Did you know today is the start Holy Week?
Holy week is the week leading up to Easter. It starts the Sunday before Easter, called Palm Sunday. It is the week when Christians remember the last week of Jesus’ life.
Palm Sunday is the day we remember Christ assuming into Jerusalem.
In John 12:12-13 (NLT) we read:
The next day, the news that Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem swept through the city. A large crowd of Passover visitors took palm branches and went down the road to meet him. They shouted, “Praise God! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hail to the King of Israel!”
While this sounds like everyone was a huge supporter of Jesus, the sad thing was that later in that same week many of the same people who were in the crowd who welcomes Christ into Jerusalem, were the same ones who shouted that Jesus should be executed.
That’s why today in many churches we will have been asked to think about the strength of our own faith. We may have been asked to remember times when we have been unfaithful to Christ, or have been hypocritical by claiming we follow Christ.
So today is a day to be honest. As we celebrate the arrival of Christ in Jerusalem, let us promise to be honest with ourselves and with Christ, by being faithful to Him from now on.
