I don’t know about you, but for me it takes hearing (and playing) Christmas music, to really get me feeling as though it’s Christmastime. So today here’s Christmas Festival performed by Houston Symphonic Band…how many of the carols do you recognise, and how many can you say you know all the words to (original words only please!)

You may have realised by now if you’ve been following my blog for any amount of time, that I love music and I have a lot of favourite songs. I make no apology for sharing so many of my favourite songs with you because I feel that if they can touch my heart, they are just as likely to touch your heart too…and when Christ is involved you never know what that may lead to!

Yesterday in Only Christ I shared with you another of my favourite song, In Christ Alone. There are some specific words from this song that touch me whenever I hear or sing this them…

What heights of love, what depths of peace
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease
My Comforter, my All in All
Here in the love of Christ I stand

And as He stands in victory
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine
Bought with the precious blood of Christ

and my favourite words of all…

No power of hell, no scheme of man
Can ever pluck me from His hand
‘Till He returns or calls me home
Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand

Did the words of the song in the above video ring true for you?

Do you believe God will carry you through every problem, every trial?

I do! God is my strength and comfort at all times, and He can be yours too, you just need to ask Him

The words of the above song, He Will Carry Me by Mark Schultz,  are so true to me, I want to share these with you

I call, You hear me
I’ve lost it all
And it’s more than I can bear
I feel so empty

You’re strong, I’m weary
I’m holding on
But I feel like giving in
But still You’re with me

(Pre-chorus and Chorus)
And even though I’m walking
Through the valley of the shadow
I will hold tight to the hand of Him
Whose love will comfort me
And when all hope is gone
And I’ve been wounded in the battle
He is all the strength that I will ever need
He will carry me

I know I’m broken
But You alone
Can mend this heart of mine
You’re always with me
And even though I’m walking
Through the valley of the shadow
I will hold tight to the hand of Him
Whose love will comfort me
And when all hope is gone
And I’ve been wounded in the battle
He is all the strength that I will ever need
He will carry me
He will carry me

(Bridge)
And even though I feel so lonely
Like I have never been before
You never said it would be easy
But You said You’d see me through the storm

And even though I’m walking
Through the valley of the shadow
I will hold tight to the hand of Him
Whose love will comfort me
And when all hope is gone
And I’ve been wounded in the battle
He is all the strength that I will ever need
He will carry me
He will carry me
He will carry me

Do you wonder as you watch my face
If a wiser one should  have had my place?
But I offer all I am
For the mercy of Your plan
Help me be strong, help me be, help me

Breath of Heaven, hold me together
Be forever near me, breath of Heaven
Breath of Heaven, lighten my darkness
Pour over me Your holiness for You are holy

God has a plan for each us. What God has planned for us, we can achieve, even if it seems impossible. We simply have to let Him help us, as He can lighten our darkness, and help keep us strong.

Breath of Heaven, help me

Over the last while I’ve asked you a couple of times whether you had ever noticed how there are some things which happen in films which never ever happen in real life – today it’s time for some more examples!

top15moviesHere’s a few examples which show what I’m saying:

  1. When paying for a taxi, don’t look at your wallet as you take out a note. Just grab one out at random and hand it over. I’ll always be the exact fare.
  2. All bombs are fitted with electronic timing devices with large red digital displays so you know exactly when they are going to explode.
  3. You always wake up with every hair in place. i.e. No “bed-head”!
  4. Plain girls can become movie stars simply by removing their glasses and letting their hair down.
  5. Many musical instruments (especially wind instruments and accordions) can be played without moving your fingers.
  6. It’s not necessary to say “Hello” or “Goodbye” when beginning a telephone conversation.
  7. A disconnected telephone call can always be restored by frantically beating the cradle and saying “Hello? Hello?” repeatedly.
  8. You will survive any battle in any war unless you show someone a picture of your sweetheart back home.
  9. All single women have a cat!
  10. If a microphone is turned on it will immediately feedback.

Any of these sound familiar?

Obviously these are complete generalisations because not every film follows the above rules, but I’m sure you’ll agree, you can think of a lot which do!

enjoy-the-silenceI know I’ve talked before about how some folk just seem to have their volume control turned up to full all the time, but there are in fact some times when the quietness can be just as uncomfortable…

Ever noticed how many of us don’t like it when it’s quiet, when no-one is talking? Funny how someone always feels the need to break that quietness…usually with something completely unrelated to any previous discussion, and in many occasions trying to be funny but completely failing!

Have you ever noticed how there are some people you can sit in silence with for ages and never feel uncomfortable with? They are the folk you love and trust, and that is why silence is so easy to cope with and not uncomfortable at all.

So, yes, there are some times when quietness or silence is uncomfortable, but then there are also some situation where the silence is just so natural. Hold onto those relationships where silences are comfortable as they are your important and valuable relationships.

Is life about helping others or about getting one over on someone?

I do wonder sometimes, as there are definitely a lot of folk about who always seems more intent on trying to get one over on someone else, than in actually working together and helping others.

What makes me even sadder about that observation is that some of those people I’m talking about profess to be Christinas…and that makes me mad!

We need to get the message out there that we’re all in this together, and therefore life should be about helping one another, not trying to get one over on everyone else. i.e. Help others rather than trying to beat them.

When you’re learning to play a musical instrument of any kind, one of the first things you get taught after you first learn the notes, is scales!

I must be honest and say I always hated practicing scales on any of the instruments I’ve been taught to play…piano, clarinet and trombone. Therefore when one of my friends posted this YouTube video on Facebook I immediately Liked it and wished it had been as interesting as this when I was learning scales…enjoy….

If you read my blog post yesterday, In His Thoughts, I’m sure you’ll have already got the connection with the song in the above video, So You Would Come. If not, here’s the link, this song talks about how we were on God‘s mind long before we were even born, and everything He has ever done, has been done for you and for me.

We may fail God many times during our lifetime, but nothing we could ever do will stop God from loving us. Isn’t that absolutely amazing!

So You Would Come

Before the world began
You were on His mind
And every tear you cry
Is  precious in His eyes
Because of His great love
He gave His only Son
Everything was done
So you would come

Nothing you can do
Could make  Him love you more
And nothing that you’ve done
Could make Him close the door
Because of His great love
He gave His only Son
Everything was done
So you would come

Come to the Father
Though your gift is small
Broken hearts, broken lives
He will take them all
The power of the Word
The power of His blood
Everything was done
So you would come

I’ve found myself doing a lot of counting recently…not because I’ve been doing loads of sums or anything, but simply to try and stop me from disagreeing with/arguing with certain people!

I don’t know about you, but there are definitely certain people who, regardless of what they say, or how they say it, just seem to wind me up the wrong way! So it’s no great surprise that it’s been some of these folk that have caused me to do a lot of counting in the last few weeks.

The thing is, the very fact that I have recognised that these specific folk wind me up the wrong way, should really have helped me to try and be more understanding towards them. However I feel it ain’t working very well, because I seem to be having to count more and more rather than less!

I’ve prayed for understanding and patience with these folk, but so far I’m still struggling. I am however confident that God will help me, and He will answer my prayers, maybe not today, or tomorrow or even in a way I expect, but He will answer them!
