Today, we remembered the fallen on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month by taking part in a 2 minute silence to remember those who have fought and died for their country. This year the remembrance celebration have been more widely publicised in the UK as this year is the 100 year anniversary of the start of the 1st world war.

The men, women and children who have died in the various wars in which  the UK has participated, sacrificed their all, so that we may have continued freedom to live our lives in this country. We should never forget what they gave for us, and we will never forget their sacrifice.

In the last few days while thinking about the sacrifice given by so many during war, I couldn’t help but think of Jesus, as just like those who have died fighting for their country, He too gave the ultimate sacrifice anyone could give, by giving His life. The difference with Jesus is that not only did He die so we could be free, but He died that we could be forgiven of our sins.

I vow today not only to never forget those who have died in conflicts around the world, but also to serve Christ always as way of repaying God for sacrificing His only son, just so I could be forgiven.
