Many of us have an irrational fear of something.

  • Spiders
  • Flying
  • Open spaces
  • Sailing
  • Losing control of your emotions
  • A particular animal such as cat or dog

When we get scared of something we often try to hide away so we don’t have to face our fears. What about if we feel God isn’t there for us anymore, are we embarrassed or frightened to bring those feelings to God? That’s an irrational fear isn’t it, as God will always welcome us to Him, no matter what we’ve said or how we feel, He simply wants us to remember He always loves us.

We’re not alone, even when we feel everyone, including God has deserted us, because God loves us and will never leave us.

You are not alone
There’s a place where fear
Has to face the God you know
One more day
He will make a way
Let Him show you how
You can lay this down
‘Cause you’re not alone

Take all your fears to God, even if that fear is that God has deserted you. He will find a way to calm your fears no matter what they may be.

How many times have we heard this from a supplier?

Of course none of the code we write ever has features 🙂

As many of you will be aware I’ve been off work on sick leave for a number of weeks. As I’ve been unable to do very much I’ve found myself watching TV programmes which I wouldn’t normally watch. What I’ve noticed though in the last two or three weeks is that the focus of the adverts in between programmes has changed – Not only it is now adverts about Christmas, Black Friday deals and bargains but nearly every second advert is one highlighting either people or animals in need of our help by giving a donation to their charity.

While I understand that charities need the public to donate to them so they can continue their work, but really, does there need to be quite so many of these adverts on all day, it really is very depressing. Please don’t think I don’t care about these charities, as that’s not the case – it’s depressing for two reasons:

  • No matter how much I may want to give to each and every charity, there’s no way I can support them all, but they all have an uncanny way of making me feel guilty if I don’t donate!
  • The adverts highlight just how much need there is in this world, and how many awful people there are who are cruel or abusive to people and animals.

Each of these adverts show shocking images of children, adults and animals who’ve been abused or neglected – All designed to pull at our heart-strings and persuade us to donate to their cause. How I wish this world was a better place where no one is abused, homeless, alone, or hungry.

So while these charity adverts are a hard watch, and make me feel guilty, it does remind me of all those who are far less fortunate than I am.

If each of us could give what we can to the charities/causes that we feel are most in need of our help, we can make a difference, and help make this world a better place.

What a great reminder!

I guess we can often take for granted all God has provided for us. After all it’s not just nature, the sun and rain, or the animals God has provided for us – He’s given us everything we own, everything we eat and drink, as well as our family and friendships.

Let’s not take everything God provides for us, for granted, after all how much joy do all these things provide us with!

Watching

Ever feel like you’re being watched?

When we used to have a cat I used to get that feeling quite often – Our cat used to sit in places where he could see you, though sometimes it wasn’t obvious, and he’s watch or stare at you!

You could be in bed and get that eerie feeling someone was watching you, only to find the cat was sitting on the chest of drawers staring! It was a bit disconcerting but also quite funny how he could sit there for ages just staring…and often purring too.

So our cat used to watch us, but there is someone always watches over us, and looks out for us…God.

It may seem at times that God isn’t with us but that is far from the truth, as he has promised to be with us always, and he is, even when it doesn’t seem like it.

We live in a world where many are obsessed by how they look or what they have, trying to look or be like someone else, because their life looks more appealing than their own.

As this quote by Malcolm Forbes says, it’s as if we forget to value ourselves, and who we really are and what we have actually achieved in our life.

It may seem as if our life doesn’t amount to much at times, particularly when we compare it to what others have achieved, but it’s our life, and so we should be proud of ourselves, and value ourselves!

Just ask the animals, and they will teach you. Ask the birds of the sky, and they will tell you. Speak to the earth, and it will instruct you. Let the fish in the sea speak to you. For they all know that my disaster has come from the hand of the LordFor the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being. ~ Job 12:7-10 (NLT)

God created all the beautiful things around us.

Man created all the horror around us.

I pray today that we will each do our best to remind man of God’s love for them, so that our fellow men and women will look after, not just the world around them but, one another.

Spring?

Is it spring yet?

I don’t know about you but I’m getting really fed up with one week it being mild and time for a lighter weight jacket. But hen the next week temperatures struggle to get above zero, and we have frost, ice and snow. <sigh> I hate having to scrape the car every morning.

It feels as if winter this year, is lasting much longer than usual, and that is not good.

One thing however that has improved in the last few weeks, is the number of daylight hours we’re getting each day. If there is one thing that really gets me down during winter is getting up in the dark, going to work in the dark, and then coming home from work in the dark – I think it just makes the working day seem even longer which definitely isn’t good!

So just to brighten my day, and hopefully yours too, here are some nice spring pictures. Hopefully we’ll witness these kinds of pictures ourselves for real in the next few weeks.

I recently caught the end of the tv programme Room 101. In this programme the panel are given a category. They then have to discuss their pet hate in that category and persuade the host to put their pet hate into Room 101, a location whose name is inspired by the torture room in George Orwell’s novel Nineteen Eighty-Four – In that Room 101 was said to contain “the worst thing in the world”.

I thought it might be interesting to come up with some categories and see what things we’d want put into Room 101. So I’ll give a category and then tell you what I’d want put into Room 101, and my reasons why. What I’d like you to then do is tell me whether I’ve convinced you that my items should be accepted into Room 101.

Category 1 – cars

My pet hate: People who park in disabled spaces when they don’t have a blue badge

Reason: I think it’s obvious, as they deprive those who have a blue badge utilising the spaces allocated to them. I once heard someone who was not authorised to park in a disabled space, says when they were confronted about it, that they weren’t well so should have a disabled space. My response to them is, if you think you merit a blue badge, apply for one! You’ll soon find out then whether you are entitled to one or not.

Category 2 – animals

My pet hate: People who don’t pick up their dog’s poo

Reason: It’s ridiculous how you have to watch where you’re walking on some streets these days, because if you don’t you’re likely to step in dog poo. In fact a few week’s ago when I went out our gate I found, right in the middle of the entrance, dog poo! It’s bad enough that we have to watch where we’re stepping to avoid stepping in dog poo, but imagine families walking along the street with young child, as they can run and fall. It’s disgusting and a health hazard when dog poo is left lying about. I just don’t understand why some dog owners think it’s ok to let their dog’s do their business anywhere, particularly if they have no intention of clearing up after their dog. I wonder how they’d feel if someone else left dog poo right outside their gate!

Category 3 – travel

My pet hate: People who drive along in the middle or outside lanes of the motorway when there’s no traffic in the inside lane(s).

Reason: If you’re driving along the motorway and find you’re moving quicker than the cars in the outer lanes, you have to move out either to a lane outside the car going faster than you (if they’re in the middle lane), or move out behind the car in the outer lane. Even then you can find that the car moving slower in the outside lane, will still continue to drive along in the outside lane oblivious of the quicker cars behind them wanting past. If you’re not overtaking anyone, move over to the leftmost lane of the motorway, and let those who want to drive faster, a clear drive to pass you, as you’re causing a hazard sitting in a water lane driving slowly.

So there you go, there’s my three pet hates in these categories. Let me know which, if any, of my pet hates you would confine to Room 101.

I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one. So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you, and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

So here goes…

  1. Lunch
  2. Notebook
  3. Agenda
  4. Pouch
  5. Stand
  6. Frame
  7. Thermometer
  8. Rice
  9. Duck
  10. Castlewords

So how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?

Well here’s my responses to my questions:

  1. Ladies
  2. Design
  3. Plan
  4. Music
  5. Sore feet
  6. Photo
  7. Heating
  8. Chinese
  9. Swim
  10. Capital

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?

By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!
