Yesterday we celebrated the birth of Jesus Christ. Today we think about just what His birth meant to Mary, his mother – How must she have felt to know that in her arms she was holding the Son of God?

What an awesome responsibility Mary and Joseph had to nurture their son, God‘s Son. I don’t know about you, but I think I would have crumbled under the pressure, thankfully Mary and Joseph weren’t me, and they did a wonderful job of caring for and looking after Jesus as he grew from a baby into man who saved the world!

Child of Love

Child of wonder, close Your eyes
Rest here in my arms tonight
Someday You will save the world
But tonight I’ll hold You right here in my arms

Precious miracle of life, child of love
Gift of hope, the gift of light from the Father above
And You were made for all mankind
You will always be mine, child of love

Gabriel‘s promise has come true
God has blessed this world with You
And as I humbly hold You now
In my heart I know I’m holding Heaven’s child

Precious miracle of life, child of love
Gift of hope, the gift of light from the Father above
And You were made for all mankind
But You will always be mine, child of love

Do you ever get the feeling everything is going against you?

Do you ever get the feeling that everyone is against you?

Yes, it may seem at times during your life that everything and everyone is against you, but that is not the entire truth because God is not against you!

It actually gets better than that, as Jesus is not against you.

The Holy Spirit is not against you.

The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are 100% for you, and they are greater than any foe that is against you.

It is God who has the final authority and the final say over everything that concerns you.

Romans 8:31 says:

If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

So Christmas 2012 is over, and we’ve welcomed in the new year, so what’s next for you?

Decorations down? Back to work? Normal service resumed?

Well whatever lies ahead for you, your family and friends, I ask but one thing of you… Please let God be part of your life this year – Whether God has been part of your life for years or whether you are on the verge of letting God into your life for the first time, take a few minutes now, today, to talk to God and give Him your heart for 2013…and forever more.

What Now? by Steven Curtis Chapman

I saw the face of Jesus
In a little orphan girl
She was standing in the corner
On the other side of the world
And I heard the voice of Jesus
Gently whisper to my heart
Didn’t you say you wanted to find Me
Well, here I am, here you are

So what now
What will you do now that you’ve found Me?
What now
What will you do with this treasure you’ve found
I know I may not look like what you expected
But if you’ll remember
This is right where I said I would be
You found me, what now?

And I saw the face of Jesus
Down on Sixteenth Avenue
He was sleeping in an old car
While his mom went looking for food
And I heard the voice of Jesus
Gently whisper to my soul
Didn’t you say you wanted to know me
Well, here I am
And it’s getting cold

So what now
What will you do now that you’ve found Me?
What now
What will you do with this treasure you’ve found
I know I may not look like what you expected
But if you’ll remember
This is right where I said I would be
You found me, what now?

So come and know
Come and know, know me now
Come, come and know, know me now
 Oh, come and know
Come, come and know, know me now
Come, come and know, know me now

Colossians 3:17 (NIV)

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Whether life is treating you well, or whether you’re struggling to face each day, we must be sure that we focus our efforts each day on God. God wants us each to do all we can in His name, therefore if we do that there surely is nothing more we can do!

Yesterday in Are They Blessings In Disguise #1 I talked about how the situations and circumstances we find ourselves in can be blessings, even if we don’t realise it at the time!

But how about people? During our lifetime we meet and encounter thousands of people, some for only a few seconds, others for years, but can we tell which people we meet are blessings and which we shouldn’t entertain in our lives?

We know of people in our lives who from the instant we meet them, we know we’re going to hit it off with them, that we can trust them with anything at any time. Then there are those who as soon as we meet them we feel uncertain and unsure whether they a genuine and can be trusted. It can be difficult sometimes to distinguish between these people sometimes, however, once in a while we can get it all wrong…

Have you ever made a judgement about someone when you first met them, thinking they will not become a true friend, only to find a while later that you’ve been completely wrong, that that person is in fact more genuine and trustworthy than you could have imagined. In yesterday’s blog post I recounted how I had someone unexpected reach out to me…that person was one of those people. Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t that I ever thought I couldn’t trust that person, but simply that I had never imagined us having the opportunity or requirement to become close friends and confidants.

So again you can see people, as well as circumstances can be a blessing from God, so don’t pre-judge people before you get to know them, as you never know they may just be your blessing in disguise!

I have seen the many faces of fear and of pain
I have watched the tears fall plenty from heartache and strain
So if life’s journey has you weary and afraid
There’s rest in the shadow of His wings

Are you struggling to stop your tears?

Does your life seem full of nothing but heartache and pain?

February is always a tough month for us, as my husband’s younger sister and his Mum both died in February (several years apart), and both their birthday’s were in February. In fact today is the twentieth anniversary of his sister’s death. I’ve been finding life a bit tough particularly in this last week or two due to what’s happening in my life just now, as well as thinking about the various sad anniversaries coming up this month for my husband.

So if like me, life’s getting the better of you and your feeling weary and alone, turn to God, as He will shelter you from harm and guide you through your darkest hours.

Cast all your cares on Him for He cares for you
He’s near to the broken and confused
By His stripes our spirit is renewed
So enter in the joy prepared for you
We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord,
We are one in the Spirit we are one in the Lord,
And we pray that all unity may one day be restored:
And they’ll know we are Christians
By our love, by our love,
Yes, they’ll know we are Christians By our love.
We will walk with each other we will walk hand in hand
we will walk with each other we will walk hand in hand
and together we’ll spread the news that God is in our land:
And they’ll know we are Christians
By our love, by our love,
Yes, they’ll know we are Christians
By our love.
We will work with each other we will work side by side
We will work with each other
We will work side by side
And we’ll guard each man’s dignity and save each man’s pride:
And they’ll know we are Christians
By our love, by our love
Yes, they’ll know we are Christians
By our love.
All Praise to the Father from whom all things come,
And all praise to Christ Jesus His only Son,
and all praise to the Spirit who makes us all one:
And they’ll know we are Christians
By our love, by our love
Yes, They’ll know we are Christians
By our love.

When people look at you, do they see a loving Christian, or something else?

As the song above says, people expect Christians to be loving and understanding towards others. So if we do not show love to others, how will other know we Christians.

Show some love to other today and every day!

It never ceases to amaze me how often God directs us to the same songs/bible passages/messages from various different angles and directions, but all so that we get His message loud and clear. And so that’s exactly what I’ve experience again in these last few days…

One of the things I’ve been looking at in my own personal devotions is how God accepts us just the way we are, faults and all. Then last night in our evening service we were reminded again to Come to God just as we are. Do you think God is trying to tell me something? I do.

God doesn’t care what we’ve done in our past, He cares about our future, and simply asks that we come to Him and let Him into our heart and our life. Therefore no matter what may be in your past, don’t be afraid to seek God, Him will forgive you and He will love you.

I get fed up at times when people I try to be pleasant and nice to, just ignore and/or hurt me. This world can be tough at times, and the people in this world can be even tougher and sometimes even hateful.

John 15:18-19 (NIV)

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.

If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

In the above verses from John, Jesus reminds us that it’s because we are different from the rest of the world, because we follow Him, that the world does not accept. However this should not worry or upset us, because God has called us, and chosen us to be His disciples, to be His witnesses in this world full of hatred.

So don’t yearn to be accepted by the world, because ultimately to be God’s witnesses we must be different, we must be Christlike in all we do.

When you hear the word “Glory” what do you think about? What do you see in your mind’s eye?

A victory? A football match? A tennis match? Successful completion of project at work? Or something else?

How about the glory of Jesus dying on the cross at Calvary?

This was the greatest victory of all time – How glorious that Easter Day when Jesus shed his blood just so we could be forgiven.

I love the song The Glory by Avalon, and it completely sums up the glory of what that first Easter morning signified:

Rejoice in the glory of the blood of Jesus!
