When was the last time you heard someone boasting?

When we boast about something, we talk with excessive pride and self-satisfaction about your own (or someone close to you) achievements, possessions, or abilities.

Boasting isn’t necessarily something that is well received by the listener as it can sound like you are trying to out-do them, or make them feel inferior – both of which I’m sure you’d agree is not a good thing.

In Galatians 6:14 (The Message) we read:

For my part, I am going to boast about nothing but the Cross of our Master, Jesus Christ.

Chris Tomlin sings I Will Boast which is based on these words. Please listen to this song, and reflect on whether you boast only about Christ, and the cross.

I will boast only in the cross
Where my Savior died for me
Nothing else, no other love,
Goes so far and runs so deep
I will boast only in the cross
See His head, His hands, and feet
Scars of grace, scars that heal
He broke the curse and set me free
Only One took the nails
Only One tore the veil
Only One spotless Lamb
I will boast only in the cross
I will boast only in the cross
The Father’s love at Calvary
My sin erased, my debt He paid
This is my hope, the song I sing
This is my hope, the song I sing
Only One

Overcome

John 16:33

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

Yes, we may struggle and face great difficulties, but isn’t reassuring that because we believe in God, we have the reassurance that He will always be there for us.

God will be with us at all time, not to necessarily end our struggles and difficulties there are then, but to give us the strength to face our these problems head on, so that we can learn and grow because we have experienced them.

Spirit

“He/she has great spirit” – I’m sure we’ve all heard that said of someone. I’m never quite sure what is meant by that.

However, when it refers to our relationship with God, I do know what it means:

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. ~ 2 Timothy 1:7

So don’t be afraid of anything or anyone, because God has given us the power of love, and love can overcome anything.

Do you love God?

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. ~ Romans 8:28 (NIV)

When we give our heart and our all to Him, we prove that truly love God, and show that we believe we have been called by Him.

Do you believe you have been called to serve God?

I do! And because of that I have promised to serve God all my life. I therefore pray that God will continue to guide and direct me to do whatever He needs me to do.

Time to shop

Are you someone who likes or hates shopping?

Maybe it depends what you’re shopping for, or whether you’re shopping online or in person?

When it comes to shopping in person, I can’t say I’m a fan. I just want to get to shop find what I’m looking for as quickly as possible and get out of there! And that includes food shopping, clothes shopping and any other kind of shopping.

It’s food shopping I hate doing most. All that wandering up and down aisles, getting blocked by, or bumped by other people’s’ trolleys – I really do detest that!

When it comes to online shopping, that’s a different story – I browse from wherever, for however long I want, without worrying about whether it’s going to rain and I’ll get soaked, or whether it’s cold outside.

So for me, if I really must shop, I’d rather do it online. How about you?

Yesterday I spoke about how in life we need to experience ‘rain’ so that we can gain real life experience, as well as growing in our spiritual life. But when the ‘rain’ showers are particularly heavy and persistent, we may feel like we are drowning.

Matthew 8:28 (Living bible)

But Jesus answered, “O you men of little faith! Why are you so frightened?” Then he stood up and rebuked the wind and waves, and the storm subsided and all was calm.

As these words from Matthew’s gospel remind us, Jesus can calm the most persistent and heaviest of storms. We just need to believe he can calm our storms, because he will!

God is good, a hiding place in tough times. He recognizes and welcomes anyone looking for help, No matter how desperate the trouble. ~ Nahum 1:7 (The Message)

You’ve probably read the title of this blog post and thought I’m mad, haven’t we had more than enough rain!

Well hopefully as you read on I’ll clarify what I mean!

Look around you at the trees, flowers, plants – what do they need to flourish? Sunshine and rain.

Look at yourself, and the person you were in the past – maybe 10, 20, 30 years ago – Are you the same person today as you were then?

Speaking for myself, I can say with certainty that I am definitely a different person today than I was 10, 20 or 30 years ago. It’s not just because I’m obviously older now that I’m different, my outlook on life, on others and my relationships with others is different, and that’s because of the ‘rain‘ I’ve experienced in my life over the years.

The ‘rain’ we experience in our lives can be difficult to cope with at the time, but they are the times which build our character and give us real life experience, and therefore make us the person we are today.

So embrace the rain!

What kind of impression do you leave on other people’s lives?

Do you actually leave any impression on them, or do you wander into people’s lives, and leave again without them even noticing?

Be noticed for who you are as a Christian. If you live by Christian values you will leave a great lifelong impression on other people’s lives.

So go on leave some cheer on someone’s life today…show them some sparkle in what otherwise may be a dark time in their life.

It’s not only physical wounds that can cause great pain – Emotional hurts and wounds can be just as painful, and in some cases, can be longer lasting.

While physical wounds are often visible, the emotional ones are invisible. People walk around everyday with emotional pain that we never see, and therefore are not aware of.

To heal an emotional wound, it sometimes just takes someone to show compassion, An act of kindness towards someone can be the one thing that makes someones day, and help them put to one side, even just for a few minutes, their emotional pain.

So go on, make a kind gesture to someone today, you may just make their day!

When other people do or say things to/about you, how to you feel?

Annoyed or hurt?

I wonder why people do/say things to hurt us – I wonder if they realise how much it hurts.

I simply hope that in everything I do and say, I treat others the way I would want them to treat me.

Matthew 7-12 – Do for others what you want them to do for you. This is the teaching of the laws of Moses in a nutshell.
