Are you a good cook?

How are you at cooking up happiness?

Well, here’s a great recipe for happiness

Let go of what’s  gone, be grateful for what remains & look forward to what’s coming

How many times do you try something before you admit you can’t do it, and give up?

Do you give up when others tell you you should, so do you keep going until you know you have nothing more to try or to give?

Well, I just want to remind you today, not to listen to what others tell you, because it’s up to you when to give up. So if you feel you have other things to try or you could do better, keep going, keep trying, and you will achieve your goals.

When the world says, “Give up,” Hope whispers, “Try it one more time”.

Are you looking for simple ways to encourage your heart and nourish your soul?

In the last while I’ve given you some ideas which will hopefully inspire you to implement them in your own life, and over the coming weeks I’ll share some others with you.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Go to bed early

This week’s suggestion is even better than last week’s suggestion to leave your blinds/curtains half-open when you go to bed – Go to bed early enough so that waking up when the sun shines through your window still allows you to have the recommended seven hours of sleep.

If you then maintain this routine of going to bed early and waking up when the sun shines through the window, it’s likely that you can start relying on your biological clock to wake you up rather than relying on an alarm clock.

If you leave your blinds/curtains half open, the natural light that will stream through your window in the morning will send a signal to your brain to slow its production of melatonin and increase its production of adrenaline which is a signal to your brain it’s time to wake up.

Why would you want your brain to wake up before your alarm goes off? Because when it does go off you’ll already be half awake and ready to face the day!

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Get up early and go out for breakfast

Instead of your normal morning routine where you get up, have breakfast, shower, get dressed, why not arrange to meet a friend for breakfast. Yes, you’ll probably have to get up earlier than you usually do to keep the rest of your day on time, but it’ll add an element of fun to your day and I’m sure you’ll wake up feeling excited and happy to roll out of bed, so that has to brighten your day!

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Change your routine

We all have routines which we follow rigidly every time we undertake those tasks. So how able changing your routine, make it a bit different to keep your focus on your task instead of routinely going through the same motions each time.

For example, if when you get up in the morning you always have a shower, then get dresser and then have breakfast, why not have your breakfast first, then shower and get dressed. If like me you hate doing housework but obviously do it because you know you have to, why not liven it up a bit by listening to your favourite music which you do the cleaning or ironing.

These are just a couple of examples of how you could change your routine, but try making changes to any part of your life where you have a routine. Just the very act of making even a small change to your routine will make you think about your actions and potentially help you focus/concentrate on those tasks that little bit more, and hopefully, make them a little bit more enjoyable.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Be cheerful

You may not always feel like being cheerful, but trust me, if you act as if you are happy, you will find it brighten others’ day.

Hibbert said,

You don’t have to feel joyful to act cheerfully

So if you smile often, say positive and uplifting things, resist the urge to complain and find ways to cheer up others, it’ll cheer your day too.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Make a “happy” list

Write a list of things that make you happy – This can be anything from going for a coffee with a friend to walking barefoot in the sand; talking to a close friend to listening to your favourite music; watching sport to reading.

The point is that in making your list it will focus your mind on the things that make your feel good, and that in turn will raise your spirits and brighten your day.

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Treat yourself

Sometimes we just need to give ourselves a treat to life our spirits, so whether it’s buying yourself a piece of clothing you’ve had your eye on, or a new laptop you’ve wanted for ages, or just an afternoon out for coffee – whatever a treat is for you, go on, treat yourself!

So here’s today’s suggestion:

Turn off your TV

Controversial?

I know TV can be a huge part of many people’s lives these days, but I think we can get too caught up in Tv shows – drama, reality shows, sitcoms, soaps – but is it healthy for you or your relationship with your family?

Why now choose a day where no-one in your family turns on your TV one day. i.e. Have a TV free day, so that you and your family can spend some quality time together, talking to one another and more importantly listening to one another.
