Brokenness

In the last few days I’ve spoken about failings and failures. In considering failures it’s been noticeable to me that the word “broken” has either come into my thoughts a lot, or I’ve found it frequently appears in the lyrics of songs I’ve listened to in relation to failures.

When you hear the word broken, what do you think of? Does it make you think of something that can be fixed or something damaged beyond repair?

In looking up the dictionary to get the definition of the word broken, I found it interesting that how broken is used varies depending on whether n object or a person is being referred to:

If referring to an object the dictionary states – having been fractured or damaged and no longer in one piece or in working order

While if referring to a person the dictionary states – (of a person) having given up all hope; despairing

It sounds as though if an object is broken it is repairable as it’s just been damaged, while if a person is broken, they have given up all hope!

I have to disagree with the dictionary definition when using the word broken to describe a person, as even if we feel broken and without hope, there is hope, and we can be made whole again, by God.

So if you’re feeling broken and without hope, let God make you feel beautiful again, by making you whole.

Beauty for Brokenness

Beauty for brokenness, hope for despair
Lord, in our suffering world, this is our prayer.
Bread for the children, justice, joy, peace
Sunrise to sunset, your kingdom increase.

Shelter for fragile lives, cures for their ills,
Work for the craftsman, trade for their skills.
Land for the dispossessed, rights for the weak,
Voices to plead the cause, for those who can´t speak.

God of the poor, friend of the weak, give us compassion we pray.
Melt our cold hearts, let tears fall like rain.
Come change our love from a spark to a flame.

Refuge from cruel wars, Havens from fear
Cities for sanctuary, freedom to share.
Peace to the killing fields, scorched earth to green,
Christ for the bitterness, his cross for the pain.

Rest for the ravaged earth, oceans and streams
Plundered and poisoned, our future, our dreams.
Lord, end our madness, carelessness, greed,
Make us content with the things that we need.

Lighten our darkness, breathe on this flame,
Until your justice burns brightly again;
Until the nations learn of your ways,
Seek your salvation and bring you their praise.

Looking for a solution to problems, but finding none?

Looking for a way to resolve conflicts in your life, but finding no way?

Feeling as if your life has no direction, but not knowing which way to turn?

Feeling as if there’s no way to turn your life around, because there seems no way forward?

Don’t despair, because there is someone who can help you find your way, God!

god will find a way

You may feel alone, you may feel forgotten, but God is there for you.

You may be desperate, you may be in real need, don’t despair, God is always there for you.

Here’s the International Staff Songsters of the Salvation Army singing Always There which reinforces the above statements:

bible-god-quotes

I doubt if any of us can claim to have a perfect life, but still there are those who think just because you smile, life is perfect. In fact life may be far from perfect, it may be full of physical pain, emotional stress and anguish, sorrow, despair…but still we smile because we know God loves us.

Please remember that just because someone looks ok on the outside doesn’t mean they are fine, as many of us are experts at “putting on” a public face to hide the pain and struggles we face on a daily basis.

struggleHave you ever been really struggling with life and expected or wanted someone you thought was a friend, to phone, email or text you to check you’re ok…and waited…and waited?

Funny isn’t it how friends who tell you they will always be there for you, are nowhere to be seen when you’re struggling and in need of a friend. How has it made you feel when you’ve been in that situation? When this has happened to me, I’ve gone through a range of emotions, from hurt, to despair, from anger to resignation that I’ll just need to go it alone.

Funny isn’t it how in these darkest of time we seem to turn to God almost as a last resort, when in fact He should be the first person we turn to in our hour of need.

In the Love of Jesus there is all I need,
While I follow closely where my Lord may lead;
By his grace forgiven,
In his presence blest,
In the love of Jesus,
In the love of Jesus, is perfect rest.

You’re all alone
Running out of ways to
Hold on to hope
And it always slips away
You’re all alone
But you don’t have to
Pretend to cope
There is a brighter way

Do the words of this song, ring true with you…Are you running out of ways to hold onto hope?

Don’t despair, there is still hope…there’s God!

As I said in yesterday’s blog post, you are Never Alone, because God is with you always. Therefore don’t feel alone, turn around and see God walking beside you.

Glory To The King by Darlene Zschech

You’re the comforter to the lonely
The lifter of my head
I see You veiled in majesty
We cry glory, glory
We cry glory to the King

Lord,my heart cries out
Glory to the King
My greatest love in life
I hand You everything
Glory,glory
I hear the angels sing.

Open my ears
Let me hear Your voice
To know that sweet sound
Oh my soul rejoice
Glory,glory
I hear the angels sing

You’re the Father to the fatherless
The answer to my dreams
I see you crowned in righteousness
We cry glory to the King
Comforter to the lonely
The lifter of my head
I see You veiled in majesty
We cry glory,glory
We cry glory to the King

We cry glory glory
We cry glory to the King

God is there in the depth of our despair and in the heights of our joy – Who else is there like that?

God is there for the lonely and gives them comfort – Who else is there like that?

God loves us unconditionally – Who else is there like that?

So how should we repay Him? We should give Him glory…Glory to the King!

1 Timothy 1:17 (NIV)

Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

If I could look into your heart today what would I see?

Would I see a heart full of love for God, or a heart full of despair and unbelief?

I hope that as God looks in my heart today and everyday, He sees a heart full of love for Him. I try my best to be the person God wants me to be, although I fail on many occasions, God still loves me, and He loves the fact that I continue to love Him.

Wherever you are and whatever you do, let your heart shine of God’s love.

Deuteronomy 6:5-6 (NIV)

Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.  These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.

All I can say is thank goodness it’s finally the weekend so I can actually rest!

If you’ve been reading my blog posts recently you will know that I just returned to work 3 weeks ago after being off sick since last year. Having said that, I’m not back at work full-time in the hope that returning to work this way will allow me to build up my strength again before having to face a full week at work.

Despite not working full-time this has still been a week full that has totally drained and exhausted me, both physically and mentally. So what has made this week such a tough one? Well here’s a very brief summary…

Monday

am – I was at the Golden Jubilee Hospital for tests
pm – I was working from home

Tuesday

am – I was at the Golden Jubilee Hospital for more tests
pm – I was at work

Wednesday

all day – I was at work all day

Thursday

all day – Hubby at the Royal Infirmary for an operation

Friday

am – I was at work
pm – With Mum to check on Aunt Mae’s house, visit Aunt Mae, then had a coffee before doing our shopping

So that has been my week – It’s been a very tough one for me, though maybe to you all this doesn’t sound like a very busy or stressful week, but to me, who’s still recovering from illness, it has been a very very long and exhausting week which has left me feeling totally exhausted and drained both physically and emotionally.

I’ve felt so tired it’s been difficult to even find the energy to get up from the sofa and go to bed and then vice versa. So I’m hoping that a weekend of rest (other than heading over to Mum/Dad’s to see Mum on Mother’s Day on Sunday), will help me feel better, because at the moment I don’t think I can face next week.

I just hope and pray that next week and the following weeks start to be a little easier to cope with as this was one tough week.

Yesterday in Rejected Heart I spoke about how devastating it can be to find someone you care about doesn’t have the same feelings for you, but did you also notice the other message in that blog post? God sent me an angel when I was in the darkest depths of despair, and that angel supported and encouraged me through those very difficult times.

So in the last couple of days my posts have been about angels (in Leading Us Home and Rejected Heart), and today is no different…

Why do I believe God sent me an angel at that difficult time in my life? God knew I was struggling physically, emotionally and spiritually at that time and knew I needed His help. God’s way of providing me with that help was to send me an angel, someone I knew but had previously never been particularly close in any way.

Are these people God sends to help us still angels even if they don’t know they are angels? Of course they are, it’s what they mean to the person they have been sent to (the recipient) that is the important part.

So no matter whether we realize God has sent us to be someone’s angel or not, it will not stop us doing the job God sent us to do.

Sometimes angels don’t know they are angels. But you know what? They still get the job done

All I can say again is that I truly believe in angels – God sends us angels to help us sometimes just for a short period of times, others for a lifetime, but either way they are still angels in God’s eyes.

Angels exist, and are sent by God!

Angel In Disguise by Delirious

Wake me up, shake me up,
Break me up and then put me back together.
Take my crown, let me drown,
Bring me round then stay with me forever.
I’ve never known love like this,
Maybe you’re an angel in disguise.

Call my name,
Somebody take me away.
Rescue me, completely.
No more shame,
Somebody take it away.
Rescue me.

Wake me up, take me up,
Feel the heat, it’s closer now than ever.
Secrets hide in the sand,
Take these bones and put me back together.
Oh, oh you’re killing me with just one kiss.
Maybe I’m an angel in your eyes.
