How it should be

Could it be that on my worst day
How you love me still will not change
What if it’s really not about
What I do but what you did, oh what if
This ain’t wishful thinking it’s just how it is

When you’re having a really bad day, have you noticed how all you can think about is how you feel and how all the bad things are affecting you? Everything and everyone else seem incidental, your focus is on you…God simply doesn’t come into your thoughts.

These are the days we particularly need to remember how it should be

What if it’s really not about
What I do but what you did
Do you need to remind yourself that everything is about Christ and the sacrifice he gave for us?

Are you someone who notices all the flaws in your church or do you see the potential in your church and it’s members?

Because we as we as individuals are imperfect, so our churches are also imperfect. Therefore I am never quite sure why some move from one church to another citing failures in the church or its members are their reason for moving, because isn’t it us as members of a church who contribute to that church being imperfect?

Nicky Gumbel sums up my thought well in this quote:

Stop looking for a perfect church. It does not exist. Join an imperfect church and serve in every way you can to make it nearer perfection

When we talk about protection, what do you think about?

  • protection from the sun. i.e. Suncream
  • protective clothing such as overalls, hard hats etc
  • door locks to protect our homes and cars from thieves

These are just a few examples of protection we probably all consider without really thinking about it.

What about protection for your soul? What do you do to protect yourself from evil influences or distractions? The answer I hope is clear, pray, read your bible and listen to God’s guidance because He will guide and protect you if you simply trust Him.

Peace is not being where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It is being in the midst of those and still being calm in your heart. ~ Nicky Gumbel

Are you shying away from the hard work, and those in need, or are you out there in the midst of those in dire need of God?

I’ve found a place
Where I can finally be a part of the story
I’ve been embraced
By the wonderful arms of glory
There is nowhere else I’d rather be

I believe Your spirit is alive and on the move
Oh I want to be caught up in the middle of You
I wanna be a part of what I know you’re gonna do
Oh I wanna be caught up in the middle of You

I finally see
The very reason for my existence
I am complete
When I’m standing within Your presence
And now I know where I’m supposed to be

I believe Your spirit is alive and on the move
Oh I want to be caught up in the middle of You
I wanna be a part of what I know you’re gonna do
Oh I wanna be caught up in the middle of You

You have called me all along
This is right where I belong
Caught up in You
Caught up in You

I believe Your spirit is alive and on the move
Oh I want to be caught up in the middle of You
I wanna be a part of what I know you’re gonna do
Oh I wanna be caught up in the middle of You

Caught up in the middle
Caught up

When someone says or does something that hurts you, how do you feel? Do you feel in a position to try to help others then, or is that the last thing on your mind?

I recently read the following quote from Joyce Meyer, which I found quite helpful:

I really believe that something happens on the inside of us – there’s a breakthrough for us – when we reach out to the hurting people…especially when we’re hurting ourselves.

I have found through my own experiences, that through my own suffering, and times of hurt, I understand better how others who are hurting feel, and therefore I’m in a far better position to actually reach out and help others who are hurting, simply because I understand how it feels to hurt.

I pray today that God will help me reach out to those who are hurting and offer them the support and help they need.

Aches and pains

The love of God is what heals every ache and pain you have inside you and God is never going to stop loving you! ~ Joyce Meyer

When you hear the words “aches and pains” I’m sure you thought of physical pain, maybe a time when you strained a muscle or went over on your ankle. But “aches and pains” don’t need to be physical aches and pains for God to heal them, as God looks after us emotionally as well as physically, and therefore He has promised to heal our emotional aches and pains too.

While we may always want our aches and pains to disappear quickly, we must remind ourselves that in suffering these aches and pains, they make us stronger. They make us stronger because through it all, God loves us.

The Hurt and the Healer by MercyMe

Why?
The question that is never far away
The healing doesn’t come from the explained
Jesus please don’t let this go in vain
You’re all I have
All that remains

So here I am
What’s left of me
Where glory meets my suffering
I’m alive
Even though a part of me has died
You take my heart and breathe it back to life
I’ve fallen into Your arms open wide
When the hurt and the healer collide

Breathe
Sometimes I feel it’s all that I can do
Pain so deep that I can hardly move
Just keep my eyes completely fixed on You
Lord take hold and pull me through

So here I am
What’s left of me
Where glory meets my suffering
I’m alive
Even though a part of me has died
You take my heart and breathe it back to life
I’ve fallen into your arms open wide
When the hurt and the healer collide

It’s the moment when humanity
Is overcome by majesty
When grace is ushered in for good
And all our scars are understood
When mercy takes its rightful place
And all these questions fade away
When out of the weakness we must bow
And hear You say “It’s over now”

I’m alive
Even though a part of me has died
You take my heart and breathe it back to life
I’ve fallen into your arms open wide
When The hurt and the healer collide
Jesus come and break my fear
Awake my heart and take my tears
Find Your glory even here

When the hurt and the healer collide [x2]
Jesus come and break my fear
Awake my heart and take my tears
Find Your glory even here

It can be difficult at times when you’re hurting or struggling with life, and that’s why some of the words in this song as so real to me, particularly at the moment…

Breathe
Sometimes I feel it’s all that I can do
Pain so deep that I can hardly move
Just keep my eyes completely fixed on You
Lord take hold and pull me through

The song mentions pain, and in life that pain can be physical and/or emotional, however whichever it is, they are both equally difficult to cope with.

Yes, I’m struggling, and yes I’m struggling physically and emotionally, but I do still believe God is with me and despite my pain, He will keep hold of me, and He will pull me through.

If you’re struggling, please don’t forget that God can heal your hurt if you just keep your eyes completely fixed on Him.

If you are a Christian, I’d ask you today to look back at your life before the time you asked God into your heart…now look at your life now, has the way you lived your life changed?

If your life hasn’t changed, it would suggest that you haven’t given the whole of your life to God. When God is at the centre of our life, we must put out of our lives all things that are not Christ-like.

Matthew 18:2-4 (NIV)

He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Why is it important to us to have a place we can call home?

Here’s a few reasons I need a place called home:

  • A place to relax with hubby
  • I can openly show my emotions and feeling without feeling I’m being judged
  • A place of safety
  • It’s warm (sometimes too warm!)
  • It’s a place where I can spent “quiet time” with God
  • It’s a place I can simply be me

Yes, we all need a roof over our heads to shelter from the weather and be safe, however as my list shows, my home provides me with so much more than simply shelter. If all my home provided was shelter, I don’t think it could truly be considered “home“.

I know when I’m over at Mum and Dad’s it still feels like home because Mum and Dad are there, and they make me feel safe. That shows me that although the house provides shelter and heat, what makes a house is the people in it.

Is your home more than just a place of shelter and warmth? I pray your house may also be your home.

I get fed up at times when people I try to be pleasant and nice to, just ignore and/or hurt me. This world can be tough at times, and the people in this world can be even tougher and sometimes even hateful.

John 15:18-19 (NIV)

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first.

If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

In the above verses from John, Jesus reminds us that it’s because we are different from the rest of the world, because we follow Him, that the world does not accept. However this should not worry or upset us, because God has called us, and chosen us to be His disciples, to be His witnesses in this world full of hatred.

So don’t yearn to be accepted by the world, because ultimately to be God’s witnesses we must be different, we must be Christlike in all we do.
