When you’re in the middle of difficult times, it can seem like there is no end, that you’re troubles will last forever.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 (The Passion Translation)

We view our slight, short-lived troubles in the light of eternity. We see our difficulties as the substance that produces for us an eternal, weighty glory far beyond all comparison, because we don’t focus our attention on what is seen but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but the unseen realm is eternal.

Always remember that, although it may not feel like it, our troubles are only temporary. It is important we always remember that. It’s even more important though that we remember to continue to trust God during times of difficulty.

Pray to God, give him all your worries, all your fears, focus on Him, and He will look after us forever.

Anxiety and worry are a toxic combination which in turn can make you feel more anxious and then worry more. Worries and concerns are something that God has told us He will take care of for us, so give them all to God, and He will give you peace.

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.  Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:6-8)

We all worry sometimes, we’re only human.

But does worrying actually achieve anything? The only thing achieved by worrying is stress, as worrying never actually changes anything does it?

Even although we know worry doesn’t change anything, we still worry, but we are only human.

Even although we know God is with us every step of the way, it can still be hard not to worry sometimes, but we are only human.

Take all your worries, all your anxieties to God, and leave them there. God can take care of them and you!

Do you believe God is big enough, powerful enough and loving enough to care about everything you do?

He definitely is – He loves each and every one of us, therefore there really is not reason why we should worry about anything. However we are human, so we do worry.

Maybe we just need to remind ourselves that God is there for us, by asking ourselves this:

When we’re asked a question, we can often give elaborate answers which really tell the questioner nothing. So for the following questions I’m looking for single word answers only :

  1. Do you feel you are missing thing in your life?
  2. Are you missing someone in your life?
  3. What do you worry about most?
  4. When did you last do a random act of kindness?
  5. When was the last time you told someone you love them?

Whatever your answers, did you answer honestly or did you give the answers you think you should be giving?

If you didn’t answer honestly, can I suggest you try again, but this time be honest with yourself, because if you are, you might get an insight into the ares of your life you need to change.

Ever stopped and thought, “Why am I letting something so trivial bother or upset me so much?” Well this quote from Corrie Ten Boom, might help point you in the right direction:

Any concern too small to be turned into a prayer is too small to be made into a burden

So if you find you’re not taking your concerns to God, maybe it’s time to reconsider whether they actually are concerns that you should be worrying about!

The last couple of days I’ve talked about times when you feel like you have nothing left to get yourself through a day, or to support someone else. Today though I want to look at this from a slightly different perspective…when you feel like that what do you actually need from those around you?

Here’s some suggestions:

  • Love
  • Compassion
  • A hug
  • Words of comfort
  • Someone to listen to your fears/worries

Do any of those things sound like things you’d appreciate if you are struggling to get through a day?

I can certainly say that for me, each of those things can be a huge help to me, although if I’m honest, sometimes just a hug is all I need.

What about you – when you’re feeling at your lowest and wonder how you’re going to get through the day, what helps you, and gives you the strength to carry on?

Waiting for the rain

Are you a worrier, or do you take everything in your stride?

I came across the following quote in my wandering on the internet recently, and thought it summed up worrying perfectly:

Worrying is like walking around with an umbrella waiting for it to rain

Just as keeping an umbrella up when it’s dry because your waiting for the rain, is pointless, so is worrying about things which may or may not ever happen. Worrying does not change the future, but it does cause us stress, potentially for no reason, and stress will affect our health.

I know it’s easy to say, but please try not to worry about things, as worrying will not affect what lies ahead. but will affect your health and well-being.

Are you someone who dwells in the past, or do you quickly move on from past situations and live for today, looking forward to the future?

Sometimes it can be easy to keep looking back and wishing we’d done this things or not said this or that, but what do we actually achieve by doing this? Not a lot other than probably upsetting ourselves about a past situation which we cannot change.

I recently came across the following quote which really stuck with me:

Regret looks back. Fear looks around. Worry looks in. Faith looks up. Hope looks forward.

How true is this, we can be consumed by regrets, fear and worry if we try and get through life on our own. So never forget God is with you, have faith in Him and believe He will be with you in every day from now to eternity.
