I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one. So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you, and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

So here goes…

  1. Burglar
  2. Random
  3. Patrol
  4. District
  5. Rose
  6. Irn Bru
  7. Heater
  8. Book
  9. Shopping
  10. Punctuation

wordsSo how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?

Well here’s my responses to my questions:

  1. Police
  2. Sweets
  3. Snow
  4. Area
  5. Red
  6. Original
  7. Winter
  8. Kindle
  9. Amazon
  10. Check

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?

By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!

When you build something some scratch, whether it be decorating a room, building a wall, writing a book, a computer program or something else, you feel pride in what you’ve built, and probably a little bit protective of it as well.

Likewise, when it’s something we’ve built, we are the ones who know better than anyone else how it was built and how it actually works.

Similarly, when it comes to us, the person who created us, God, knows us far better than anyone else – He knows what makes us happy; He knows what upsets us; He knows what worries us as well as knowing our talents; He knows every little thing about us.

Because God knows us inside out, doesn’t it make sense that we turn to Him for help and guidance, just as we would turn to an instruction manual when we have a problem building something.

Is there a manual?

How many times have you been trying to install or fix something, fail miserably and resort to trying to find the official user manual in a cupboard or on-line?

I guess though, depending on the supplier, or the maker, the quality of the manual may vary meaning you don’t always find the user manual very helpful. I know that’s certainly been my experience.

When it comes to life, we could do with a manual on how to get the best out of it, couldn’t we? The good news is there is a manual, and it was expertly written on behalf of the creator of life and all things, God.

The difference with this manual is that it shouldn’t just be a manual we turn to when we’re in difficultly, it’s a manual we should live by each day. So read your bible daily, and you’ll be setup for life!

That’s a great quote isn’t it! It’s true though, we can learn the most about ourselves when we’re going through difficult times. It’s also the time when we can feel furthest from God, even though He’s still there right beside us.

God is with us always, and no matter how dark life may get, He can help us rebuild our lives. It’s when we get through those tough times that we often realise that it was really God who got us through those dark days.

God rebuilds lives, and He can help you rebuild your’s today.

Do you read the bible?

Do you understand what the bible is teaching you?

There’s no point reading the bible like we would read a book, because the bible isn’t just about the words on the page, it’s about the message we can receive from God through the bible.

Thursday 2nd March was world book day 2017. IF I’m honest, when I first hear it was world book day I didn’t really know what that meant, but once I found out more I realised this was such a great idea to try to get kids interested in books and reading more.

world-book-day

So what is world book day?

World book day was designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of authors, books and reading, and is marked in over 100 countries all over the world.

2017 is the 20th year there’s been a World Book Day. In the UK the main aim of world book day is to “encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own”.

As part of this schools and nurseries that registered for world book day were sent packs of Book Tokens and age-ranged World Book Day Resource Packs which contained ideas, activities and display material about how to get involved in World Book Day.

The children then take their voucher to a local bookseller and can use it to pick one of a new and exclusive book free, or they can get £1 off any book or audio book costing.

When I was in the car on Thursday they were interviewing someone from World Book Day, and was saddened to hear that from many children World Book Day was the only way they actually got a book of their own.

Reading and access to books should be a standard part of every kid’s childhood. After all if they don’t grow up reading and loving books, how will they ever get into reading?

So well done to all schools and nurseries that took part in this year’s World Book Day, I hope once again it got kids closer to the books and authors they already love, and let them discover more books and authors they’ll love every bit as much in the future.

Are you a book lover – either real books or kindle?

Reading is something that can amongst other things, educate us, entertain us and inspire us. So those who can’t read or are not interested in reading books will surely be missing out on something special and inspirational.

Maybe that’s why I love this quote from Mark Twain:

The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who can’t read them

Are you looking for simple ways to encourage your heart and nourish your soul?

In the last while I’ve given you some ideas which will hopefully inspire you to implement them in your own life, and over the coming weeks I’ll share some others with you.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Write

Someone once told me that there is a writer in all of us, and if I’m honest I really didn’t believe them because after all, how could I write a book! It turned out that they didn’t actually mean every one of us could write a book or a novel, but maybe we could all write a blog, a short story, lyrics for a song etc.

So today I want you to think about what you could write? Are you the type of person who finds it easier to communicate in writing rather than verbally or face to face? Perhaps you’ve already had some thoughts about “if you wrote a book or a blog or poetry, it would contain…”.

So what’s stopping you writing? You’ll never know whether others want to hear (read) what you have to say if you never write your thoughts down. Something you have to say may just touch one person and inspire them, and wouldn’t that make your writing worthwhile? So write your thoughts because in doing so you’ll get a sense of achievement in actually getting your thoughts down on paper (even if it is electronic paper!) and that in turn will brighten your day.

I must admit I always feel a bit guilty about the fact that I am not very good at remembering verses from scripture or where to find specific verses. However in my defence I’m not very good at remembering things in general, and that’s why as those of you who know me will know, I write down everything I have to do, otherwise I know I will forget!

I’m not quite sure why I feel guilty because I can’t remember verses of scripture, other than from a young age I always thought those who could quote verse after verse of scripture were very holy and Christian. Now thinking about that, I realise that was a rather naïve, as being a Christian isn’t about being able to quote scripture is it!
