We can sometimes feel as if we’re drowning with all that’s expected of us these days. It can be difficult to keep your head above water at times, but if we believe in hope, and believe in Jesus, we can get through.

Just keep believing in Jesus!

When it seems darkness is surrounding us, don’t despair, because no matter how bad life is, or how low we feel, we can find light in the darkness.

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. ~ John 1:5 (NIV)

Even when there seems to be no hope, be assured that even where there is the smallest light, that light can overcome the darkness – Just as good can overcome evil.

It’s my turn to provide the devotions at our band practice tonight, so I thought I’d share will you what I will be sharing with the band – I have shared some of this in a previous post a few weeks ago.

Children play, they fall and scrape their knees, they cry, they get cleaned up, put a plaster on their cuts, and then they carry on soon forgetting they recently fell and hurt themselves.

If only every problem in life was solved as easily as that when we get older!

They say we get wiser as we get older, but do we really? Why is not as easy to pick ourselves up and carry on when we get older? Older and wiser…or older and more analytical of everything that happens, and, dare I say, less forgiving too?

We may fall many times in life sometimes because of what we’ve done, sometimes because of what others have said or done, and sometimes they just happen as part of life. What do we do when we fall or feel broken?

I often listen to music while I’m working, although it’s normally just a background noise that I don’t pay much attention to, but a couple of weeks ago I found myself stopping and listening to one particular song, as the words caught my attention. Since then, I’ve found myself listening to this song quite often, as it has given me the reminder I needed:

Hear my prayer at night
Let the morning find me alive
For I am tired and weakened by the fall
Let the earth bear witness to my cry

Mercy weep over me
Let Your tears wash me clean
Majesty, be merciful with me
For my eyes have seen Holy

These words reminded me that although I may feel battered and bruised by life as so much of it is far from perfect, God is perfect, He still loves me and forgives me and picks me up when I fall.

Psalm 40:1-2 NIV

I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.

Are you needing a reminder that God still loves you, forgives you and will lift you up when you fall?

I was listening to my ipod the other night on shuffle and that song came on and really caught my attention, so much so I have found myself listening to it several times since then!

Why did it stand it for me? Well as well as the beautiful haunting melody, the words seemed to reach out to me…

My Eyes Have Seen Holy by Bebo Norman

Am I unfit for You
Remember me, the one who turned from You
I come in rags tattered by the fall
And all the earth, a witness to my crime
Mercy, weep over me
Let Your tears wash me clean
Majesty, be merciful with me
For my eyes have seen Holy
Hear my prayer at night
Let the morning find me alive
For I am tired and weakened by the fall
Let all the earth bear witness to my cry
Let the amen sound from heaven as You lift my soul
Let the amen sound from heaven as You lift my soul
Let the angels sound from heaven, holy is the Lord
It really did remind me that no matter how many times I fall in my Christian faith, or how much life has broken me, or how many times I let God down, God will always be there lifting me up again.
My life is far from perfect, I’m far from perfect, my faith is far from perfect, however God is perfect because no matter what, He loves me.
No matter how many times you’ve fallen in life, God can and will lift you up, because He is Holy!

Do you feel like you’re struggling to keep your head above water?

Do you feel like you never get the time to heal because as soon as one thing finishes you’re straight on to dealing with something else?

Do you long to have some time of your own where you can begin to heal all the wounds you’ve suffered?

You can, simply by accepting that the great light of this world is Jesus, and that through accepting Him, you can be made whole again.

I Am a Soldier
Author unknown

I am a soldier in the army of God.
The Lord Jesus Christ is my Commanding Officer.
The Holy Bible is my code of conduct.
Faith, Prayer, and the Word are my weapons of Warfare.
I have been taught by the Holy Spirit, trained by experience, tried by adversity, and tested by fire.

I am a volunteer in this army, and I am enlisted for eternity.

I will either retire in this Army or die in this Army;
but, I will not get out, sell out, be talked out, or pushed out.
I am faithful, reliable, capable, and dependable.
If my God needs me, I am there.

I am a soldier. I am not a baby.
I do not need to be pampered, petted, primed up,
pumped up, picked up, or pepped up.
I am a soldier. No one has to call me, remind me, write me, visit me, entice me, or lure me.

I am a soldier. I am not a wimp.
I am in place, saluting my King, obeying His orders,
praising His name, and building His kingdom!
No one has to send me flowers, gifts, food, cards, candy, or give me hand-outs.
I do not need to be cuddled, cradled, cared for, or catered to.
I am committed. I cannot have my feelings hurt bad enough to turn me around.

I cannot be discouraged enough to turn me aside.
I cannot lose enough to cause me to quit.
When Jesus called me into this Army, I had nothing.
If I end up with nothing, I will still come out even. I will win.
My God will supply all my needs. I am more than a conqueror.
I will always triumph. I can do all things through Christ.
Devils cannot defeat me. People cannot disillusion me.
Weather cannot weary me. Sickness cannot stop me.
Battles cannot beat me. Money cannot buy me.
Governments cannot silence me, and hell cannot handle me!

I am a soldier.
Even death cannot destroy me.
For when my Commander calls me from this battlefield,
He will promote me to a captain.
I am a soldier, in the Army, I’m marching, claiming victory.
I will not give up. I will not turn around. I am a soldier, marching Heaven bound.

There are four kinds of soldiers in God’s army:

  1. Active Duty: Serving the Lord faithfully, daily, and on duty 24-7-365.
  2. Reserve Status: Serving only when called upon, or twice a year: Christmas and Easter.
  3. Guard Status: Backing up the Active Duty group.
  4. AWOL – Absent With Out the Lord.

Which kind of soldier are you?

When at church we act like Christians, but what about when we’re at work, at home, with our friends and family?

If Jesus came to visit you at home unexpectedly some day, would he be shocked, ashamed or upset by what he found or would he be delighted to find you living a Christian life 24/7?

If I’m honest with myself, and you, I know there are times in my life when I do not act as Jesus would expect/want me to – so my report card from jesus would definitely say “could do better”!

How about you? Be honest with yourself when you answer…after all the only person you will be lying to is yourself as God knows how you live your life.

Maybe we all need to try to “do better” in living a Christian life 24/7 – Join me today in trying to be more of a 24/7 Christian.

During the winter months, if there’s one thing I hate more than anything else, it’s getting up in the morning in the darkness, going to work in the darkness, and finishing work and coming home in the dark – It seems to make the daytime seem so short and the working day seems so long. It’s funny how the long day days can make us feel so low and sad while the long daylight hours of the summer always seem to lift our spirits.

It’s just like the true light of the world, Jesus. If we live in a world without His light, our days can seem long and dark with no way out of darkness. While if we live in His light and try to  shine our own light of love for God, we may still face problems and dark times in our live, but the knowledge that we have the love and support of God and other Christians around us, can keep us strong and faithful through the tough times and back into happier days.

Live in the light, the light of God’s love, it is the best way to live your life!

Great Light of the World by Bebo Norman

Sometimes at night
I am afraid
I cover my eyes,
Cover my shame
So here in the dark
Broken apart
Come with your light
And fill up my heart

Oh great light of the world
Fill up my soul
I’m half a man here
So come make me whole
Oh great light of the world
Come to impart
The light of your grace
To fill up my heart

The wind of this world
Can push us around
Folding us up
Backing us down
But here in the dark
I’m not alone
So come with your strength
And carry me home

Oh great light of the world
Fill up my soul
I’m half a man here
So come make me whole
Oh great light of the world
Come to impart
The light of your grace

Oh great light of the world
Fill up my soul
I’m half a man here
So come make me whole
Oh great light of the world
Come to impart
The light of your grace
To fill up my heart

The light of your grace
To fill up my heart
