I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one. So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you, and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

So here goes…

  1. Burglar
  2. Random
  3. Patrol
  4. District
  5. Rose
  6. Irn Bru
  7. Heater
  8. Book
  9. Shopping
  10. Punctuation

wordsSo how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?

Well here’s my responses to my questions:

  1. Police
  2. Sweets
  3. Snow
  4. Area
  5. Red
  6. Original
  7. Winter
  8. Kindle
  9. Amazon
  10. Check

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?

By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!

Counting

I wonder on a daily basis, how many things we count. For example

  • Minutes until going home time!
  • Potatoes to boil for the dinner
  • Can of juice in the fridge
  • Miles until you reach your destination
  • Steps to enter a building
  • Flowers blooming in your garden

Did you notice there was something missing from my list of suggestions – God wasn’t included in any of my suggestions.

I may not have included God in my list of suggestions, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing about God we should count each day. Do you count the number of blessings you receive from God each day?

It may be that when you first think about how many blessings you’ve received from God today you think there will be very few. But I guarantee when you actually sit down and think about it God’s blessings  will far outnumber all those other things I’ve suggested, and many of them will be things that we normally just take for granted.

I thank God today for the countless blessings he gives to me each day.

I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one. So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you, and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

So here goes…

  1. Mug
  2. Hospital
  3. School
  4. Music
  5. Rose
  6. Paper
  7. Milk
  8. Jump
  9. Smart
  10. Bagwords

So how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?

Well here’s my responses to my questions:

  1. Coffee
  2. Sick
  3. Exam
  4. Emotion
  5. Love
  6. Book
  7. Shake
  8. Blue
  9. Watch
  10. Laptop

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!

Just ask the animals, and they will teach you. Ask the birds of the sky, and they will tell you. Speak to the earth, and it will instruct you. Let the fish in the sea speak to you. For they all know that my disaster has come from the hand of the LordFor the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being. ~ Job 12:7-10 (NLT)

God created all the beautiful things around us.

Man created all the horror around us.

I pray today that we will each do our best to remind man of God’s love for them, so that our fellow men and women will look after, not just the world around them but, one another.

Around us

In the last few weeks we’ve enjoyed some really beautiful weather in the UK. During that time I’ve found myself being very aware of the world around, the beautiful flowers, trees, rivers, fields etc. I know those things are there everyday, but somehow I for one, have taken then for granted. It’s only now with all this lovely weather that I have suddenly noticed it all again.

How about you, do you notice the world around you each day?

Whether you notice the world around you each day or not, do you thank God for the world he created for us to live in? If I’m honest, I don’t – I take the beautiful things God has provided in this world for me to enjoy, for granted so often.

So please join me today in promising to thank God each day for providing so many beautiful things around us.

Spring?

Is it spring yet?

I don’t know about you but I’m getting really fed up with one week it being mild and time for a lighter weight jacket. But hen the next week temperatures struggle to get above zero, and we have frost, ice and snow. <sigh> I hate having to scrape the car every morning.

It feels as if winter this year, is lasting much longer than usual, and that is not good.

One thing however that has improved in the last few weeks, is the number of daylight hours we’re getting each day. If there is one thing that really gets me down during winter is getting up in the dark, going to work in the dark, and then coming home from work in the dark – I think it just makes the working day seem even longer which definitely isn’t good!

So just to brighten my day, and hopefully yours too, here are some nice spring pictures. Hopefully we’ll witness these kinds of pictures ourselves for real in the next few weeks.

I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one. So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you, and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

So here goes…

  1. Breakfast
  2. Relationship
  3. Plant
  4. Box
  5. Slipper
  6. Box
  7. Vinyl
  8. Teapot
  9. Condemn
  10. Graphitewords

So how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?

Well here’s my responses to my questions:

  1. Cereal
  2. Friend
  3. Seed
  4. Delivery
  5. Winter
  6. Tick tock
  7. 78
  8. Yorkshire
  9. Fire
  10. Racket

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?

By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!

You’ve probably read the title of this blog post and thought I’m mad, haven’t we had more than enough rain!

Well hopefully as you read on I’ll clarify what I mean!

Look around you at the trees, flowers, plants – what do they need to flourish? Sunshine and rain.

Look at yourself, and the person you were in the past – maybe 10, 20, 30 years ago – Are you the same person today as you were then?

Speaking for myself, I can say with certainty that I am definitely a different person today than I was 10, 20 or 30 years ago. It’s not just because I’m obviously older now that I’m different, my outlook on life, on others and my relationships with others is different, and that’s because of the ‘rain‘ I’ve experienced in my life over the years.

The ‘rain’ we experience in our lives can be difficult to cope with at the time, but they are the times which build our character and give us real life experience, and therefore make us the person we are today.

So embrace the rain!

Confused

The weather recently have been very changeable: cold, windy, frosty and then cloudy or wet but mild. I noticed earlier today that some of the pants in our garden are starting to flower even although it’s still only February.

I suspect this milder weather has caused the flowers to think it’s spring time so time to flower. Let’s just hope the weather doesn’t get too cold again or they are all going to be killed off by frost.

I like springtime, as it’s a sign of new beginnings as we see our gardens coming to life again as the flowers and plants start to grow and flower again. It’s also a reminder that summer shouldn’t be too far away, woohoo!

Are you looking for simple ways to encourage your heart and nourish your soul?

In the last while I’ve given you some ideas which will hopefully inspire you to implement them in your own life, and over the coming weeks I’ll share some others with you.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Keep things in perspective

When we’re going through something, we can be guilty of blowing it up out of all proportion. e.g. You completely overreact because your taxi is 5 minutes late arriving to take you to an important meeting.

To help get these small things in life into perspective, I find I simply need to remind myself of the big picture by looking around me at this wonderful universe that God has gifted to us – The moon and the stars; the mountains and the valleys; the flowers and trees; the rivers and the streams; the birds and the animals…

When I look around at all these gifts, it reminds me how small and inconsequential I am, and then I realise again, how privileged I am to be part of such a magnificent universe. My “problems” suddenly seem more like challenges, areas I’ll need to work extra hard at, and so seem achievable.

All putting today’s problems into perspective.
