Are you looking for simple ways to encourage your heart and nourish your soul?

In the last while I’ve given you some ideas which will hopefully inspire you to implement them in your own life, and over the coming weeks I’ll share some others with you.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Make your own music

As I said in #44 in this series, music is a powerful thing that can have a tremendous effect upon both our spirit and our heart, bringing healing, peace, inspiration, joy and hope but it can also make us feel sad and emotional, and I encouraged you to listen to your favourite music.

But today my suggestion is still about music, but this time I’m going to suggest you make your own music – Whether you’re a singer, played a musical instrument many years ago but not played in a while, or always wanted to learn to play an instrument, it’s time to take action today and just do it! Join a choir, start refresher music lessons, book a teacher to start you on your journey of making music.

Music is an art like no other as it helps give expression to the deep emotions that we may be feeling but are unable to vocalise or express in any other way. So take up that art by making your own music as again, I can assure you that in doing so it will brighten your day.

Music is a powerful thing as it can have a tremendous effect upon both our spirit and our heart, bringing healing, peace, inspiration, joy and hope but it can also make us feel sad and emotional.

I find it quite amazing and inspiring that from just a few notes, we can go from one end of the emotional spectrum through music. I guess for each of us, the music that takes us to those opposite ends of the emotional spectrum can be very personal to us, and probably also depends on how we are feeling at the time we are listening to the music as well.

So what music lifts your spirit and inspires you to face the day and all the challenges hat may bring? Whatever music that is, I urge you to listen to that music each morning as it will set you up for the day and hopefully make your day that little bit brighter.

Create an environment of peace

Your home should be a sanctuary of peace, somewhere where you feel safe and secure, and can just be yourself no matter how you feel on the inside. It should be a haven full of love, laughter, and the peace of God.

It should be a refuge from the rest of the world for you and your family but also a place of encouragement and hospitality to others. So make sure you decorate and organize your home in a way you like so that it’s true beauty touches all your senses, and emanates true love.

Let your home be your sanctuary.

MerryChristmas

Everyone is always so busy on Christmas Day, with friends and family, eating and celebrating, that I’m not sure how many of you will read this blog post on Christmas Day, but in the chance that at least one of person read this on Christmas Day, I want to ask you to stop for a few minutes and pray for who are finding today very difficult. Let’s remember the reason for the season, and do our bit to spread some Christmas cheer by praying for those in special need of our love and help today:

  • Those who will spend today alone
  • The homeless
  • Those who mourning the loss of loved ones
  • Those who are ill or in hospital
  • The families of those who died in the tragic accident in George Square in Glasgow on Monday this week
  • Those who didn’t have money to buy their family any presents
  • Those who didn’t have any money to buy a meal for their family on Christmas Day

So please today, can you take a few minutes to pray for those for whom Christmas Day has not been a day full of joy and happiness. I pray your Christmas Day has been one full of joy and peace, and that you have  shared some precious moments with your family and friends.

Merry Christmas!

They say it takes a minute
to find a special person
an hour to appreciate them
a day to love them
but then an entire life
to forget them.

Do you agree with those words?

How many people from your past who weren’t special to you, do you actually remember much about?

But then there’s the people who have a huge impact on your life, who influence you and make a huge impression on you, do you ever forget about them? I’m sure even if they are people who are long gone, they still come to your mind sometimes, and I’m sure you still love them for being that special to you.

Are there people in your life who are special to you? Have you told them how special they are to you?

Share your happiness, share you joy, tell those special people in your life just how much they mean to you.

Heaven’s Grocery Store

I was walking down life’s highway a long time ago.
One day I saw a sign that read “Heaven’s Grocery Store”.
As I got a little closer, the door came open wide.
When I came to myself, I was standing just inside.
I saw a host of angels.  They were standing everywhere.
One handed me a basket and said, “My child, please shop with care”.
Everything a Christian needed was in that Grocery Store.
All you couldn’t carry, you could come back the next day for.
First, I got some PATIENCE; LOVE was in the very same row.
Further down was UNDERSTANDING, you needed it wherever you go.
I got a box or two of WISDOM, a bag or two of FAITH.
I just couldn’t miss the HOLY SPIRIT, for He was all over the place!!
I stopped to get some STRENGTH and COURAGE to help me run this race.
By then my basket was getting full but…I remembered I needed some GRACE!
I didn’t forget SALVATION, for SALVATION was free.
So I tried to get enough of that to save both you and me.
Then I started up to the counter to pay my grocery bill,
for I thought I had everything to do my Master’s will.
As I wind up the aisle I saw PRAYER and I just had to put that in.
For I knew when I stepped outside, I would run right into sin.
PEACE and JOY were plentiful; they were on the last shelf.
SONGS and PRAISES were hanging near, so I just helped myself.
Then I said to the angel, “How much do I owe?”
He just smiled and said, “Just take them everywhere you go.”
Again I smiled at him and said, “How much do I owe?”
He smiled again and said……
“My child, JESUS PAID YOUR BILL A LONG TIME AGO!”

Heaven’s Grocery Store

Today at work I realised I was 8 weeks behind in my timsheets – Oops! Mind you as well as noticing this I also realised that the “timesheet police” haven’t been after me yet, which is most unusual – They usually descend on you if you get more than a few weeks behind.

So having noticed how far behind I was, did I immediately catch up in my timesheets? Of course not! I hate filling in timesheets, and as I decided what difference is one more day behind going to make! It’s a task I usually do first thing in the morning before my brain is completely in gear, so will tackle this task tomorrow I suppose. Roll on tomorrow…not!

Anyway, all these thoughts about timesheets and how I’ve been spending my time, got me thinking a bit more generally about my time management…

  • times of boredom
  • times of joy
  • times of despair
  • times of learning
  • times of reflection
  • times of worry
  • times of work
  • times of relaxation

Where in all that is my “time for God”? I have got a bit of a reputation at work of being a very organised person (yes I know those of you who know me outside of work may be astounded by that but it’s true!), but that doesn’t seem to be reflected in my time management of my “time for God”. Also, look at my list again…how many of those “times of…” could be lessened id only I look them at to God in prayer!

Fitting in with today’s thoughts, please listen to the song For Such A Time As This

Do you manage your time with God the way God expects and wants you to? Why not take a step back today and reevaluate whether you spend enough “quiet time” with God each day.

Make today your “My Time Management for God” day.

Wasted Hours
So many hours are spent in
Pursuing our earthly desires
Without asking what God’s plans are
Or what, from us, He requires

We struggle so hard to fill
The emptiness and the boredom
We look unto earthly pleasures
To fill the void within

But so much time is wasted
In things that have no worth
Things that seem to take the place
Of what we know should be first

Like our relationship with God
And our faith in Jesus Christ
For He’s the only one to fulfil
The emptiness we have inside

Our hope of eternal glory
With Jesus Christ our Lord
This should be our only focus
For nothing in life is worth more

Don’t Quit

by: Unknown Author

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh.
When care is pressing you down a bit.
Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns
As every one of us sometimes learns.
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out:
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out –
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt.
And you never can tell how close you are.
It may be near when it seems so far:
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

Always remember God is with you.

Through times of joy and times of despair, God is with you.

God will pick you up and guide you towards your goal, and will help you to learn to from your experiences.

Trust God always, He will never let you down.

Struggling a bit today to find the time blog as been very long and busy day at work. Therefore I would just like to share with you song of Great Great Joy, sung by the International Staff Songsters of the Salvation Army.

Full Joy

Hardly a day goes by without us hearing of someone saying, “Why me, why now, why this?”.

In Peter, he told the believers not to be surprised but the troubles and trials they experienced because they believed and followed Christ:
Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.
(1 Peter 4:12-13 NIV)

While we may not face persecution because we believe in Christ, as those Peter was writing to did, we do all face pain and suffering at some time in our lives. So these words of Peter can be used for ourselves.

Are you finding it difficult to be full of joy because your life is full of pain and hurt? Do you feel God is far away from you? Well Peter also reminds us to trust God even though we can’t see Him or even see Him working.

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
(1 Peter 1:8-9 NIV)

Even when we are facing troubles, we too can express joy because we believe and trust in God. After all Christ wants us to enjoy our reward for following Him, He says so in 1 Peter 1:9 (see above).

The song Great, Great Joy sung here by the International Staff Songsters fits in excellently with my message:
