Charter for life

I didn’t know what an olympic charter was, but found the following extract from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practicing sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.

Aren’t they great words? But are they really words believed and lived by everyone these days?

Sadly, when it comes to ‘without discrimination’ and with ‘fair play’, these definitely seem to be qualities that can often be missing in sport, and indeed in life in general.

Imagine a world where all the qualities listed in this charter were lived out in everyone’s lives, wouldn’t this world be a much happier and safer place?

Sport can be a catalyst to start friendships and understanding between people who otherwise may be intolerant to one another. So let’s live out this olympic charter in our lives, not just in sport, but in our everyday life.
