What type of person are you?

  1. Are you the kind of person who gets up hours before you have to be anywhere just so you can take things at a leisurely pace without needing to rush?
  2. Or are you the kind of person who has everything planned so you have just enough time to get up get ready, and get to wherever you need to be?
  3. Or are you the person who puts the alarm on snooze one too many times in the morning, so you end up rushing around trying to get yourself ready so you can just about make it to wherever you’re meant to be?

Whichever person you are, did you stop for just a few minutes to pray? If we want God to be part of every minute of our lives, we must start the day by asking God to be with us and guide us through each day, whatever that may bring.

Keith and Kristyn Getty have a song called Before You I Kneel (A Worker’s Prayer), which I find is a great prayer to use at the start of each day. Why not use this yourself to start each day?

Right living

Ephesians 2:8-9 (NIV)

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.

Faith is not about right thinking it is actually about right living. To put our faith fully in God, we must not just know what is right, we must also act or live in the right ay, the way God directs us to.

Are you living your life right?

While listening to my iPod on shuffle the last week, my attention was caught by the introduction to the following song as it was Gabriel’s Oboe from The Mission, a piece of music I love:

Over and above the wonderful music though, this song has a strong message for each of us:

Holy Spirit, living breath of God,
Breathe new life into my willing soul.
Let the presence of the risen Lord,
Come renew my heart and make me whole.
Cause Your Word to come alive in me;
Give me faith for what I cannot see,
Give me passion for Your purity;
Holy Spirit, breathe new life in me.

So let God renew your life today so that you can be a living example of His love for everyone.

I’m sure we’ve all come across people who think that because we are Christians, life is a bed of roses, with no problems or worries. How brilliant would that be!

Sadly though this couldn’t be further from the truth, as Christians. just like everyone else, suffer the same problems and worries in life and the next person. The difference being that, because we are Christians, our faith gives us the knowledge and the strength the understand that we can get through anything and everything life throws our way.

faith make things possible

So no matter what you are facing, remember that God will get you through it – That’s what faith in Him can do!

How suddenly a baby cries and all forever change
As shepherds leave the angel song to find this holy place,
Where in her young and trembling arms a virgin holds her Son
And in this Child of breath divine our Light has finally come.

She ponders how the Magi kneel before Emmanuel.
With gold and frankincense and myrrh Christ’s sacrifice they tell.
A dream would help them flee a king whose pride would cruelly destroy.
As mothers weep God’s mercy meets the hunger for His joy.

What wonder still that Anna filled with praise should bless the Lord;
Her aging eyes now looking on the Savior of the world.
For night and day her prayers had filled the temple of our God.
Her heart could tell His saving hand within this gift of love.

Hear Simeon who had waited long draw near to hold the child
To speak of Him who would reveal the many thoughts we hide:
That hearts would rise to know His grace but many fall away;
A sword would pierce His mother’s soul upon redemption day.

How suddenly a baby cried and all forever changed.
Through history soul by soul have come to find His healing grace.
He filled my troubled heart with peace, with hope of endless worth.
My voice will join the song of praise that tells Messiah’s birth.

That day, over 2000 year ago, when Jesus was born, changed the world forever.

Have you found peace and hope in Christ? No matter what happens in your life, Christ can meet your every need, calm your troubled heart, so come to Him today.

Were you in a rush when you got up for work this morning?

Did you stop for a minute to pray for your day?

Before You I Kneel by Keith and Kristyn Getty is a great prayer to use at the start of each day, so why not listen to this tomorrow morning when you get up, and make it your prayer for the day.

Do you consider yourself to be a sinner?

The bottom line is we are all sinners, as none of us are perfect. This can be hard for us to completely understand as we all have a tendency to think of ourselves as “doing ok”, or “good” as we’ve never committed any major wrongs. Unfortunately this is not how sin is measured, as we are either we are either sinners or perfect, and none of us are perfect, and perfectionism is reserved for God himself.

So perfection is what we aspire to. However we must remember that it perfection in God’s eyes we should aspire to, not what this world calls “perfection”. So pray, seek God’s forgiveness for your sins, and ask Him to help you become more like Him.

dedicate ourselves to GodLast week in Refurbishment I told you that our new worship hall and refurbished building at Bellshill Salvation Army was now complete and we were returning to our building this weekend. Yesterday we had our open day when we invited friends, family and our community to come and see our new building, and share in music and fellowship with us. Well what a turnout, the place was mobbed! That’s not a complaint of course, as it was fantastic to see so  many people share with us in our new building.

So today we met for our first service/meeting in our new hall, and just like yesterday, the place was mobbed! Our first meeting in our new hall and we had to bring in extra seats! It was particularly great to see so many people who had never worshipped with us before, join with us on this special day.

From the moment the band played their first note of the day, outside the hall, to welcome everyone to worship, to the final song and prayer, it was clear we were in God’s presence. During the meeting we were encouraged to rededicate ourselves to God. I must admit to finding the emotion of the occasion a bit overwhelming having personally had a very emotional and difficult week. I was emotional because this week has been the first anniversary of my Aunt Mae passing away, and she was a true Christian who lived her whole life serving God through the Salvation Army in Rutherglen, and for me if I can rededicate my life to God and serve Him half as well as Aunt Mae did, I’ll be doing well.

Our corps at Bellshill has started a new chapter in the corps history in our new hall, and today I simply pray that as I recommitted my life to God today, He will continue to help and guide me wherever and in whatever He has planned for me.

To finish, I’d like to leave you with In Christ Alone which was my musical highlight from this morning, as it’s a personal favourite, but the words were so perfect for today,:

In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! who took on flesh
Fulness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones he came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied –
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave he rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine –
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath.
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand.

You may have realised by now if you’ve been following my blog for any amount of time, that I love music and I have a lot of favourite songs. I make no apology for sharing so many of my favourite songs with you because I feel that if they can touch my heart, they are just as likely to touch your heart too…and when Christ is involved you never know what that may lead to!

Yesterday in Only Christ I shared with you another of my favourite song, In Christ Alone. There are some specific words from this song that touch me whenever I hear or sing this them…

What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

And as He stands in victory
 Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

and my favourite words of all…

No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
‘Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

Do you consider yourself to be wise?

Wisdom, as Joyce Meyer puts it, is “decisions you make now that you will be happy with later“.

I’m sure we’ve all made decisions which at the time seemed like the right ones, only to find out future down the line that we’ve made the wrong choice. Thankfully, we have someone who will always provide wisdom in every situation…God!

To God belong wisdom and power; counsel and understanding are his. (Job 12:13 NIV)
