Somebody Prayed For Me

When my heart was so broken that I could not pray,
When love wasn’t easy to see.
Someone was there, somebody cared,
Somebody prayed for me.

Somebody went to the throne of heaven,
Somebody lifted my name.
Bringing me into His holy presence,
Saying what I could not say.
Somebody showed me the face of His mercy,
When darkness was all I could see.
Somebody pleaded the Blood of Jesus,
Somebody prayed for me.

When the future looked hopeless and I’d given up,
When I had lost sight of my dreams
Somebody near, dried every tear,
Somebody prayed for me.

Somebody went to the throne of heaven,
Somebody lifted my name.
Bringing me into His holy presence,
Saying what I could not say.
Somebody showed me the face of His mercy,
When darkness was all I could see.
Somebody pleaded the Blood of Jesus,
Somebody prayed for me.

Somebody went to the throne of heaven,
Somebody lifted my name.
Bringing me into His holy presence,
Saying what I could not say.
Somebody showed me the face of His mercy,
When darkness was all I could see.
Somebody pleaded the Blood of Jesus,
Somebody prayed, Somebody prayed,
Somebody prayed, Somebody prayed,
Somebody prayed, Somebody prayed for me,
Somebody Prayed for me.

  1. Isaiah Dela Cruz says:

    Who sang this?

    • Dot says:

Various groups have sung this, however I initially heard this sung by the International Staff Songsters of the Salvation Army and another SA group called Celebr8. If you’re looking for a recording of it, it’s probably been recorded by a lot of other folk by now as it was written a few years ago now.

Someone is praying for me in Birmingham because when I went to a Sunday School there with my cousin who lives near there, they asked us all to put our names in a box and someone would pick it out. It’s weird, because I’m not even religious…

    • Dot says:

I hope you feel God’s presence with you, as after all something made you put your name in the box even though you say you’re not religious…

      • amyishyper says:

I know- that’s the weird thing. I guess I just have some kind of interest in other people’s cultures and religions.

      • Dot says:

Interest is good, as it shows you’re open to what religion has to offer you. I pray you may experience God’s love and guidance in your life, and accept Him as your friend and Saviour.

  4. Jo-Anne Hiscock says:

Please tell me who wrote the words and music to Somebody prayed for me, sung by the Salvation Army Songsters.
I have the words but need the sheet music. Preferably guitar music or easy organ or piano.

    • Dot says:

Not sure who arranged the version used by the ISS but looks like it was written by Robert Sterling and Claire Cloninger and the sheet music is readily available from a number of sheet music websites. Alternatively you should be able to purchase the original Salvation Army arrangement from the SA shop as I know this music was published in the Sing For Joy Songsters music a few years ago.
      Good luck.
