Relationship_with_GodNow we’re nearly at the end of 2013, I want you to think about 2013 from a spiritual perspective. So to get started, I have a few questions for you to consider:

  • Have you prayed regularly this year?
  • Have you listened to what God has to say to you this year?
  • Have you said “yes” to all God has wanted you to do this year?
  • When times of difficulty have come along this year, did you turn to God immediately for help, or wait until he was a last resort?
  • Have you done your best to tell others about Jesus?
  • Has God been at the centre of all you’ve done in 2013?

If you’ve answered “Yes” to all of the above questions, well done, as it sounds at though you’re doing the best you can to be a good example of Christ to those you encounter.

Sadly, I think many of us will, if we’re being honest with ourselves and with God, will have answered either “No” or “Sometimes” to at least one of the above questions. Thankfully though, we still have time to change so that we can honestly answer “Yes” to all the above questions, all we need to do is trust God to help us in every part of our life, not just the parts we’re choose to let Him into.

So as the end of 2013 draws near, draw closer to God, and let Him into every part of your life.

You’re all I want
You’re all I’ve ever needed
You’re all I want
Help me know you are near

Following on from yesterday’s blog post, Mary’s Story, I want you to consider a little bit more how Mary felt when God asked her to give birth to His Son.

This time however instead of focusing on how her faith in God, I want to think about the woman called Mary, who must have been scared and frightened. She must have worried how Joseph would feel about her news and how her friends would treat her as in those days, being an unmarried mother was considered to bring disgrace to the family.

This whole side of Mary, just like yesterday, confirms just how strong Mary’s belief and trust in God was. She didn’t hesitate in agreeing to God’s wishes, despite the reservations she must have been feeling.

So again today I challenge you to be a brave and trusting as Mary, and accept God’s directions for your life. God knows what is best for your life, and He knows better than anyone what you are capable of, so don’t hesitate to say to God today, Mary didn’t all those years ago!

The only person you should try and be better than, is the person you were yesterday ~ Nicky Gumbel

So many people spend their time trying to be better than their neighbour, their work colleagues, or their friends, when if God is at the centre of their life, we should simply be trying, as the above quote states, to be better than ourselves.

After all, the only person we should be trying to emulate is Christ, as no-one here on earth comes close to the person Christ is.

So make your today, better than your yesterday, and your tomorrow better than your today.

I don’t know about you, but sometime a particular piece of music or a song has the power to bring me to my knees, simply because they bring me so very close to God.

The song Your Grace Still Amazes Me is one of those songs, and after hearing it last weekend at the Salvation Army UK Congress, it’s been in my head ever since…

God’s love still amazes me.

Every day I screw up by saying or doing things I shouldn’t do, but still God loves me, and forgives me.

God’s love still amazes me.

Every day I do my own things instead of doing what God wants me to do, but still God loves me, and forgives me.

God’s love still amazes me.

I hope God’s love still amazes you each day.

clockEver find that you are too busy to spend some quiet time with God?

Why do we not have time for God?

Could it be because we’re too busy doing our own thing rather than doing what God wants us to do? Could it be we make so much “noise” doing our own thing that we can’t hear God talking to us?

Our friends wouldn’t be too happy if we always expected them to be there for us, but we were never there for them in return. God is no different in that He wants us to spend time with Him, listening to Him, just as we expect Him to be there for us when we need Him.

So don’t be too busy to talk to God, and more importantly, don’t be so busy that you stop listening to what God is saying to you.

If Jesus came back to earth today, would you be ready?

If Jesus came to rapture his followers today, would you be ready?

We spend so much of our time these days rushing about from place to place trying to ensure we meet deadlines,  arrive at meetings in time and get all the essential household tasks done. Do we actually spend so much time rushing about doing what we think is important, that we actually fail to prepare ourselves for the most important meeting of our lives…our meeting with God?

Make sure you put aside time to spend with God, because you don’t want to leave it so long that you’re too late.

Jane Peterson once said:

Many believers are “rabbit hole” Christians. In the morning they pop out of their safe Christian homes, hold their breath at work, scurry home to their families and then off to their Bible studies, and finally end the day praying for the unbelievers they safely avoided all day.

Does the above describe you?

I hope not! God needs and wants us to be Christians 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, not just a few minutes each day jammed in at the start and end of our day.

Become a Christian…Believe as a Christian…Live as a Christian.

Do you think you are too old to serve God?

The world may consider it ok to throw away all your experience when you get to a certain age, but God never does!

In God’s kingdom there is no such thing as retirement, therefore God wants and expects us to continue working for Him all our lives. i.e. No matter our age there are still ways in which we can serve God.

So don’t stop serving God, just because you think your too old to be of use to Him.

I Am a Soldier
Author unknown
I am a soldier in the army of God.
The Lord Jesus Christ is my Commanding Officer.
The Holy Bible is my code of conduct.
Faith, Prayer, and the Word are my weapons of Warfare.
I have been taught by the Holy Spirit, trained by experience, tried by adversity, and tested by fire.
I am a volunteer in this army, and I am enlisted for eternity.
I will either retire in this Army or die in this Army;
but, I will not get out, sell out, be talked out, or pushed out.
I am faithful, reliable, capable, and dependable.
If my God needs me, I am there.
I am a soldier. I am not a baby.
I do not need to be pampered, petted, primed up,
pumped up, picked up, or pepped up.
I am a soldier. No one has to call me, remind me, write me, visit me, entice me, or lure me.
I am a soldier. I am not a wimp.
I am in place, saluting my King, obeying His orders,
praising His name, and building His kingdom!
No one has to send me flowers, gifts, food, cards, candy, or give me hand-outs.
I do not need to be cuddled, cradled, cared for, or catered to.
I am committed. I cannot have my feelings hurt bad enough to turn me around.
I cannot be discouraged enough to turn me aside.
I cannot lose enough to cause me to quit.
When Jesus called me into this Army, I had nothing.
If I end up with nothing, I will still come out even. I will win.
My God will supply all my needs. I am more than a conqueror.
I will always triumph. I can do all things through Christ.
Devils cannot defeat me. People cannot disillusion me.
Weather cannot weary me. Sickness cannot stop me.
Battles cannot beat me. Money cannot buy me.
Governments cannot silence me, and hell cannot handle me!
I am a soldier.
Even death cannot destroy me.
For when my Commander calls me from this battlefield,
He will promote me to a captain.
I am a soldier, in the Army, I’m marching, claiming victory.
I will not give up. I will not turn around. I am a soldier, marching Heaven bound.

There are four kinds of soldiers in God’s army:

  1. Active Duty: Serving the Lord faithfully, daily, and on duty 24-7-365.
  2. Reserve Status: Serving only when called upon, or twice a year: Christmas and Easter.
  3. Guard Status: Backing up the Active Duty group.
  4. AWOL – Absent With Out the Lord.

Which kind of soldier are you?

Behind me is infinite power, before me is endless possibility, around me is boundless opportunity ~ Author Unknown

I don’t know who said the above, or even if they had any religious beliefs, however when I read this, I couldn’t help but think that for these statements to be true there must be a firm foundation in something…God!

God is almighty, and has the power and strength to support us in ever situation.

God’s plan for our life means we have unimaginable possibilities of what we will achieve in our life.

God provides many situations in our life for us to choose His path and follow Him.

Ultimately however, the choice is ours, to follow God and accept all He offers us, or go our own way and face lots of uncertainly. I know what my choice is…God!
