When you see someone in need what do you do?
Do you walk past pretending you didn’t see them, or do you stop and try to help?
Deuteronomy 15:10-11 (The Message)
Give freely and spontaneously. Don’t have a stingy heart. The way you handle matters like this triggers God, your God’s, blessing in everything you do, all your work and ventures. There are always going to be poor and needy people among you. So I command you: Always be generous, open purse and hands, give to your neighbours in trouble, your poor and hurting neighbours.
If you see someone in need, take a few minutes out to go to them, speak to them, comfort them, give them nourishment, and pray for them. God expects us to show compassion for our fellow humans. That doesn’t mean just in monetary terms, because there are many needy people out there for whom money is not the thing they are most in need of.
I personally think that one of the main thing the people in this world are crying out for is love and compassion. Therefore let’s spread some compassion wherever we go, and let’s make a point of stopping to help those we see in need, rather than walking past.
