Are you the same person in public as you are in private?

You may think that is a strange question, but let me explain – Many people struggle with life, depression, life events, relationships, health issues etc, but will never tell their friends and family just how difficult they are finding life. They will “put on” a public face when their with friends and family so that none of them suspect anything is wrong, but when they’re in the privacy of their own home, they fall apart, they are an emotional wreck, struggling to see the positives in life and maybe even struggling to know how they can face tomorrow.

The words of the first verse of the song The Warrior Is A Child by Twila Paris, reiterate my thoughts on people lives different public and private lives, and go running home from “public appearances” because they are falling apart inside:

Lately, I’ve been winning battles left and right
But even winners can get wounded in the fight
People say that I’m amazing strong beyond my years
But they don’t see inside of me, I’m hiding all the tears

It’s reassuring to know though, that even when we are falling apart inside and no-one can see that, God sees, knows and understands why we feel the way we do, and He is there to help us if we just reach out to Him.

The Warrior Is A Child by Twila Paris

Lately, I’ve been winning battles left and right
But even winners can get wounded in the fight
People say that I’m amazing strong beyond my years
But they don’t see inside of me, I’m hiding all the tears

They don’t know that I go running home when I fall down
They don’t know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
‘Cause deep inside this armour the warrior is a child

Unafraid because His armour is the best
But even soldiers need a quiet place to rest
People say that I’m amazing never face retreat
But they don’t see the enemies that lay me at His feet

They don’t know that I go running home when I fall down
They don’t know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and cry for just a while
‘Cause deep inside this armour the warrior is a child

They don’t know that I go running home when I fall down
They don’t know who picks me up when no one is around
I drop my sword and look up for a smile
‘Cause deep inside this armour, deep inside this armour
Deep inside this armour the warrior is a child
