Is there a particular seat or chair in your house that is your go-to seat, your comfy seat?
How about shoes, do you have a favourite pair of comfy shoes that you always wear when you know you’ve got to do a bit of walking?
Comfortable is something we all like to be isn’t it – Whether that is a particular chair, or pair of shoes, having enough money to live by, or even in our friendships. But what about your relationship with God, is “comfortable” a word you’d use to describe that?
I was reminded recently of a quote I found a few years ago by Francis Chan:
But God doesn’t call us to be comfortable. He calls us to trust Him so completely that we are unafraid to put ourselves in situations where we will be in trouble if He doesn’t come through.
Just because we are Christians doesn’t mean we will live comfortable lives, and this is confirmed Matthew 5:3-5 (NIV), as we read:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Our life may not always be comfortable, even though we’d love it to be, but be assured that God will always comfort and strengthen you.
