empty me and fill me

Break me, melt me, mould me, fill me.

Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me.

We need to be willing to clear out our lives of all our personal baggage and let Him fully into our lives.

God offers freedom to each of us if we follow Him.

God will take away our sins because Jesus died so that we could be forgiven.

So set yourself free, by letting God take away your sins.

Where the Spirit of the Lord is
There is freedom
Where the Spirit of the Lord is
Chains are broken
Eyes are open
Christ is with us
Christ is with us

God_Loves YouFor the last few weeks I’ve found the following chorus has been going through my mind, and I’ve even found myself humming it…

Come, great Spirit, come.
Make each heart they home;
Enter every longing soul;
Come great Spirit, come.

I wasn’t entirely sure why this chorus has been in my mind lately, as it’s never been one that been particular special to me. However I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s been on my mind a lot because I’ve been struggling somewhat with a number of things in the last few weeks, and this is His way of reminding me that whenever I’m struggling, He is there for me, I just need to ask Him to help.

If you haven’t let God into your heart, say to him today, “Come, great spirit come, make my heart thy home“.

I don’t know about you, but over the last couple of weeks, particularly the week leading up to Christmas, the shops were mobbed but everyone seemed happy to speak to the person next to them in the queues, even although they’d never seen that person before, and probably likely to never see them again.

Funny that, because every other week of the year you go shopping, no-one is interested in speaking to you unless it’s to give abuse or complain about something. Isn’t it funny how the spirit of Christmas seems to make everyone nicer to each other.

Wouldn’t it be good if that Christmas spirit of friendliness towards others could remain all year round, not just for the few days of Christmas.

My Mission

God requires us to tell others about His love. He requires us to be His witnesses, His disciples.

I personally find that very daunting as I feel so inadequate, as I am not very confident of speaking publicly about my faith. However, I do know God will give me what I need to get through every situation – He’s given me the medium of this blog to try to spread His message.

I hope and pray you find my blog interesting and challenging. I pray your relationship with God may grow because of something you’ve read here, but most of all I simply pray that God will continue to use me as a witness through all I do.

Acts 1:8 (New International Version)
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth

The Mission by Newsboys

When the runners came from Bethlehem
All breathless with good news
They were passing a baton forward through time
The commission, from God’s lips to our ears
Carried by His saints two thousand years
Connects us all to the same lifeline
As I fix my eyes ahead
I can feel the Spirit’s breath…

(And) I can hear the mission bell ringing out loud and clear
It’s the revolution Jesus started, and it’s here
Echoing across the world from the shores of Galilee
I can hear the mission bell call for you and me
I wanna run with fire
It’s my heart’s desire
Lifting your love higher

In the history of our faith’s arrivals
Great awakenings, Welsh revivals
Saints and martyrs, summoned by a new birth
Patrick’s save of the Irish nation
William Carey’s expectation
Lambs and Lions
Called to the ends of the earth
Gotta put my hand to the plow
Not looking back, not now…

(And) I can hear the mission bell ringing out loud and clear
It’s the revolution Jesus started, and it’s here
Echoing across the world from the shores of Galilee
I can hear the mission bell call for you and me
I wanna run with fire
It’s my heart’s desire
Lifting your love higher

What kind of weekend have you had? Have you been busy or have you just been relaxing and chilling out?

Well I’ve had a busier weekend than I’ve had for a wee while, having been a 3 meeting at the Salvation Army – 1 at Bellshill and 2 at Rutherglen!

For those of you who have not been reading my blog here’s a wee bit background – I attend the Salvation Army at Bellshill, but I was brought up at the corps in Rutherglen and transferred to the corps at Bellshill in 2002.

My cousin and his wife are the Salvation Army ministers (officers) at the corps in Keighley, and this weekend they came “home” with the Keighley Salvation Army Community Band, to lead the services at Rutherglen Salvation Army. As I don’t see my cousins and their family very often, I went along to Rutherglen last night (Saturday) and this afternoon (Sunday).

Although I’ve been back at Rutherglen Salvation Army since I left, it was still strange being back there, particularly as I played in the Rutherglen band! It was just like old times, especially with a number of my family also being there.

There were several times during the two meetings I attended at Rutherglen when I must admit I felt a bit emotional, not just because my cousin was back home and leading the meeting, but because spiritually this was my home too. So much of my Christian learning and experiences happened at Rutherglen, it was where I committed my life to God and publicly declared my love and desire to serve Him all my life.

This weekend, I’ve found myself reflecting on past times, but also the present and the future. I realised for example that without the basis to my Christian faith that I gained while I grew up attending Rutherglen Salvation Army, I would not be the person I am today. While I am happy in my service at Bellshill Salvation Army, I will be forever thankful to those at Rutherglen who taught me all able God and influenced/inspired me to be who I am today. Some of these folk still attend Rutherglen Salvation Army, others are now with God in heaven, others no longer worship at Rutherglen.

1 Peter 2:2
Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation

So today, take a few minutes to think about those people who have had an influenced on your life (for the good of course!). If you are still in contact with them, thank them for the impact they’ve had on your life, after all they may not be aware of it! Say thank you to God too for these people as He is the one who is responsible for it all.

Have you influenced anyone or had an impact on their life?

With God’s help and guidance each one of us is capable of making a difference in someones life.

I pray today God will help you to make a difference in someones life.

What Is Today?

Today is Pentecost, but do you know what Pentecost is all about?

Here is a definition of Pentecost:
Pentecost is the festival when Christians celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is celebrated on the Sunday 50 days after Easter.
Pentecost is regarded as the birthday of the Christian church, and the start of the church’s mission to the world.
The Holy Spirit is the third part of the Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit that is the way Christians understand God.

What does the bible say about Pentecost?

Acts 2:1-4 & 17-21
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues
as the Spirit enabled them.
” In the last days, God says,
I will pour out my Spirit on all people.
Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.
The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

So what should we do this Pentecost?

Here is a beautiful version of the popular chorus “Spirit of the Living God” which invites the Holy Spirit to enter into our lives anew, to rekindle our love for God, and reaffirm His love for us. This is what we should do this Pentecost.

Please listen to the chorus and ask God to renew His presence in your life today.

Well I should have known better…write a blog about the wonderful sunny weather we’re having and what happens…within a day the sun’s gone and it’s wet and dull again! Sorry!

I said in my blog yesterday that when it’s sunny it seems to lift our spirits and make everything seem a bit brighter. Well today I think I’ve seen the opposite apply:

  • Damp and wet this morning when I left for work which after the weather of the last few days, made it less appealing to go out in.
  • I then got stuck in a traffic jam for a while because part of a raod had been shut because of a collapsed man hole.
  • That in turn meant I got to work much later than I was supposed to.
  • The air conditioning in my office is broken and needs a part which won’t be available until Monday, so the office is like a sauna again.
  • Had to go out at lunchtime to get a birthday card for my Dad, forgot my umbrella so got soaked.
  • Had a meeting this afternoon which went on until about 5.45pm, by which time my head was thumping.

So dull and damp outside today. Feeling pretty down today too as it’s been a very long day, I’m exhausted and a lot of things I was involved in to day just didn’t quite go as planned.

Sunny bright days outside seem to make it easier to be positive, so when you’re having a “grey” day, don’t focus on the negative things around you, think of a time when you were happy and try and stay positive. Pray! God doesn’t desert you when you’re having a bad day, He’s there to help you make everyday a sunny day.

Stay positive no matter how your weather looks!

By the way, Tigger’s back to sleeping on our bed again as the window doesn’t seem so appealing today!
