’t seem to make sense to me.

As I grew up I began to realise the truth in my Mum’s statement, and sadly have come to realise that much of life is not about who we are as individuals, how loving, honest, trustworthy we are, but actually about who we know and who our friends are.

I can see many examples of this in my life and of those around me, and while it is common place it doesn’t make it right does it? It’s difficult and hurtful when we find it’s not what we know but who we know, and relationships that come about because of who we know, don’t really sound like relationships that will last, or ones that we should want.

Do these sound like relationships we should seek out?

who you know

Are you looking for simple ways to encourage your heart and nourish your soul?

In the last while I’ve given you some ideas which will hopefully inspire you to implement them in your own life, and over the coming weeks I’ll share some others with you.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Be your own best friend

Many times people feel dissatisfied because they don’t feel appreciated by others, which is completely understandable. Everyone needs to feel valued by others, but we must make sure our own happiness doesn’t depend on other people encouraging us, as what happens if we don’t get any encouragement? The answer is, we feel letdown and discouraged.

So rather than count on others for encouragement, take matters into your own hands, and motivate yourself as you would others – Say things like “I know this is difficult but I know I can do it,” or, “Just think, it I put a lot of effort into this now, it’s soon all be done.”

Love yourself, encourage yourself, because you can never rely on other’s being there for you when you need them.

god will

Do you believe in God, and what he can do in your life?

Everything listed above is exactly what God WILL do for you. God is there for you – simply need to turn to Him.

Are you ready to turn to God today?

Do you ever look around at others and think, they’re all moving forward/gaining experience much quicker than you?

Don’t be afraid of growing slowly; only be afraid of standing still.

So even if life seems to be moving slower for you than everyone around you, it doesn’t matter, as long as you are still moving forward.

As I mentioned yesterday (in What does home mean? #1), home for most of us is where we live. However for some, they may consider more than one place or house to be their “home”.

Confused? Let me explain – Home can be the place were we currently live, but it could also be the place where we used to live, where our parents still live, where we grew up.

home-sweet-homeThat was true for me until just a few months ago, as home for me was the place where I lived with my husband, but home was also still the place I grew up in, where my Mum still lived. Sadly my Mum passed away last year, and so we moved back to the home I had grown up in, to my Mum and Dad’s house.

It’s been strange in many ways being back “home”, with my Mum and Dad no longer there, and it now being our home. I still find myself talking about “my Mum and Dad’s house”  instead of “our house” even although we’ve been living here for a few months now, although I guess for me it’ll always be “Mum and Dad’s house” as I spent many of my childhood years here, and this was the house I left from the day I got married.

Strangely it didn’t take me very long to stop calling our flat “home” after we moved out, even though we’d lived there for all our married life. For me now though, there is just one home, and that’s both the home I grew up in and the home I’m living in once again.

What does home mean to you?
