Yesterday I spoke about the postcards we used to send our family and friends when we went on holiday, and how many times they would tell them “wish you were here”.

There are of course other times when we say “wish you were here”, and sadly at those times, that wish will never come true. When someone we love dies, it is of course a very emotional and difficult time, and so we may find ourselves saying we wish they were still here with us.

While we may wish those we love and care about will be with us forever, in reality it isn’t going to happen, because the only certain thing about life is that we will all die at some point. I don’t mean to make this a really morbid post, so I simply want to remind you that even through the hurt and heartache of losing someone we love, we must hold onto the precious moments we have spent with them. It won’t take away our heartache, but it will help you remember them just the way you loved them.

So yes, we wish our loved ones were still here with us, but if we keep focused on our memories, when we close our eyes, they will almost be here with us again.

If someone is strong enough to bring you down, show them you are strong enough to get up. — Unknown

Sometimes when someone hurts you and brings you down in front of others, it can be crushing. You just want to give up or hide away. But isn’t that just letting these people win?

It’s time to take control. Don’t let other people’s opinions and thoughts about you discourage you…that’s the devil working through them. Be strong, keep going, as God is directing you in the way He wants you to go, and will get you through whatever anyone else will say or do to you.

Be strong!

When we’re faced with lots of choice, it can be difficult to make a decision sometimes. However imagine you’ve been facing difficult situation after difficult situation, and you’ve just had to keep going, no matter how you feel…Have you ever considered that maybe you didn’t have a choice?

You simply had to be strong because it was your only option!

So don’t put yourself down when you’re facing difficult times, because I’m sure if you stop and truly look at yourself, you’ll see just how strong you’ve had to be to get this far!

Be kind to yourself because you are stronger than you think you are!

This time of year can be difficult for so many, as it reminds them of family and friends who are no longer here. For some it will mean they are on their own for the first time this Christmas, and that can be particularly difficult.

While listening to music in my car the other day, the following song by Delta Goodrem came on, and it really touched me.

If you’re missing someone this Christmas, I pray you will find some joy in your memories of past Christmas, but also make the best of this Christmas as your loved ones would want you to try to have a happy time.

Wishing you were here by Delta Goodrem

I’ve been knock, knock, knocking at the thought of your door
But you’re not, not, not here anymore
I ring, ring, ring you’re every phone in my head
But I can’t get through, the connection is dead

I want, want to tell you about the news today
But you wouldn’t believe me, you’d laugh it away
There’s a ghost standing at the foot of my bed
And it’s you, it’s you, it’s you

It was you they told me who was in trouble
I couldn’t breathe on the other side of the world
And there was nothing I could do to help you
And it’s true today would be your birthday
It would’ve been your 27th year
And I miss you in the earth’s atmosphere
I wish you were here

I go back, back, back in every memory of there
But the clock ticks over every minute we shared
On my knees begging for it not to be true
But it was you, it was you, it was you

It was you they told me who was in trouble
I couldn’t breathe on the other side of the world
And there was nothing I could do to help you
And it’s true today would be your birthday
It would’ve been your 27th year
And I miss you in the earth’s atmosphere
I wish you were here

Instead of just in my dreams and in my imagination
Confusing me completely from another dimension
Can you see the beauty from a new beginning somewhere
Cause I feel like I won’t repair with time

It was you, it was you, it was you

It was you they told me who was in trouble
I couldn’t breathe on the other side of the world
And there was nothing I could do to help you
And it’s true today would be your birthday
It would’ve been your 27th year
And I miss you in the earth’s atmosphere
I wish you were here

I wish you were here

everything your stressing about

I recently saw this picture posted on Facebook, and while initially I thought, yes, that’s so true, I realised I could think of some situations in my life where one year on I was still stressing about the same things.

Yes, we shouldn’t dwell on the past, but equally some situations/circumstances can last for a while, so we can’t just forget about them because they have impacted our lives. It’s the things in life which impact us which make us the people we are today, so if you are still stressing about the same things today as you were this time last year, that’s ok, they are obviously important to you.

My rock

Do you have someone you consider to be your “rock”?

We have people in our lives we consider to be friends, but have you ever wondered if they will actually be there for you when you really need a “rock”?

It’s when you really need someone, that you find out who your true friends, or “rocks”, actually are, isn’t it.

I love the following Delta Goodram as it reminds us that “when your luck’s run out you find out who really counts“.

You Are My Rock by Delta Goodram

No one can buy true love in their life
We all need someone on standby
The night drew long you kept me strong
Now I can thank you in this song

You are my rock, you touch my soul
You brought me light, when all hope was gone
You showed me the secrets that I could unlock
You are my brother, you are my rock

I’ve seen people come and go
Young and old from all walks of life
They all leave a bookmark in the story that I write
Only when your luck’s run out
You find out who really counts

You are my rock, you touch my soul
You brought me light when I couldn’t go on
You showed me the secrets that I could unlock
You are my brother, you are my rock

So who is your “rock”? My “rock” is God!

Last night I was doing some work in the house and had some random music playing in the background, when I was aware of a particular song playing, as it stopped me in my tracks! Why? Because it summed up just how I’m feeling…

Be Strong by Delta Goodrem

Are you swimming upstream in oceans of blue?
Do you feel like you’re sinking?
Are you sick of the rain after all you’ve been through?
Well, I know what you’re thinking

When you can’t take it
You can make it
Sometime soon I know you’ll see

‘Cause when you’re in your darkest hour
And all of the light just fades away
And when you’re like a single flower
Whose colours have turned to shades of grey
Well, hang on and be, be strong

We’re taking each step one day at a time
You can’t lose your spirit
Let live and let live, forget and forgive
And it’s all how you see it

And just remember, keep it together
Don’t you know you’re never alone?

‘Cause when you’re in your darkest hour
And all of the light just fades away
When you’re like a single flower
Whose colours have turned to shades of grey
Well, hang on, oh, be strong

No, you’re not defeated, oh
And soon you’ll be smiling once again
Then you won’t have to feel it, let it go with the wind
Time passes us by
And know that you’re allowed to cry

‘Cause when you’re in your darkest hour
And all of the light just fades away
When you’re like a single flower
Whose colours have turned to shades of grey
Well, hang on, oh, and be strong

Oh oh, hang on, hang on
Hang on, be strong
Hold on and be strong

Having said this is how I’m feeling, I can say that while now may feel like my darkest hour, I am confident this is temporary because I know God is with me, will keep me strong, and will get me through these difficult days.

Whatever you’re facing, be strong, because God is with you!

My favourite line from this song is definitely:

Don’t you know you’re never alone?

I read somewhere a few days ago that watching or listening to one hour of news each day adds up to us taking in 15 full days of negative information in a year.

Wow – 15 days of your life lost every year to negative information, just by listening/watching one hour of news each day.

So that’s accounted for one hour of each of your day, but what about the rest of your day, how much negative information do you take in during the rest of your day?

What are you allowing to influence you?

It can be difficult at times to ensure that we only allow positive people to surround us and influence us. Sometimes it can be members of our family, neighbours or work mates who bring us down.

So what can we do to stop the negative people influencing us?

Unfortunately I don’t have a magic answer to this question. All I can say is that we must try and not let the negativity from these folk get into our hearts. In other words we must try to stay positive no matter what others say or do.

I know it’s not easy to do that all the time, but with God‘s help we can stay strong and stay positive no matter what those around us are saying or doing.

Be Strong by Delta Goodrem is a favourite song of mine. It’s not a described as a Christian song, however if you listen to the words you’ll find that it could be God that’s spoken the words…

Are you swimming up stream
in oceans of blue
Do you feel like your sinking?
Are you sick of the rain after all you’ve been through?
Well I know what you’re thinking
When you can’t take it
You can make it
Sometime soon I know you’ll see

’cause when you’re in your darkest hour
And all of the light just fades away
and When you’re like a single flower whose colours have turned to shades of gray
Well hang on and be strong

We’re taking each step one day at a time
You can’t loose your spirit
Let live and let live forget and forgive
It’s all how you see it
And just remember keep it together
Don’t you know you’re never alone

’cause when you’re in your darkest hour
And all of the light just fades away
When you’re like a single flower whose colours have turned to shades of gray
Well hang on (whoa) and be strong

No you’re not defeated
And soon you’ll be smiling once again
Then you won’t have to feel it
Let it go with the wind
Time passes us by
And know that you’re allowed to cry

’cause when you’re in your darkest hour
And all of the light just fades away
When you’re like a single flower whose colours have turned to shades of gray
Well hang on (whoa) and be strong
(hang on hang on) Be strong
Hold on and be strong

Psalm 145:18
The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

Hold onto your faith, and stay strong, as God is with you at all times.

Call on Jesus, He will be near you, so stay strong.
