Following on from yesterday’s blog post Music is, here’s some more thoughts about the impact music can have on our lives.

We can listen to the same song or piece of music many times but never really hear the lyrics, until that one time when the lyrics are just the lyrics you need to hear at that moment in time. Here’s what I mean:

So did you stop and think the last time you really paid attention to the lyrics of a song, and what your mood was at the time?

Once again, this proves just how much music and their lyrics can express our deepest feelings even when we can’t find the words to say ourselves.

Heaven’s Grocery Store

I was walking down life’s highway a long time ago.
One day I saw a sign that read “Heaven’s Grocery Store”.
As I got a little closer, the door came open wide.
When I came to myself, I was standing just inside.
I saw a host of angels.  They were standing everywhere.
One handed me a basket and said, “My child, please shop with care”.
Everything a Christian needed was in that Grocery Store.
All you couldn’t carry, you could come back the next day for.
First, I got some PATIENCE; LOVE was in the very same row.
Further down was UNDERSTANDING, you needed it wherever you go.
I got a box or two of WISDOM, a bag or two of FAITH.
I just couldn’t miss the HOLY SPIRIT, for He was all over the place!!
I stopped to get some STRENGTH and COURAGE to help me run this race.
By then my basket was getting full but…I remembered I needed some GRACE!
I didn’t forget SALVATION, for SALVATION was free.
So I tried to get enough of that to save both you and me.
Then I started up to the counter to pay my grocery bill,
for I thought I had everything to do my Master’s will.
As I wind up the aisle I saw PRAYER and I just had to put that in.
For I knew when I stepped outside, I would run right into sin.
PEACE and JOY were plentiful; they were on the last shelf.
SONGS and PRAISES were hanging near, so I just helped myself.
Then I said to the angel, “How much do I owe?”
He just smiled and said, “Just take them everywhere you go.”
Again I smiled at him and said, “How much do I owe?”
He smiled again and said……

The Bible: The Whole

A couple of weeks ago I blogged on a number of occasions about the bible and my thoughts on how we should study it. Well today I’d like to give you a few more of my thoughts on this. I hope you find them helpful.

Not Just a Verse but a Whole Book

When you read a book, you don’t just read one paragraph from it and try to work out the rest of the book based on that one paragraph or chapter. Therefore, just as we read any other book from cover to cover to get the whole story and all the information, so we should do the same with the bible.

Yes there will be verses in it that speak or shout out at you, but that shouldn’t stop you from reading the rest of that chapter or indeed the whole bible.

How can we understand all God has to tell us if we are selective about what we read? Read the whole bible to gain context and meaning to each verse as there’s a message there if only we take the time to understand it.

Focus on God

Don’t ever forgot why you are here. You are here because God placed you here. He placed you here on this earth so you could do His work. We may have our own plans for our life, but the only way we can achieve all we can is by doing God’s will, His plan for our life.

John 5:39 (The Message)

You have your heads in your Bibles constantly because you think you’ll find eternal life there. But you miss the forest for the trees. These Scriptures are all about me! And here I am, standing right before you, and you aren’t willing to receive from me the life you say you want.

You can read the whole bible and understand it all, but if you do not know God, there is no point. In other words, we must have a personal relationship with God to truly know and understand His word, so that we can apply it to our lives.

So, when you read the Bible think about God, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free!

He’s Been Here

God sent His son to earth so that He could experience all that we experience. He went one step further than we will ever have to go though, because He sent His son here to earth to die on a cross, just so we would be forgiven of all our sins.

Don’t think because you’re finding life difficult or your struggling to carry on, that Jesus doesn’t understand how you feel, He does. Jesus understands, He’s been here and He’s had those same feelings you are experiencing now.

So trust Jesus, trust God, because He’s with you all the time.

I Have Been There by Mark Schultz
In a room without a view, a new mother smiles and holds
her tiny fingers on her brand new baby girl.
Her husband takes her by the hand, so unsure about the future
and no money can they make it in this world?

And they pray, Lord all we have to give is love
and they heard a gentle voice like an echo from above,
I have been there. I know what fear is all about.
Yes, I have been there and I’m standing with you now.
I have been there
And I came to build the bridge oh so this road could lead you home.
Oh I have been there.

He’s been a pastor twenty years
but tonight he sits alone and broken hearted in the corner of the church
He tried to change a fallen world
with his words and with his wisdom but it seems like it is only getting worse
And he cries, Oh Lord I just don’t understand
Then he felt the hand of grace, and he heard a voice that said

I have been there, I know what pain is all about
yes I have been there, and I’m standing with you now
I have been there, and I came to build a bridge
oh so this road could lead you home
oh i have been there.

An older man up on a hill
holding flowers but he can’t hold back the tears.
oh he has come to say goodbye.
he thinks about the life she lived,
thinks about how hard it’s been to live without her
sixty years right by his side
and he cries, oh Lord i loved her till the end
and he heard a gentle voice say you’ll see her once again

I have been there
I know what sorrow’s all about
yes i have been there and I’m standing with you now
i have been there, and i came to build a bridge
oh so this road could lead her home, the road could lead her home
oh i have been there, You know I overcame the cross, yes i have been there
so her life would not be lost
oh i have been there, and i came to build
a bridge so this road could lead you home
the road could lead you home

Oh I have been there
Yes I have been there
