Panic Time

I don’t know about you, but whenever the phone goes in the middle of the night, you always think the worst don’t you?

ringing_phoneI guess it’s only human nature, that when we are awaken abruptly from a sleep by a ringing phone, we assume someone has some urgent news for us that couldn’t wait until the morning.

Just last week about 3.30am we were awoken by a mobile phone ringing. After waking up enough to realise it was my mobile that was ringing in the other room, I rushed through to answer it, only to find it stopped just before I reached it! When I looked in the phone log it wasn’t a number I knew that had phoned me but that didn’t stop me thinking that it could still be someone legitimately trying to contact me in the middle of the night…

A couple of minutes later, my phone rang again from the same number, and so I answered it…guess what, it was a wrong number!

Who I thought it might be calling from an unknown number I’m not sure, but what a relief when I realised it wasn’t actually me they were trying to get in touch with! My relief turned to annoyance as I quickly realised that the caller on realising they had called the wrong number, simply said “Oh!” and then hung up on me, not even an apology. If that had been me at any time of the day, I’d have apologised for calling someone by mistake at any time of the day, never mind calling someone in error at 3.30 in the morning!
