Joshua 1:9 (The Message)

Haven’t I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take.

As I mentioned in yesterday’s blog post (Granted), I reminded you that being a Christian does mean you are immune from facing difficulties in your life. However, we are assured that we never have to face any problem on our own, because just as it tells us in Joshua, God will be with us through everything.

It may seem at time that God isn’t with you, but remember, God does everything in His time, not in the timescales we necessarily want. Just trust God, because His is always with you.

When someone promises never to leave you, it can be hard to believe that they really mean it, especially because we don’t know what lies ahead. However, we can rely on God to be with us forever.

No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you. ~ Joshua 1:5 (New living translation)

Yes, be bold and strong! Banish fear and doubt! For remember, the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. ~ Joshua 1:9 (Living bible)

At the start each day, it’s important thank God for another day, and ask Him to be with us throughout our day. No matter what we face each day, if we go into it in the knowledge that God is by our side, we can be confident that we can get through anything!

strong and courageous

We all get afraid sometimes, particularly when what lies ahead of us seems frightening and we’re unsure if we’ll cope. However I can tell you from my own experience that even when I’ve felt afraid, it’s not seemed quite as bad because I know God is always with me, and will give be the strength and courage to face whatever comes my way.

Have I not told you? Be strong and have strength of heart! Do not be afraid or lose faith. For the Lord your God is with you anywhere you go. ~ Joshua 1:9 (New Life Version)

We are told many times in the bible to “be strong” because God will always be with us, but that doesn’t make it any easier to put into action does it!

Life can be cruel; Life can be difficult; Life can be a struggle; but life is ultimately why we are here, so we have to make the best of it, no matter what life throws our way.

So be strong, by praying to God asking Him to give you the strength to face whatever life throws your way.

As I said in yesterday’s blog post entitled Carry On Encouraging, we’re always told that we should encourage others, but how do we do that?

Joshua 9:9

Let your life blaze with the truth and presence of God. The people around you will be encouraged towards faith.

So you can see that it’s not always the case that we need to speak to someone personally to actually encourage them. Sometimes our actions and the way we live our life are enough to encourage someone by helping them find the strength to get through their troubles, by bringing them closer to God.

Do you know of someone who is need of being brought closer to God? I’d urge you to show your love for them by encouraging them more so that they might find God can be the answer they are looking for.

Are you scared of death? Are you frightened of death?

There’s no need to be scared, as God has promised us eternal rest in His presence when we reach the of our time on earth.

Hebrews 4:8-11 (The Message)

And so this is still a live promise. It wasn’t canceled at the time of Joshua; otherwise, God wouldn’t keep renewing the appointment for “today.” The promise of “arrival” and “rest” is still there for God’s people. God himself is at rest. And at the end of the journey we’ll surely rest with God. So let’s keep at it and eventually arrive at the place of rest, not drop out through some sort of disobedience.

While these words should reassure us, I’m sure it’s still only human nature to fear death and how we might feel during our final moments. That however should never stop us from believing that when our earthly body has died, we will find rest in God’s presence.

Revelations 14:13 (New Living Translation)

And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from their hard work; for their good deeds follow them!”

What about those who have never found God before they pass away?

As I touched on in my blog post yesterday entitled Non Believer, I truly believe that it’s never too late in someone’s life for them to be saved, regardless of their health or state of mind. God does work in mysterious ways at times, so no matter how unlikely we think it is that a loved one may be saved before their death, do not ever stop believing or praying as God does can still make a difference.

Look forward to heaven, it’s a place where eyes won’t cry and hearts won’t get broken…

‎Our awareness of God’s presence may falter, but the reality of His presence never changes

Isn’t it funny how sometimes when life maybe isn’t going our way we find God can be furthest from our mind. The thing is, God never does leave us, He is there with us at all times, through all things.

If Your Presence

Lord, if your presence does not go with us,
Please do not send us up from here.
How will anyone know we are your people
Unless you go before us?

Lord, if your favour does not rest on us
We dare not move beyond this place,
How will anyone know we go in your name
Unless your blessing is over us?

So we stand within your presence,
And humbly seek your grace;
Father Almighty, Jehovah, Saviour,
We long to meet you face to face.
Let your glory fall upon us,
Convict, inspire, provide;
Father Almighty, Jehovah, Saviour,
Your holy presence is our guide.

Lord if your presence does not stay with us,
Please do not send us up from here.
How will anyone hear of truth and goodness
Unless your Word speaks through us?

Lord, if your presence is not love in us
How can we minister your grace?
How will anyone feel your tender mercy
Unless your heart is in us?

So we stand within your presence…

Words based on Joshua 3:5 & Exodus 33:12-19
(Music by Yvonne Field)

I hope you enjoyed listening to the International Staff Songsters of the Salvation Army singing If Your Presence.

We often go from place to place with never a thought for those whose lives we touch. We must always remember that wherever we are and whoever we are with, we must have God‘s presence with us. Otherwise as the song says How will anyone know we are your people or that we go in your name, unless we’ve asked God to prepare the hearts of those we will meet.

Pray that God will go before you and open the hearts of those who will you contact, so that they too may be filled with God’s love and His presence.

How many “How To…” or “… for Dummies” manuals have you used over the last while?

Whenever we’re tackling a new task or trying to work out to the best way to tackle a new job we all tend to find a helpful reference manual to guide us through the steps to succeed.

But what about life? Do you use a reference manual for that?

The following is an extract from the best Life manual ever written…
“Study this Book of Instruction continually. mediate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do”

So what book is the above referring too? It’s the Bible. The above is taken from the book of Joshua chapter 1 and verse 8. Within the Bible you will find directions/guidance for all situations you will face in your life – Follow the instructions in the Bible and I guarantee you’ll experience the full extent of God’s love and support.

Michael W Smith’s song entitled “Ancient Words” is all about the Bible and reinforces the message I was trying to give to you – that the answers to all we face can be found in God’s book, the Bible. I personally find the words of the chorus very encouraging and very reassuring:

Ancient words ever true
Changing me, and changing you.
We have come with open hearts
Oh let the ancient words impart.

No matter whether you have never read the Bible before or whether you’ve read studied it before, I hope and pray that as you watch and listen to the following video, you are encouraged to open God’s word.

Ancient Words (by Michael W Smith)
Holy words long preserved
for our walk in this world,
They resound with God’s own heart
Oh, let the Ancient words impart.

Words of Life, words of Hope
Give us strength, help us cope
In this world, where e’er we roam

Ancient words will guide us Home.
Ancient words ever true
Changing me, and changing you.
We have come with open hearts
Oh let the ancient words impart.

Holy words of our Faith
Handed down to this age.
Came to us through sacrifice
Oh heed the faithful words of Christ.

Holy words long preserved
For our walk in this world.
They resound with God’s own heart
Oh let the ancient words impart.

Ancient words ever true
Changing me, and changing you.
We have come with open hearts
Oh let the ancient words impart.

We have come with open hearts
Oh let the ancient words impart.
