My consecration

Earlier today on Bellshill Salvation Army Band’s Facebook page I shared some devotions. I’d like to share those devotions with you tonight.

It was Covenant Sunday at Bellshill Salvation Army on Sunday, where we considered our relationship with God, and our commitment to serving God. Since then I have found myself thinking a lot about the word ‘consecration’. In doing so, various songs came into my mind. There were however several sentences from one in particular song that kept finding their way back into my thoughts in these last few days.

  • Lord, we look to Thee for aid, Send us forward unafraid.
  • Lord, we make our earnest plea: Strengthen us to follow Thee.
  • Lord, we seek thy Spirit’s pow’r, Sanctify us for this hour.
  • Lord, thy blessing we would ask, Seal us for Thy holy task.

Each of those sentences are quite specific aren’t they? Each seeking God’s guidance, and assistance to help us do whatever He needs us to do. I have realised that these sentences are in fact the prayers I need to pray today for myself. Are these prayers you also need to pray today for you?

Each of those sentences are from a songster piece written by Robert Thomson and William Himes, called ‘Song of Consecration’, which I recall singing/playing the piano for, for Rutherglen Citadel Songsters a number of years ago. Here’s a recording of that song by Portsmouth Citadel Songsters. I hope you are blessed and challenged by the words just as I was.
