Dangerous Fun

What’s the most dangerous thing you’ve ever done for fun?

I’m sure many of you will have more extreme and dangerous things than me, but the most dangerous thing I’ve ever done for fun is abseiling!

I was on holiday one year, probably when I was about 18 or 19, when I had the opportunity to try out some sports I’d never tried before – One of those that I got the opportunity to try out at this time was abseilling.

It was one of those things that I thought that would be great to try, but wasn’t quite convinced I would be able to do. It’s not that I’d say I’m afraid of height because that’s not the case. However the worse part of the abseiling, as I suspected, was taking that first step over the edge!

The first time I abseiled, it was off the roof of a 2 storey building…this was meant to ease us in gently! As I have already said though, the toughest part for me, and for the others who were trying abseiling for the first time, was going over the edge of the building. There were a few in the group who decided that they couldn’t do the abseiling, however I’m pleased to say I conquered my nerves and “went over the edge”…and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So much so I took the opportunity to abseil down some taller buildings as well during that same holiday.

Why did I enjoy abseiling? To be honest I’m not quite sure – maybe it was the incredible views, maybe it was freedom I felt when I was abseiling down the building, I don’t know. All I know is I really enjoyed it and would recommend you try it out yourself if you get the opportunity.
