I’ve done a few Word Associations with you over the last while, and today it’s time for another one – This time with a theme, Music!

So as usual I’m going to throw some words at you, and I want you to note down the first word that comes into your mind when you read each word.

So here goes…

  1. Garage
  2. Power
  3. Dentist
  4. Vase
  5. Wound
  6. Camera
  7. Inhale
  8. Light
  9. Tie
  10. Bus

wordsSo how did you get on with those words? Did you find it easy? Did your answers surprise you or were they just as you expected?

Well here’s my responses to my questions:

  1. Money!
  2. Cut
  3. Abscess
  4. Water
  5. Scar
  6. Photos
  7. Asthma
  8. Spot
  9. Link
  10. Bell

I still believe that when we respond with the first words that come into our minds, our answers tell us a lot about our emotional state, and what’s important to us at that particular point in time.

Bearing all this in mind, review your answers, does my theory hold true?

By the way, if you want me to explain any of my answers, just ask!

In the last couple of days I’ve been talking about how we need to shine our light in this dark world. In order for a light to shine, it needs to get its power or energy from somewhere, so where do we get our energy from to shine our light?

The answer can be found in John 8:12:

I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

To make sure we have the power/energy to shine our light we must trust God. When we follow Him, he will give us the strength and guidance to shine our light.

Make sure you have the power to shine your light, so trust God and in return He will give you the light of life.

Here’s one of my favourite Salvation Army band pieces called The Light of the World (Dean Goffin). It features the hymn tune Aurelia which in this piece of music we associate with the following words:

O Jesus, Thou art standing, outside the fast closed door,
In lowly patience waiting to pass the threshold o’er:
Shame on us, Christian brothers, His Name and sign who bear,
O shame, thrice shame upon us, to keep Him standing there!

O Jesus, Thou art knocking; and lo, that hand is scarred,
And thorns Thy brow encircle, and tears Thy face have marred:
O love that passeth knowledge, so patiently to wait!
O sin that hath no equal, so fast to bar the gate!

O Jesus, Thou art pleading in accents meek and low,
“I died for you, My children, and will you treat Me so?”
O Lord, with shame and sorrow we open now the door;
Dear Saviour, enter, enter, and leave us nevermore.

Thunderstorm!

It’s to use your imagination!

Imagine it’s an evening, it’s dark outside, you’re in your house safe and warm, sitting with your feet up watching the tv. All of a sudden a thunderstorm starts. It get’s closer and closer until it sounds as though it’s almost directly overhead.

Bang! There’s a thud, and then all the lights and the power goes off. You’re plunged into darkness.

So you’ve no power, so no lights, no tv…

What do you do now?

I guess for some of us, our laptops and/or tablets or phones will still have charge in them, so we’ll still be able to browse the internet and/or play games on our devices. But imagine the power runs out on your devices while the power is still off, so then what do you do?

I suspect for me, if there nothing I can really do, I would probably go to bed and sleep!

How about you what would you do?

Spirit

“He/she has great spirit” – I’m sure we’ve all heard that said of someone. I’m never quite sure what is meant by that.

However, when it refers to our relationship with God, I do know what it means:

For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. ~ 2 Timothy 1:7

So don’t be afraid of anything or anyone, because God has given us the power of love, and love can overcome anything.

How are your knees? Are they powerful?

I’m sure you’re wondering why I think you may have powerful knees!

Knees are actually one of the most powerful parts of our body, because when we get down on them and pray, there is nothing more powerful!

Don’t pray when you feel like it. Have an appointment with the Lord and keep it. A man is powerful on his knees ~ Corrie Ten Boom

Have you ever felt like you’re at your wit’s end?

Have you ever felt like this… god-help-me

Whenever solutions to problems seem a million miles away, turn to God, and He will help you find solutions.

It’s Still The Cross

It’s not conservative or liberal, However they’re defined;
It’s not about interpretation, Or the judgment of the mind;

It’s the opposite of politics, Power or prestige;
It’s about a simple message, And whether we believe.

It’s still the cross, It’s still the blood of Calvary;
That cleanses sins, And sets the captives free.
It’s still the name, The name of Jesus,
That has power to save the lost; It’s still the cross.

We can water down theology, And preach a word to suit our needs;
We can justify sweet subtle lies, That are wrapped in noble deeds;

We can alter our convictions, To adapt to social whims;
But we cannot change the Gospel, Or the truth contained within.

It’s still the cross, It’s still the blood of Calvary;
That cleanses sins, And sets the captives free.
It’s still the name, The name of Jesus,
That has power to save the lost; It’s still the cross.

Though some may say it’s man’s religion, Or ancient history;
The cross of Jesus still remains, The price for sin that sets us free.

It’s still the cross, It’s still the blood of Calvary;
That cleanses sins, And sets the captives free.
It’s still the name, The name of Jesus,
That has power to save the lost; It’s still the cross.

Only Jesus has the ability to help each of us. Only Jesus has the ability to rescue us when all else fails. All this is only possible because Jesus died on the cross at Calvary just so we can be forgiven of all our sins.

What a wonderful Saviour we have in Jesus. Don’t take God for granted, He may be always there for us, but he expects us to live our lives in the wau he desires. Are you doing that? If not, give your heart to Jesus today.

Thank you God for the cross and all the cross has given us in return.

Thank you Lord for giving us Jesus.
