I’ve been reminded a number of times over the last year that only time can heal our physical wounds. But it’s not just our physical wounds that need time to heal, our emotional wounds also need time to heal.

Time heals griefs and quarrels, for we change and are no longer the same persons. Neither the offender nor the offended are any more themselves. ~ Blaise Pascal

As time passes, our memory of events can change because of how they made, and still make us feel. We don’t mean to do this, it’s just one of those things that happens in our subconscious as time passes.

Time really heal both our physical and emotional wounds. So whatever quarrels or griefs or quarrels  you’re struggling with today, be assured that over time the wounds they have left you with will heal.

As I sat in the car at a set of traffic lights on my way home from work one day this past week, I watched at lots of leaves getting blown off the surrounding trees and flutter down to the ground. It reminded me of a picture I’d seen on Twitter earlier in the week.

It made me realise that we could all learn a thing or two from trees at this time of year.

So if you’re holding onto things which you should have let go, be a tree, and let go all those hurts and emotions you’re feeling by taking them all to God and leaving them with Him. You will feel such a weight has been lifted from your life when you let go and let God.

I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one – This time with a theme ‘Animals’! I’m sure we all have our favourite animals, or ones we’re not so keen on, so as today I’ll throw the names of some animals at you, and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read the name of that animal.

So here goes…

  1. Cat
  2. Elephant
  3. Hamister
  4. Tiger
  5. Dog
  6. Horse
  7. Parrot
  8. Spider
  9. Gazelle
  10. Fish

wordsSo how did you get on with those animals? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?

Well here’s my responses to my questions:

  1. Favourite
  2. Water
  3. Small
  4. Bouncy
  5. Walk
  6. Nothing
  7. Talk
  8. Hate
  9. Safari
  10. Food

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?

By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!

Time to do what?

Do you feel like time flies past of does every second seem to tick by so very slowly?

I guess the answer to both these questions depends on many factors, here’s some examples

  • whether you’re at school, or college, working or retired
  • whether you have lots to keep you busy all day, maybe even too many things
  • if you’re looking forward to something in the near future, the time always seems to go very slowly
  • if you’re facing something you’re not looking forward to, that time comes so very quickly

Time is strong isn’t it, as you can be sitting beside the same person for a whole day doing the same job, but they might think the day has flown by, but you feel it has dragged.

Whether your day and week have flown by or dragged, I hope you made time for God each day.

It’s time

Sometimes there are things that you just know it’s time you need to do them.

How about your faith? Is it time to remind yourself that God can provided everything you need, when you need it?

If your faith has faltered or you’ve found yourself relying on your own strength rather than trusting God, it’s time to rekindle your faith. God is ready and waiting for you to let Him take control of your life again.

It is time to want more of God and less of ourselves.
It is time to have faith that we can’t contain.
It is time to let faith and the Giver of faith control our lives.

Because God has answers to all of our questions.
Because Jesus have the words of eternal life.
Because the Holy Spirit empowers us for abundant living.

Gracious God,
You are everything we need.
Be praised forever and ever.
You are holy.
Be praised forever and ever.
You bless us richly.
Be praised forever and ever.
You love us dearly.
Be praised forever and ever.
Set a fire deep in our soul.
Be praised forever and ever.
We want more of you.
Be praised forever and ever.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen

We all get fed up with things at times – work, friends, neighbours, family, our ill-health etc. And sometimes we even get fed up with God when He doesn’t answer our prayers when we want, or in the way we want.

Could it be in those situations, that we have lost our faith and trust in God?

Maybe it’s then that we need to re-energise ourselves and our faith, and the the best way to do that is to pray to God and ask him to help reignite our love for Him.

Please don’t let your love for God die when you go through difficult times, when you think God doesn’t care about you. Instead trust God because He does care about you and will never leave you. We must trust God, and never give up on Him, because will never give up on us, even when we our faith falters.

Don’t let our love grow cold
‘Cause I’m calling out
Light the fire again
Don’t let our vision die
I’m calling out
Light the fire again

You know my heart, my deeds
I’m calling out
Light the fire again
I need your discipline
I’m calling out

Light the fire again

I am here to buy gold
Refined in the fire, naked and poor
Wretched and blind I come
Clothe me in white
So I won’t be ashamed
Lord, light the fire again

What type of person are you?

  1. Are you the kind of person who gets up hours before you have to be anywhere just so you can take things at a leisurely pace without needing to rush?
  2. Or are you the kind of person who has everything planned so you have just enough time to get up get ready, and get to wherever you need to be?
  3. Or are you the person who puts the alarm on snooze one too many times in the morning, so you end up rushing around trying to get yourself ready so you can just about make it to wherever you’re meant to be?

Whichever person you are, did you stop for just a few minutes to pray? If we want God to be part of every minute of our lives, we must start the day by asking God to be with us and guide us through each day, whatever that may bring.

Keith and Kristyn Getty have a song called Before You I Kneel (A Worker’s Prayer), which I find is a great prayer to use at the start of each day. Why not use this yourself to start each day?

In yesterday’s blog post (New world), I spoke about how God has our future under control, because He’s already planned our future.

But how to reach that new world, that future place? If we trust God, he will direct and guide us along the path he has planned for us. As we follow God’s plan for our lives, we need to share God’s message of love and hope for tomorrow, with those we come into contact with. If we each do that, more people will hear and see God’s message in action, and hopefully feel God’s presence in their lives. The more who accept God as Lord, the better place this world will become.

So help God make this world a new and better world to live in, by sharing your story, and sharing your faith with others.

I’ve found myself using the phrase, ‘In the new world’, quite frequently in the last few weeks. There’s a lot of change going on in life just now so trying to accept and prepare for how things may be in the future, hence my ‘in the new world’ phrase, can be difficult.

That’s why I’m very grateful for God’s presence in my life in these days. As although life ‘In the new world’ and what that may mean for me, is still very uncertain, I do feel reassured that God has my future under control, because I know he has already planned my future.

If we trust in God, whatever our ‘new world’ or future holds, we can be assured that we are in His hands.

This was shared a few times on Facebook in the past, but to me, it’s still good. I hope you enjoy it!

C, E-flat, and G go into a bar. The bartender says, “Sorry, but we don’t serve minors.” So E-flat leaves, and C and G have an open fifth between them.

After a few drinks, the fifth is diminished, and G is out flat. F comes in and tries to augment the situation, but is not sharp enough.

D comes in and heads for the bathroom, saying, “Excuse me; I’ll just be a second.” Then A comes in, but the bartender is not convinced that this relative of C is not a minor.

Then the bartender notices B-flat hiding at the end of the bar and says, “Get out! You’re the seventh minor I’ve found in this bar tonight.”

E-flat comes back the next night in a three-piece suit with nicely shined shoes. The bartender says, “You’re looking sharp tonight. Come on in, this could be a major development.” Sure enough, E-flat soon takes off his suit and everything else, and is au natural.

Eventually C sobers up and realizes in horror that he’s under a rest. C is brought to trial, found guilty of contributing to the diminution of a minor, and is sentenced to 10 years of D.S. without Coda at an upscale correctional facility.
