If you’d asked me a few years ago, I would’ve told you that the loss of a loved one is the most difficult thing in the world to cope with. I would also have told you that although I still think of them daily, the overwhelming grief I felt initially, is becoming more controllable as time passed. I would however never have imagined that even after a number of years have passed, I still find myself being overcome with grief and emotion, for what seems like no reason, all because something reminded of a a conversation or event with the person I was grieving for.
Grief is a very strange thing, one minute we’re smiling as we remember some daft thing that we said or did together, the next our tears are failing as we feel empty because of the loss of someone we loved dearly.
As I once said to someone close to me, “Be reassured though that we all feel like this, but more importantly our loved one is now in a better place, at peace, and with God.”
If you are grieving for someone, don’t let anyone tell you that you need to move on, and stop grieving for them. After all, we’re all individuals, and we all grieve in different ways, and all take different amounts of time to learn to live with our grief. While some may tell you you will get over your grief, I would strongly disagree with that – Instead I would say, as time passes you will learn to live with your grief.
Yes, it will always hurt when you think about the loved one who has passed away, but the good news is, it will get easier to cope with because you will learn to live with your grief. Remember your loved one with fondness, and with love, but always remember they are now free from pain and illness, and are in a better place, with God.
