Are you a strong person?

I’ve found that it’s usually those who don’t think they are strong that are usually the strongest people. I know I never consider myself to be a strong person, particularly these days, but maybe I’m simply just confirming my own statement that those who are strongest don’t think they are strong!

There’s nothing wrong with loving others, in fact that’s exactly what we should do. But there is something wrong with crying behind closed doors, because we all need love and support. So just as I said yesterday, maybe we all need to show our vulnerabilities so others can see we need their love and support.

When we’re asked a question, we can often give elaborate answers which really tell the questioner nothing. So for the following questions I’m looking for single word answers only :

  1. Who is your role model?
  2. Are you more like your Mum or your Dad?
  3. If you could buy any car, what car would it be?
  4. What makes you cry?
  5. When was the last time someone told you they loved you?

Whatever your answers, did you answer honestly or did you give the answers you think you should be giving?

If you didn’t answer honestly, can I suggest you try again, but this time be honest with yourself, because if you are, you might get an insight into the ares of your life you need to change.

Ever wondered why it’s standard practice to close your eyes in certain situations? I wondered this, and although the following doesn’t answer al those circumstances when we close our eyes (e.g. when we sneeze), it does explain a lot.

So enjoy the heart-felt moments in your life, because they truly are most beautiful times in your life.

Have you ever felt like just shouting, “Just listen!”?

Sometimes when you’re going through some tough times, you may not always want to hear how “everything will be ok”, and how you’ll “make it through”, or how “things will get better”.

Sometimes you may just want to talk about how you are feeling, and what’s going on in your life, not because you think the person you’re talking to can fix everything or even understand…it’s simply about listening.

When I’m struggling I go all quiet and don’t really want to talk to anyone. I also try not to look anyone directly in the eye for any more than a brief second at a time.

Comforting a friendWhy? Because I’m scared that if anyone looks me straight in the eyes for more than a second or two, they’ll see my deepest feelings and emotions, and therefore know exactly how I feel. That in turn will make me fall apart and that, you may remember if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, would be my worst nightmare…falling apart in public.

Many people I’ve spoken to about my fear of falling apart have told me it would be good for me just to “let go”…they really do not understand how scary a thought that is for me. To be honest I’ve always felt I’d rather sit in a room by myself for hours than fall apart in public, and despite being told repeatedly it would be good for me to “let go”, I will continue to do all I can to stop my nightmare coming true in public!

Just because I don’t fall apart in public does not mean I never “let go” because I do. However I do agree it might me nice if someone was there to give me a hug and reassure me when I do fall apart – But the thought of doing that in public it so scary for me I’ll be trying my best to make sure that doesn’t happen!

I’ve used the following video of Michael W Smith‘s song We Can’t Wait Any Longer already this week, but I make no apology for using it again today as it gives a powerful message to each of us, to reach out any help the unloved…but will you accept that challenge?

A silent call from a distant land
Crying for a helping hand, so
How long will it go on?

Are you willing to let poverty and abuse continue in this world?

I’m sure you aren’t, so let’s do something about it, let’s pray…

…then pray some more….

…then pray again.

If we keep praying, God will help us change this world for the better!

Words sung by children in Michael W Smith‘s song We Can’t Wait Any Longer, but do you know what they mean?

I’m guessing like me you don’t know what those words mean, but does that give us an excuse to ignore the people singing them?

What if I now tell you what the children were singing

Can somebody hear us crying out?

When we hear someone crying I’m sure most of us would immediately want to offer comfort and support to those crying. But as these words I’ve shared with you show, it can be difficult to know and understand when some are crying out for help.

Not speaking the same language as someone else shouldn’t make it ok to ignore them and ignore their needs. Being part of God’s kingdom, and loving God should be more than enough to encourage us to understand and reach out to everyone in need, regardless of their nationality, language, colour of their skin, or even their background.

Isn’t it our responsibility as Christians to make sure when someone cries out for help that they don’t have to wait any longer for help!
