As I sat in the car at a set of traffic lights on my way home from work one day this past week, I watched at lots of leaves getting blown off the surrounding trees and flutter down to the ground. It reminded me of a picture I’d seen on Twitter earlier in the week.

It made me realise that we could all learn a thing or two from trees at this time of year.

So if you’re holding onto things which you should have let go, be a tree, and let go all those hurts and emotions you’re feeling by taking them all to God and leaving them with Him. You will feel such a weight has been lifted from your life when you let go and let God.

In everything

When you look around you, what do you see?

Do you see a world full of despair and brokenness, or do you see the wonder of nature and people who are valuable who can change the world?

When God is at the centre of our lives, God is part of everything in our life and then we will see the beauty in everything, and the best in everyone.

That’s the kind of view of the world I want, how about you?

What a great reminder!

I guess we can often take for granted all God has provided for us. After all it’s not just nature, the sun and rain, or the animals God has provided for us – He’s given us everything we own, everything we eat and drink, as well as our family and friendships.

Let’s not take everything God provides for us, for granted, after all how much joy do all these things provide us with!

Just ask the animals, and they will teach you. Ask the birds of the sky, and they will tell you. Speak to the earth, and it will instruct you. Let the fish in the sea speak to you. For they all know that my disaster has come from the hand of the LordFor the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being. ~ Job 12:7-10 (NLT)

God created all the beautiful things around us.

Man created all the horror around us.

I pray today that we will each do our best to remind man of God’s love for them, so that our fellow men and women will look after, not just the world around them but, one another.

Around us

In the last few weeks we’ve enjoyed some really beautiful weather in the UK. During that time I’ve found myself being very aware of the world around, the beautiful flowers, trees, rivers, fields etc. I know those things are there everyday, but somehow I for one, have taken then for granted. It’s only now with all this lovely weather that I have suddenly noticed it all again.

How about you, do you notice the world around you each day?

Whether you notice the world around you each day or not, do you thank God for the world he created for us to live in? If I’m honest, I don’t – I take the beautiful things God has provided in this world for me to enjoy, for granted so often.

So please join me today in promising to thank God each day for providing so many beautiful things around us.

Is it spring yet?

I don’t know about you but I’m getting really fed up with one week it being mild and time for a lighter weight jacket. But hen the next week temperatures struggle to get above zero, and we have frost, ice and snow. <sigh> I hate having to scrape the car every morning.

It feels as if winter this year, is lasting much longer than usual, and that is not good.

One thing however that has improved in the last few weeks, is the number of daylight hours we’re getting each day. If there is one thing that really gets me down during winter is getting up in the dark, going to work in the dark, and then coming home from work in the dark – I think it just makes the working day seem even longer which definitely isn’t good!

So just to brighten my day, and hopefully yours too, here are some nice spring pictures. Hopefully we’ll witness these kinds of pictures ourselves for real in the next few weeks.

When you think of a waterfall, what do you think of:

  • Water falling down a mountainside?
  • A never-ending stream of water falling down to a lower river?
  • Standing beside a waterfall get wet from the spray?
  • No matter what you do to try to stop the waterfall the water still finds a route downward

God’s love is a bit like a waterfall, as it falls down on us from above, and is unending. Even when we try to ignore God, or turn away from Him, He always finds a way to reach out to us.

So when you think of God’s love, think of it falling down onto you, just as water falls to the ground from a waterfall.

Autumn is coming…actually it may already be here.

Already darker in the morning.

As for night time, the light’s on long before eight.

All around us nature is changing colour to show us autumn is well on its way.

As the night’s draw in, it’ll soon be time to turn the clocks back an hour.

And then it really will be autumn – the days will be shorter, the nights will be longer.

And we’ll be wondering what kind of winter we’re going to get.

A winter of storms, freezing temperatures and snow or just a cold winter with a few snow flurries.

As we can prepare for autumn and the onset of winter, we must remember that while we may be ready, many will find winter difficult as they struggle to keep warm and find enough food to eat.

All of us can do our bit to help those who will find winter difficult. All we have to do is offer them help.

Harvest is a time when we thank God for all the things that He provides for us. We give food and produce to our church to help those in our community who are in need.

But is there more to harvest than this?

Yes, it’s about ‘harvesting souls’ for Christ as well. In other words, it’s a time for us to bring others into a knowledge and understanding of God’s love.

Galatians 6:9
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Join me in praying today that God might use each of us to plant a seed in someone’s heart so that they might come to know God as their friend and saviour.

We often complain about how busy we all are, and how quickly we all go through each day. However one benefit of living in these times is our unlimited access to information – Mind you sometimes we hear information that we wish we didn’t, such as terror attacks, murders, natural disasters etc.

With access to so much information, there are always ways for us to expand our knowledge. Whether it’s gait a subject, topic or hobby that you are interested in, learning new things can help you improve your enthusiasm for life while still improving your own skills and knowledge.

So keep learning, and keep growing!
