drowning2It’s great how we all try to help one another through difficult or troubling situations, however we must be willing to recognise when we are out of our depth.

The person in difficulty may be troubled by something we know nothing about or have no personal experience of.

It’s ok to tell someone that you want to help them but feel their problem is out with your knowledge or expertise to help them. Always offer to introduce them though to someone else who you know can help them better than you could.

Never leave someone in need thinking they are on their own and no-one understands their situation or how they feel, as reassurance I something that is always welcomed by those in need.

I read recently that when trying to help someone in difficulty, it’s better not to turn to scriptures too quickly. Does that surprise you, it surprised me!

They said that this is because “people in difficulty that don’t really care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

So whoever you are trying to help, make sure you show your compassion and concern for them and show you understand their difficulties, before  attempting to give them any kind of biblical perspective on their situation. I.e. understand how the person feels, empathise with them because this can be just as encouraging to someone knowing someone else understands their feelings, than to immediately offer them advice or guidance.

So when trying to help someone, don’t offer advice and guidance immediately, but instead offer understanding and empathy.

In a world where so many try to imitate or copy celebrities in their looks, their dress-sense, their actions and even the way they walk and talk, is there really anyone out there who is exactly who they are?

Of course there are, as not all of us and driven to act/look like celebrities. However I say that with one caveat…I may not take action to look or act more like today’s celebrities or star, but I do try my best to live my life like the one person I consider to be the Real Things, Christ.

How about you, are you trying to live your life in the image of the rich and famous, or are you trying to live like the Real Thing, Christ?

I read the following quote from Albert Einstein last week:

If you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree it will live its life believing its stupid

Don’t let people put you down by making wrong judgements and assumptions about you.

You know the truth about yourself, and God knows you better than even you know yourself, so be who God made you to be.

bebe yourself no matter what others think

loneliness3Ever felt like you’ve no strength left to get you through another day?

Ever felt that physically you have nothing left to give?

Ever felt that you are emotionally drained?

To be strong you must realise your human weakness and have the courage to ask for help from God and your fellow human beings.

The best and most beautiful things in this world cannot be seen or even heard, but must be felt with the heart ~ Helen Keller

How beautiful and true is that!

When something touches your heart, it can be difficult to describe, however it is always beautiful to experience.

So open your heart today, and let the beautiful things of life truly touch your heart. I can recommend it, it is great therapy particularly when you’re going through some tough times.

LiarIt’s hurtful when people lied to us isn’t it? Why do some people think it’s acceptable to lie openly and blatantly to others?

I recently read the following quote, which despite its simplicity, hits the mark:

The worst thing about being lied to is simply knowing you weren’t worth the truth ~ Unknown

The most important thing to remember when others lie to you, is that it is not you who is the problem, it is them! If they haven’t got the guts or the honestly to tell you the truth, are they really worth getting upset or annoyed about?!

Don’t get drawn into a web of lies and deceit, because it will become ingrained in you and you’ll find it difficult to stop lying.

The first to apologise is the bravest
The first to forgive is the strongest
And the first to forget is the happiest

Are you “the first”?

God can help you to become “the first”. Just ask Him because He can help you be brave, He can help you forgive, and He can also help you be happy.

What more could you ask for!

truth or liesI’m sure we’ve all come across people who we would never share anything private with because we know they wouldn’t be able to stop themselves from telling others..Then there are those we know we could tell anything to, but still know it would never go any further.

I’m also sure we’ve all come across people who do not tell the truth…Then there are those who can always be relied on to tell the truth, even in difficult circumstances where they have to choose their words carefully so as not to cause offence or hurt.

Albert Einstein once said…

Anyone who doesn’t take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted in large ones either

So can you be trusted? Are you always truthful?

At the end of the day it’s always better to be truthful and disliked for it than tell lies and never be trusted because of it.

In yesterday’s blog post Helping Isn’t Always Easy I spoke about a situation I’ve been in recently where I been finding it quite difficult to help someone in need. So I wondered, was it just coincidence that today I came across the following quote?

Stop talking about what everybody has done to you and start talking about what you can do for somebody else.

Life isn’t about the past and what has happened in it, it’s about living in the present and looking to the future. Therefore forgive those who have hurt you in the past, move on, and find things you can do to help others. After all there are so many people in need in this world it’s not difficult to find someone who needs your help!

Helping isn’t always easy however there are plenty of people in this world in need of help so don’t be put off just because some may not react in the manner you’d expect when you try to help them.
