Are you looking for simple ways to encourage your heart and nourish your soul?

In the last while I’ve given you some ideas which will hopefully inspire you to implement them in your own life, and over the coming weeks I’ll share some others with you.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Turn off your TV

Controversial?

I know TV can be a huge part of many people’s lives these days, but I think we can get too caught up in Tv shows – drama, reality shows, sitcoms, soaps – but is it healthy for you or your relationship with your family?

Why now choose a day where no-one in your family turns on your TV one day. i.e. Have a TV free day, so that you and your family can spend some quality time together, talking to one another and more importantly listening to one another.

When it comes to relaxation time, what do you do?

Do you watch some tv or movies?

ScrubsFor me I, if I’m at home relaxing, I like to watch either comedy/sitcom or crime/mystery programmes. As far as comedies are concerned, there’s a lot of things I like, but some of my all time favourites include:

  • Outnumbered
  • Friends
  • Scrubs
  • Gary Tank Commander

rizzoli and islesWhen it comes to crime/mystery programmes, I have some favourites, some British crime programmes and some American ones:

  • Dalziel and Pascoe
  • Taggart
  • Midsomer Murders
  • Rizzoli and Isles
  • Castle
  • Hawaii Five O (the new series)

Do you see what each of the above crime/mystery programmes have in common? While they are all good crime/mystery programmes they each have an element of comedy to them, usually in the way some of the characters interact with one another, and that’s what makes these programmes a stand out from some of the others that I’ve seen.

So  it seems that comedy is my preference as not only do I like watching comedies or sitcoms, but I like crime or mysteries with a little bit of humour too.
