Some things in life just aren’t important in the grand scheme of things and over these last few days, I’ve been reminded again how important it is to make sure the things that are important to you stay top od your priority list.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog post (in It Might Be New Year But…) that this year, 2013, hasn’t been the best for me so far. I think it’s for the reasons listed in that blog post, that I’ve reminded myself several times this year already, that I shouldn’t get too bogged down in things that in the grand scheme of things, really aren’t important.

Sometimes I think we’re all guilty of paying too much attention to what others think of us, how much (or how little) we enjoy certain activities, and of course the one that cripples us all at times, timescales and deadlines!

reality-checkHere are some things to consider – I’d suggest you consider the order you would currently put these tasks, review that order, and then place them in the priority you would rally want these items to be in your life:

  • Work – including overtime, timescales, deadlines
  • Children – looking after them and sending quality time with them
  • Religion – attend meetings and gatherings, spend “you-time” with God
  • Learning – enhancing your skills so you can go further in your employment
  • Possessions – constantly the wanting to be one of the first with the best items available
  • Family – care and provide for them and look after them when they are ill
  • Relax – spend quality time relaxing and recharging with friends/family or by yourself
  • “You time” – spend time yourself doing whatever you want

I’m sure even at a quick look we can all put these items in a current priority order. But are you happy with that order?

Some of the things in the above list are not essential to achieve all you can achieve, therefore why not remove those unneeded tasks and focus only on those which will help you achieve what God wants you to achieve.

Why not make this year a year to concentrate on the important things in life and not get bogged down in trivial things, but lets keep God at the centre of all we do and out family and friends next. SO keep focused on what’s important in your life and don’t get distracted by other things.

Welcome New Year 2013

Welcome to 2013! I hope it’s a guid’un for you and yours.

I’m quite pleased to see the back of 2012, as just like 2011, it wasn’t the best year for me or my family.

So what about 2013, what am I hoping to achieve this year?

The main thing I’m hoping for this new year is that all my family and friends have a much healthier 2013 than 2012, but I guess I’m not going to be the only person hoping for better health for family/friends!

Other than that, like last year I’m not going to make any new year resolutions as I always think they’re doomed to fail. Instead I’m just going to set myself some goals/aim for my year. This time though, based on how I found measuring my aims last year, I’m setting less goals this time and making them more prescriptive.

So here’s my list of goals/aims for 2013, in no particular order:

  • Lose another 11lbs
  • Spend 5 minutes praying every morning
  • Think before I speak! – It’s not so much what I say sometimes that’s the problem, but how I say it!
  • Play tennis at least once by Easter, and at least 10 times by end of August
  • Challenge myself to look at old things in a new way, and new things with an open mind

Come the end of 2013, I wonder how many of these goals I’ll be able to say, “yes I’ve achieved that”, only the next 363 days will tell!

Whatever your aims for 2013, or your new year’s resolutions, I pray your year may be one in which you experience God‘s love for you, your friends and your family… whatever 2013 may have in store for you.

Have a great 2013! God bless.

I recently received this in an email and I liked it so much I wanted to share it with you…

ALthough things are not perfect

Because of trials or pain

Continue in thanksgiving

Do not begin to blame

Even when the times are hard

Fierce winds are bound to blow

God is forever able

Hold on to what you know

Imagine life without His love

Joy would cease to be

Keep thanking Him for all the things

Love imparts to thee

Move out of “Camp Complaining”

No weapon that is known

On earth can yield the power

Praise can do alone

Quit looking at the future

Redeem the time at hand

Start every day with worship

To “thank” is a command

Until we see Him coming

Victorious in the sky

We’ll run the race with gratitude

Xalting God most high

Yes, there’ll be good times & yes some will be bad, but…

Zion waits in glory…where no one is ever sad!

At the start of this year, I shared with you my aims for this year (Welcome to 2012) – not my new year resolutions, but what I aim to achieve this year. Then at the End of January I gave you an update on how I was doing, so now that February is just about over, it’s time to review how I’m getting on so far, with my aims:

  • Eat healthier
    • Doing ok with this one, as I’m still eating healthier both at home and in the office – and yes I am still managing to eat between 3 and 5 bits of fruit a day just in the office
  • Lose some weight
    • Once again I was a bit apprehensive of checking my weight as I’ve simply been eating a bit healthier and getting a wee bit more exercise, rather than actually going on a diet as such. So I was pleasantly surprised when I weighted myself this morning to find I’ve lost 5 lbs!
  • Spend more time reading my bible
    • Much the same answer as last month as I am reading my bible more than I was last year, but I could definitely still do better.
  • Don’t let pain rule my life
    • On the whole February’s been a better month than January was, as managed to keep going every day – though some days were a struggle..
  • Get back to playing tennis as stopped playing in 2003 when I first wasn’t well
    • Still nowhere near ready to try to play tennis again yet, although I’m still going for about a half hour walk most days, so I’m happy with my progress with this one!
  • Put aside a minimum of 5 minutes each day to spend some quiet-time with God
    • Been managing this more in February than I did in January, but there’s still room for improvement
  • Get back to playing the piano regularly as it’s been a while
    • No progress on this one yet!
  • Go on holiday – we’ve not been away anywhere since 2002
    • Again, no progress on this one yet!
  • Keep on top of the housework (especially the ironing mountain!)
    • Definitely still not succeeding with this one,as too many other demands on me these days
  • More patience and understanding of others
    • Finding this very difficult and challenging…more prayer for patience required I think!
  • Stop procrastinating
    • More success on this one this last month than I did in January, but still lots of room for improvement

So there you go, there’s my honest answers to how I’m getting on with my aims for 2012 – I think if I had to summarise my progress to date, it would be, doing OK so far, but still room for much improvement.

How about you, are you succeeding with your aims for 2012 so far?

Whatever your aims for this year, I pray you may be making progress in your aims for 2012, and that come the end of the year you will have achieved all God had planned for you this year!

At the start of this year, I shared with you my aims for this year (Welcome to 2012) – not my new year resolutions, but what I aim to achieve this year. So now that January is over I thought it time to review how I’m getting on (or not!) with my aims, so here goes:

  • Eat healthier
    • Doing not to bad with this one, as I’ve been eating healthier both at home and in the office – I’ve only be drinking tea, coffee or water at work and I’ve been eating 3 or 4 bit of fruit in the office every day too
  • Lose some weight
    • I was a bit apprehensive of checking my weight as I’ve not really been on a diet, but simply eating a bit healthier and getting a wee bit more exercise. So I was pleasantly surprised when I weighted myself this morning to find I’ve lost 5 lbs!
  • Spend more time reading my bible
    • Have been reading my bible more than I had been, but I definitely could still do better!
  • Don’t let pain rule my life
    • This has been a struggle quite a few times, but I’ve only given into it twice…and that was at during a weekend, so all in all I’m happy with that.
  • Get back to playing tennis as stopped playing in 2003 when I first wasn’t well
    • Nowhere near ready to try to play tennis again yet, although I have been getting a bit more exercise every day, as I’ve been for about a half hour walk almost every day this year so far, so again, I’m happy with my progress with this one!
  • Put aside a minimum of 5 minutes each day to spend some quiet-time with God
    • I’ve managed this some days, but could definitely do better
  • Get back to playing the piano regularly as it’s been a while
    • My first complete failure so far as not been anywhere near a piano this year…yet
  • Go on holiday – we’ve not been away anywhere since 2002
    • Another failure. Although it’s a bit early in the year to say I’ve failed at this one, especially as this relies on how my husband’s health is as well as my own
  • Keep on top of the housework (especially the ironing mountain!)
    • Fail!
  • More patience and understanding of others
    • I’m trying my best, though it’s still a huge struggle sometimes…more prayer for patience required I think!
  • Stop procrastinating
    • Didn’t start off the year very well with this one, although I think there’s been a small improvement in the last week or so

Welcome to 2012! I hope it’s a guid’un for you and yours.

Personally I’m quite pleased to see the back of 2011, as it wasn’t the best year for me or my family.

So what about 2012, what am I hoping to achieve this year?

I say “what am I hoping to achieve this year” rather than what are my resolutions” because personally I think whenever we use the phrase “new year’s resolutions“, they are doomed to failure before we’ve even finished making them up!

As 2011 wasn’t the best year for me, some of my aims for this new year will hopefully help me to make this year a better one for me and my family. So here’s my list of aims for 2012, in no particular order:

  • Eat healthier
  • Lose some weight
  • Spend more time reading my bible
  • Don’t let pain rule my life
  • Get back to playing tennis as stopped playing in 2003 when I first wasn’t well
  • Put aside a minimum of 5 minutes each day to spend some quiet-time with God

  • More patience and understanding of others
  • Stop procrastinating

Come the end od 2012, I wonder how many of these aims I’ll be able to say, “yes I’ve achieved this”, only the next 364 days will tell!

Whatever your aims for 2012, or your new year’s resolutions, I pray your year may be one in which you experience God’s love for you and your friends and family, whatever 2012 may hold for you.

Have a great 2012! God bless.

I’m one of the lucky ones who’s been fortunate to have enough holidays left to be able to use up the last of my annual leave for this year between Christmas and New Year and then the 3 days after New Year. It’s great it means that after being at work on Friday 23rd December I’m not back at work until Monday 9th January next year!

So far, after Christmas I’ve had a pyjama day, a housework day and a housework and shopping day! Which was my favourite? Definitely my pyjama day!

I love having pajama days, not that I get them very often at all these days, so on Boxing Day I thoroughly enjoyed my pyjama day, especially as I’d got new fleecy pyjamas in my office Secret Santa and they are soooo cosy.

When I was younger I never liked having a lazy day, I used to feel as if I was being really unproductive if I wasn’t busy doing something every day. But my views have definitely changed, because I love lazy days…maybe it’s just because I get very little opportunity to have a “lazy day” these days that makes them so desirable!

When you have a day of doing nothing, do you feel relaxed or unproductive?

Whether your busy all the time or find time to have a pyjama day, I hope you are able to get some time to relax, chill and recharge your batteries this festive season.

How have you celebrated this Valentine’s Day?

For me it’s been much like any other day –  hubby was working, I’m still off work so went to visit my aunt and then spent some time with my Mum and Dad, before coming home in time to spend the evening with my hubby.

We’ve been married for nearly 17 years, and I must admit we’ve never really “celebrated” Valentine’s Day particularly. We’ve always felt that we should be letting the other know every day of the year how special they are to us, that we shouldn’t need to do something special one day a year.

I hope we don’t take one another for granted, though I think that’s unlikely as we often tell one another how much we love one another and how much we appreciate all they do.

We love one another more today than each previous day!

As well as my hubby, I also try to make a point of telling the other people who are important to me and I love, just what they mean to me, because as I said in my blog post on Saturday, Memories Aren’t Forever I tried to remind you how important it is to tell your family and friends just how much they mean to you, as you never know when you’ll never get the chance to do so again. I hope you have taken my comments on board from Saturday.

Please share some Valentine’s Day love not just with your husband/wife, partner, boyfriend/girlfriend, but also with all your family and friends…in other words share some love with all those you care about, today and everyday.
