What is a phobia?
Here’s the dictionary definition:
- A persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous.
- A strong fear, dislike, or aversion.
So, does this definition sound like you in any way?

What phobia’s do you have?
Me? My phobias are ones which I’m sure I share with many of you….in order of my biggest phobias first, here are mine:
- Spiders (no matter how big or small!)
- Jenny long legs/Daddy long legs (not sure what the difference is!)
- Moths
- Lizards
- All other creepy-crawlies
I have absolutely no idea what started any of these phobias, however I do know that despite my best attempts to convince myself that all these animals, are ones which can’t hurt me (I know some spiders can but I’m unlikely to meet many of them in my everyday life), and are probably more scared of me then I am of them….but it just hasn’t worked, I’m just as scared of them all today as I every was!
My worst nightmare with these things, particularly spiders, is that I see one close to me, look away for a second, look back and it’s nowhere to be seen anymore. Where is it?! Is it on me?! Argh!
What are you worst nightmares involving your phobias?
What have you done to try to overcome them?
P.S. Even pictures of spiders send a cold-shiver down my spine 😦
