There is a mighty lot of difference between saying prayers and praying. ~ John G. Lake
It’s true, there is a huge difference between going through the motions of praying, by just saying words you’ve said many times before, or heard other say, and truly opening up your heart to God and talking to Him about your deepest needs and thanking Him for all He has done for you.
Do you regularly just go through the motions of prayer, or do you earnestly speak to God from the bottom of your heart?
Prayers which are not sincere are as worthless as not saying a prayer at all, so don’t let your prayer life become a chore or a time or reciting often said prayers, make sure they are always times when you talk to talk from your heart, about all that’s on your mind.
I Often Say My Prayers by John Burton
I often say my prayers
But do I ever pray?
And do the wishes of my heart
Go with the words I say?
I may as well kneel down
And worship gods of stone
As offer to the living God
A prayer of words alone.
For words without the heart
The Lord will never hear,
Nor will He to those lips attend
Whose prayers are not sincere.
Lord teach me what I need,
And teach me how to pray;
Nor let me ask Thy grace,
Not feeling what I say.
Thank you for these few words. I thought they aptly enhanced my own blog for the day.
