Are you looking for simple ways to encourage your heart and nourish your soul?

In the last while I’ve given you some ideas which will hopefully inspire you to implement them in your own life, and over the coming weeks I’ll share some others with you.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Be proud of yourself

We can all be our own worst enemy at times, putting ourselves and our achievements down just because they don’t measure up to what we wanted.

However in order to encourage ourselves, we must stopping being our own worst enemy, and be proud of what we actually have achieved, whether it be school exams, losing 20 pounds, getting everything on your to-do list done – You must be satisfied with yourself and be proud of your achievements.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Have a clear out

When a say have a clear out, I mean have a look through your wardrobe and take out anything that you’ve not worn for over 6 months. If you’ve not worn it in that amount of time, are you really going to wear it again?

I’m sure we’ve all got things in our wardrobe that we’ve kept because once we “lose a bit of weight” it’ll fit us again. But let’s be realistic, how long was it since it last fitted you? Are you really going to ever fit in it again?

Once you’ve been through your wardrobe and taken out the things you’ve not worn for a while, bag then up and take them to your local charity shop. Not only will you help the charity shop, but clearing out will help you feel you’ve achieved something worthwhile.

In the last while I’ve given you some ideas which will hopefully inspire you to implement them in your own life, and over the coming weeks I’ll share some others with you.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Don’t procrastinate, prioritise

I don’t know about you, but when I’m stressed, got too many things to do or my mind in on other things, I never seem to get anything done, because I procrastinate! Then when I don’t get anything done, I get more stressed and so I get myself into a vicious circle of stressing and under achieving.

So no matter whether you’re feeling on top of the world or you feel as if you have the world on your shoulders, focus on the tasks you have to do, prioritise them and then tackle each task in the order you’ve prioritised them. You’ll be surprised how much you achieve!

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Write down everything you need to remember to do

We lead such busy live these days that it can be difficult to remember every task that we need to do. If we inadvertently forget to do an important task it could cause us, or others upset, or embarrassment. So to help us remember to do every task we need to do, I suggest you write every task down and tick them off as you complete them, that way you will hopefully complete every task successfully within required timescales, and thus brighten your day.

Do you have specific tasks that are on your to-do list each day? Should you have?

I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one. So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you  and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

So here goes…

  1. wordsFare
  2. Disney
  3. Diet
  4. Jewellery
  5. Heater
  6. Water
  7. Healing
  8. Cross
  9. Bag
  10. Risk

So how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?

Well here’s my responses to my questions:

  1. Day-ticket
  2. Tigger
  3. Weight
  4. Cross
  5. Ceramic
  6. Healthy
  7. Hospital
  8. Christ
  9. Shopping
  10. Debt

Were any of your answers the same as mine? Did any of my answers confuse you? Did any of your own answers confuse you?

I’ve said in previous word association posts that I find I get a bit stressed when I’m doing them as I put a lot of pressure on myself not to over think my answers! Are you relaxed when you do them or do you find it stressful too?

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?

By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Do some volunteer work

You may think volunteer work is not for you, but I’d encourage you to give it a go. Whether you volunteer at the local animal shelter or nursing home, the satisfaction you get will be well worth the time you put into it, you’ll feel rewarded and encouraged too as you will be making a difference in someone else’s life at the same time.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Take time to let people know you appreciate what they do for you

We all get caught up in life at times, and can sometimes be guilty of taking our friends and family for granted. So today brighten your day by recognising all the things, big and small that others do for you, and tell those people how grateful you are. In thanking others for what they do for you, not only will your day be brightened, but hopefully their day too!

Cheer someone up

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Do something to help the homeless

Have you noticed how it lifts your spirits and ultimately your day, when you say or do something to help someone else? So today, brighten your day by helping someone less fortunate than yourself, a homeless person.

Do you often see the same homeless person in the street?

How many times have you walked or driven right past a homeless person?

homeless (2)

So when you next see a homeless person, stop and do something to help them – whether it’s money or a hot meal you offer them, I’m sure the homeless person will appreciate you taking the time to help them. A word of warning however, if you give them money, be aware that while they may appreciate this more, it is possibly because they will spend that money on drugs or alcohol.

If you can do anything there and then for the homeless person, have a rummage around in your house when you get home, and find items which you can give the homeless person which may be of use to them. e.g, blankets, clothes,  shoes. Remember that many homeless folk have pets so if you can, take them some pet food as well for their animal companion.

Go on, make someone’s day, and brighten your day, by helping someone who is homeless!

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Promote optimism

Life always seems better when you focus on the positive things rather than seeing only the negative. So to that end whenever you find yourself focusing on the negative things around you, stop yourself, and try to see some positives in the situation. I totally understand that that can be much easier said than done in many circumstances, however, there is always a positive to every negative situations, so look hard and look deep and you will find the positive.

When  you are positive or optimistic about situations you feel better and that in turn definitely brightens your day.

Think positive

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Compliment others

you know how good it makes you feel when others notice the and acknowledge the things you do, especially when you’ve put a lot of thought and effort into it. So do the same for others and compliment them.

A word of warning though, do not highlight or point out things the person may not want noticed. e.g. Don’t compliment weigh loss if the person has lost weight due to ill-health or a miscarriage. Only compliment things that you know it’s safe to compliment someone on, such as saying “great work” or “good job” as those kind of statements aren’t likely to offend.

So cheer your day, by lifting some else’s spirits by complimenting them.
