This week at work I was on a recruitment training course and as part of that course we had to consider whether we would offer a post to an individual if specific circumstances existed. One of the examples was someone who had a spent conviction for fraud – I have to say I was the only one in the group who said that if the person was the best candidate for the job, I would offer them the post as their conviction was spent, so they had served their time and their past should no longer be held against them.
The following illustrates this:
Don’t judge a person by their past. They don’t necessarily live there anymore.
In thinking about this, it got me thinking about God and how no matter what we may have done in our past, God can and will forgive us and welcome into His family with open arms. God doesn’t care about our past, He simply cares about our present and our future, so why should we think we know better than God and hold someone’s past against them.? After all, what someone has done in their past is not necessarily what they would do now or in the future.
Let’s give everyone a second, and third and a fourth chance, because if God is willing to do so, so should we!
